This is exactly the type of colouring i want to do. Its absolutely stunning. May i ask what is your heat source? I am stumped how to simmer my yarn. Also why can this not be done in the kitchen? Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful art.
At the time of this video, I was using hot plates as a heat source (linked in description). This *can* be done in a kitchen, but the dyes needed to do this are toxic and not food-safe. I chose to move out of my kitchen so I didn't need to worry about cross-contamination.
Thank you for a great video. Your yarn is beautiful and I love the swatch! I noticed you used both fiber reactive dyes and acid dyes. Is there an advantage to using the 2 types or is it just one of those things where you have some colors in acid dye and other in fiber reactive? Thanks again!
I use them both, depending on the colors I’m after. I don’t notice a difference between the two. Since I’m dyeing animal fibers, they both work the same way.
This colorway is GORGEOUS!!!!
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I’ll be watching this again.

What are the plastic tie wrap type clips called that you use when dyeing? Great tutorial thanks :)
They are reusable zip ties.
