As an interior designer I vote put the bed where you wanted it, having it visible from the door is subconsciously going to make you feel unsafe and uneasy in that space, it's always better to put it in a way that isn't directly viewable from the door.
Also, on another note, the way your husband wants the bed oriented would make the most sense for the usability of the room. It would give easier access to the closet storage since you could go right to it from the doorway. If the bed is on the wall you want, then you would have to go around your bed to get to the closets and would have to leave more room on the side for bending and getting into the closets.
8:23 personally i like Kurt's idea to have the bed closer to the window! it sounds nice to wake up, turn your head to the side, and see those wonderful views before you :) and it makes the room seem more cozy overall edit: yay the bedroom setup looks so nice!!

I remember your small basement apartment. I’m so excited for you. 😊 If you face the bed toward the windows, you won’t be able to see it from the kitchen/living area. If you can’t see it, it’s not a big deal if it’s not made and someone shows up for a visit.

The last time we moved, it was part of my husband's corporate relocation package that they paid for movers to come to our home and pack for us. It was amazing but so expensive! I can't imagine paying for that level of service ourselves, but as long as the company pays, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Movers can pack for you in the U.S. too. We’ve always had movers pack for us. Once for a cross country move, and after kids, for every move thereafter. It costs more for them to pack because they charge you for all the boxes, but it was a service we needed. We’ve moved a lot. They come to your house to get an estimate of your stuff and take inventory so they can calculate how many boxes and what type of boxes to bring. They leave you with a stack of boxes that are piled high and we have to give away boxes slowly as we unpack. A different experience for sure! Congrats on your move! Your new place reminds me of when we first moved to NYC around your age.

You should use the extra space in the living room for a small dining table that could also be used as a desk space. You could have a bookshelf on the wall, then a small table out from that for more book storage too. For the kitchen, I would raise the small table thing by putting it on some kind of platform, so that it is flush with the countertop. Then you would have a really long counter for prepping or serving. Just some ideas! It is a lovely apartment!

honestly, for the kitchen table I would place two long wooden blocks under the legs and raise it to be counter-level and make it part of the kitchen. and then maybe buy two high chairs. of course, it depends on what you prefer to prioritize - if kitchen space or dinning space.

cari, regarding the bed situation. you can check chinese feng shui, I believe the bed should be south or east facing as it helps to give one a good sleep. I think it is because of magnetic thingie like in compass. you can also check that out. also, we also have a belief here in the philippines that you should never, ever, sleep with your feet pointing directly at the door. as a child, my parents told me that if I did, I might sleep walk directly outside the house and get lost and won't be able to return home. love your moving vlogs. I actually put my own bed in front of the door because I like being able to easily look outside to see what my family is doing. You should just try both orientations to see which is most comfortable for you.😊
The layout is so intelligently designed. Love the wide space towards the bedroom and the folding doors! 😻 I'd suggest a full body mirror, Ikea has a solid one. Also maybe to consider if you want the light behind you in that case or aside you somewhere else. Anyhow a really great apartment!

I recently moved halfway across the US (from the East Coast to Midwest), and it was my first experience with professional movers. They also have tiers here where they can also pack for you (mine helped finish what I hadn’t done yet), but they definitely weren’t careful in the way I would be. Fortunately I only had one casualty - which is pretty good for a 1000 mile move.
Movers in US operate the same, you can pay for them to pack and unpack, setup furniture, and properly pack valuables and breakables. Your apartment is very nice!

Bed placement - I agree with you. Cutting the path to the window from the door decreases leg-room and visual-space, as if reducing the space. Keeping the entire line from the window to the wall in the livingroom will make the place feel larger than cutting those lines.

There are some companies that use those plastic bins like she shows in this video. The company comes back to pick them up after you've unpacked.

I actually put my own bed in front of the door because I like being able to easily look outside to see what my family is doing. You should just try both orientations to see which is most comfortable for you.😊
The layout is so intelligently designed. Love the wide space towards the bedroom and the folding doors! 😻 I'd suggest a full body mirror, Ikea has a solid one. Also maybe to consider if you want the light behind you in that case or aside you somewhere else. Anyhow a really great apartment!

I'd love to see what you do with all your books. For me personally I struggle with finding a home for them in my small house (I live in a small rowhome in the U.S.). I eventually settled on turning our sunroom into a half library / half office.

I recently moved halfway across the US (from the East Coast to Midwest), and it was my first experience with professional movers. They also have tiers here where they can also pack for you (mine helped finish what I hadn’t done yet), but they definitely weren’t careful in the way I would be. Fortunately I only had one casualty - which is pretty good for a 1000 mile move.
Movers in US operate the same, you can pay for them to pack and unpack, setup furniture, and properly pack valuables and breakables. Your apartment is very nice!

Cari, it’s so weird that I followed u since pre pandemic, I’ve always loved ur old house and inspired me for my future home even tho the problem is I live in the uk lol. Bed placement - I agree with you. Cutting the path to the window from the door decreases leg-room and visual-space, as if reducing the space. Keeping the entire line from the window to the wall in the livingroom will make the place feel larger than cutting those lines.
