Michael Jordan has no case to be the number 1 NBA player of all time. He has no case to be the number 1 NBA shooting guard of all time. Worthy is one of my favorites to watch. He was fast, strong and skilled. In his retirement, he is an interesting interview, with just the right amount of swag, and humility, at the same time. He seems very genuine.
I used to copy Worthy's moves especially his post and face up moves until my coach told me to just stop it because I was a shooting guard and was too short for those kinda moves. That's how much I idolized this man.
Some of my fondest first memories of the NBA were the Magic-Worthy Showtime tandem. They were art in motion, Magic being Magic and James smooth as silk and reliable as a well-oiled machine.
Worthy is in my top 5 hands down as a Forward, even ahead of one of my favorites, Chuck. As my Pops used to say when they would feed him the rock in the post: "Call the Priest!". Couldn't be stopped...Period.
Hi Vinny. The Lakers were a bit spoiled in those days I'd say. Worthy was awesome. Hailed in his day and rightly so, Worthy was so smooth and deadly. Fit the Lakers perfectly. And a gentleman.

@@peteholloway5473 Hi Pete. This the problem right? Fairly easy to get started, but where does it end? I have no problem with anyone you mentioned, but no Doctor J? Aarrggghhh!
Kareem was going to get his, pretty much. Magic was going to do his thing. Scott and Cooper were going to hit a few threes. If Worthy was having one of his games, it was going to be a long night for the Celtics.
I still can see in my mind the Worthy quick step glide along the baseline and flying dunk. Some things are just perfect and deserve 10s. that was Worthy taking it to the hoop. The original "glide".
Cedric Maxwell (University North Carolina - Charlotte 1973-1977) final four in 1977 James Worthy (North Carolina 1979-1982) national champs in 1982 Kurt Rambis (Santa Clara 1976-1980)
In this era of basketball, you had to be ready to put that work in. Doing your business in the paint was brutal. When I think about tough power forwards I think about the '80s and the 90s.
Remember Worthy at UNC as a freshman......solid player, but had a plate on his leg from a bone fracture. Came out his sophomore season, plate had been removed over the summer.....and WOW !! When you watched him now, it seemed like he had never jumped at all during his freshman year .With his back to the basket on the baseline , his 180 turnaround dunk had to be seen to be believed. LOVED when he led a fast break direct to the basket, then turned parallel to backboard on his last step and SWOOPED over the defender until he was eye level and sideways to the rim, and did a one-handed dunk in passing with arm fully extended. IF only Worthy had stayed one more year at UNC to play as a senior with Sam Perkins as junior and MJ as a sophomore.......!!!!!!
@@NBAHistoryCLNS There's a big difference between a "great player", and "one of the greatest to ever play the game". He was most certainly NOT in the latter category. Period.
Yeah as a fan since 1961 I must say that worthy was one of my favorite players.. I still feel wilt is the goat..but worthy had such quickness in the paint and still ran the floor as good as anyone could.. I can imagine him being knocked around by Kurt and seeing the duct tape. ha.. nice interview..
He wasn't disrespecting Wilkins career. Worthy was just saying he is grateful that the Lakers chose him in the draft with a team that had won an Nba title.
Worthy was a great player, usually unjustly overlooked in the discussion about great forwards, maybe being the only one on that Laker team that I didn't really like. In his first few years, before he had an injury, he made Bird look sick, simply by being too quick for Bird to bother him. Worthy also was in the news a few times for being busted driving with marijuana and prostitutes, only making him cooler, proving himself to be normal. Who is the guy interviewing him?
Worthy was caught up in a sting in Houston in 1990, in which whores working as police working as prostitutes were snaring men who were calling the escort service…the bit about marijuana and multiple arrests is not true

Always liked his game. When he had the ball and made his move, you almost always said, there's 2 points! Unstoppable!

Great story! The “welcome to the NBA” moment can come from anywhere, even for a HOFer.
Mr. Worthy was a tremendous player on those Laker teams without him the championships would have been less than 5 in the 80s.
Kareem was going to get his, pretty much. Magic was going to do his thing. Scott and Cooper were going to hit a few threes. If Worthy was having one of his games, it was going to be a long night for the Celtics.

i look forward to hearing Worthy talk about basketball every time
Worthy exploded to the hoop. And, he was VERY quick!
Kurt Rambis's taped-up glasses should be in the Hall of Fame.
Michael Cooper deserves better recognition than Rambis.
@@Trancymind Larry Bird said Michael Cooper was relentless and played the best defense on him.

Met him at a New Balance signing many years ago. Nice man!

James Worthy was one of the first power forwards to run the floor and fast break in college.
Him and Jordan made North Carolina dominant back then.
All that AND he made a great Klingon in TNG!
Cornbread Maxwell and Big Game James!!!
Can't always tell a book by it's cover.
Great interview. Your boy Bob McAdoo

He got hit in the head a couple times by Magic's no-look passes, then he woke up.
Great story! I love Cedric Maxwell’s podcast.
❤️☘️
Worthy was an awesome player. And to my knowledge never punched a fan...and probably wouldn't have gotten away with it if he had.
I remember James playing a Klingon in a Star Trek episode. What a imposing dude.
Kurt "Clark Kent" Rambis!!🏀
Keep up that church attendance BRUH 💯
My all time favorite,Big Game James!
How did the Lakers have the #1 pick?!
‘...smell like Ben gay...”. - that got me!
Yeh, Baby! Old School! Get hit? Hit back: Earn your respect or lose it. Now? The biggest star in the game today scowls, cries and pouts on every call.
Great video, appreciate the Laker love and insight.

Worth played big in big games...
Worthy was NO JOKE back in the day!
Plain simple fact - Stopping Worthy was the key to beating those Lakers!!
Dean Smith developed soooo many great players.
Now Rambo is his boss.
My fav Worthy story is him getting caught in a room with three females.🤭💪🏾👍🏾
Did it happen in 1990?
Big Game James
Should’ve ask him,how are the LA ho’s
What a stereotype on Rambis
There is one "Big Game James," period! I sometimes hear others tagged with that nickname … STOP IT!
Worthy was second coming of Elgin Baylor
Ramboooooo Rambis
Wow I guess he not a fan of Dominique

Who is the guy interviewing him?
Lots of film of Bird making Worthy look useless as well.
Is it Cedric Maxwell?
Interviewer is Cedric “Cornbread” Maxwell - former Celtic - was there already when L. Bird showed up.
Worthy andd Parish were a bot overlooked on those great Boston/Lakers playoff competitors, understandable give bird, magic, Kareem and McHale playing…
Worthy was caught up in a sting in Houston in 1990, in which whores working as police working as prostitutes were snaring men who were calling the escort service…the bit about marijuana and multiple arrests is not true
So, who beat the heck out of him? Rambis? Terrible interview.
