Wondering how it was so easy for you to form the beads around diamonds. It seems while watching your vedio that the white gold was as soft as lead when you formed the beads around the diamonds with out even splitting the metal to form prongs.
Hi Niels @ vandoorenniels, why don't you drill through the cross? I prefer to drill through so it is easier to clean in the long rung, but I'm seeing more and more setters doing it the the same as in this video. I also split my claws before beading them, just find that to be easier. but it does take up more time.
Jacques Roux thanks for your question. I normally don’t drill through because there is no need to do so. Also in this case there was a big engraving on the back of the cross.... ;-)
@@heinikendude Poor stonesetters like me definitely needs to drill through any jewels, ‘cause i’m usually setting stones in thin materials and the customers always ask the price for one gram of gold. 😩
Ηοw exactly do the stones, whatever stone it is, stay in the jewel? Watch or anything, I might miss something but they dont seem to be held by something. I am now discovering basic jewellery stuff and I would like to know!
Nico Papadopoulos thanks for the question. If you look towards the end of the video you see that tiny prongs are being pushed over the diamonds. Check out some of my other videos to get a better understanding of the technique ;-)
Hoi, kunt u mij mischien iets vertellen over de high speed handpiece van de Foredom K1070 pakket? Is de handstuk voldoende om gaatjes te boren etc, want ik heb enorme twijfels. Enig ervaring met deze handstuk? Alvast bedankt!
When i set stones the thermoloc heats up too much from the drill and gets soft, meaning that my piece moves and therfore stops the drill working good. How can I avoid this? Thanks
Hi Triple Six, If the theemoloch heats up to fast you are doing something wrong. It could be that your drill bits are not sharp enough and you therefore have to push to hard. My drill bits go in like into warm butter. But I also only use carbide tips, which are much sharper than traditional ones. Also use some lubricant to cool down the drill and ease the drilling.
Hello! Thats really a beautiful work that you worked there! How many hours you spent on that? And may i ask what did you use for holding the jewelry while you setting it? The grey stuff?

Using super super sharp and great tools help. Gold is a relative soft material. So it’s quite easy to bend
@@heinikendude where can I get some tools like gravers and good drill bits
Thank you sir
Thank you!
Great video, I'm just curious how much grams lost when drilling 1 hole??
Hi,
Not really grams but more micro grams ;-)
Satisfying video!!

@@heinikendude hi, I saw the process of bending the prongs over the stone, but couldn't figure out how did you make the prongs

So I’m confused on how the prongs are made where you set diamonds in and are able to make sure they don’t fall out.
Hi Dani, the prongs are actually really pushed over the diamonds. Later these little piles of gold are cleaned up with a bright cut graver ;-)
What is that you’re using to actually set the diamonds in place
We're removing metal to create tiny tiny holes/seats for the diamonds. Eventually we bend over even smaller prongs to secure the diamonds.

As it was hard to cut the frame around the stones with a blunt stichel, uzhos
KOLOBOK UA yes that is very hard. Always sharpen your graver during work. ;-)
what's the name of the clay you have the cross set in to hold it
Hello!
Thats really a beautiful work that you worked there! How many hours you spent on that?
And may i ask what did you use for holding the jewelry while you setting it? The grey stuff?
Think it is called Thermo-Loc or a similar product. You heat it up and becomes soft and flexible. Goes hard when cooled.
Yes you are correct Lenmil! ;-)
I want to do this. Where's a good place to start
Hi Stocks Up, I would suggest to find a master to teach you. Check out GRS in Emporia
Sensacional!!
Gilberto carlos morais de oliveira Oliveira gracias amigo !
Aqui no Brasil nós não conseguimos comprar essa massa cinza que a peça está presa .
Gracias!
What’s the tool that you use to put the diamonds in the holes called?
That's an home made tool, sort of a very big prong pusher but used to hold the table of the diamond.
At around 6 minutes, what tool is used to do the border?
HI Devesh, the gravers I use are from JuraTools and mostly 60 degree carbide
How thick has the Metal your setting it in need to be ?
HI Merca, i believe the cross was about 1.8 - 2.2 mm thick but don't recall exactly
What happens if you drill to deep ? Doing it by hand can this happen ??
I have what they call "fingerspitzengefühl" so I feel how deep i'm drilling. ;-)
vandoorenniels thank you for the reply I like your content it’s very interesting to watch
grey color clay name plz
Where do you get the diamonds from?
Miguel Ruiz we buy at diamond exchange Antwerp
The ground
I'd I payed you would you teach me maybe give me a walk thru I'm serious I know alot just want to do it right and love your work
How mans ct was that
HI Da Wavy, Oh, I do not recall as I do a lot of work for other jewellers/goldsmiths.
What holds the diamonds in place? I’m stupid I know
There are very very tiny prongs. If you check out some more of my videos then you will start to understand the process ;-)
