I'm new to dying and need more info: How long do you soak in the acid bath? How much acid did you put in how much water? Did you use your kitchen oven to bake for 30 min? If I want to turn my yarn to speckle the other side, when do I do that?
For wool yarn just a few hours soak is all you need. For silk and silk blends, overnight soak at a minimum because silk is hydrophobic. Hope this helps.
Plz don't use any pan other than STAINLESS. the acetic acid is strong enough to corrode whatever finish is on the pan (pH of ~3, as is vinegar) over time or immediately and you don't (or you do!) want the acid to react with the finish or metal of the pan (for example, aluminum..although you might get some interesting colors with the Al). Usually, since stainless is so nonreactive to most solutions, stainless is the desired container material. And you need a mask! That powder is very fine!!!
I’m just learning the process of acid dying my home spun wool. I noticed you didn’t wear a respirator mask? Is it necessary? (I haven’t bought one yet) Thanks
Please use proper safety equipment and only use stainless steel dyeing vessels! Good speckle technique but I’d love to encourage Knit Picks to set the example for proper dyeing.

Oh and I just use a couple tablespoons of citric acid powder in a 1 gallon bucket of water for the soak.
