I have a ticket booked for Sept 29th. Hoping to start in SJPP by 10/2. I was on Camino 3/4/20-3/15/20 and had to come home from Navarrette. I am going to re-start that way I can take the Napoleon route over the mountains vs the winter route. Hoping you're correct. I get my 1st vaccine shot this Tuesday... so fingers crossed!
@@BillyDeeShilliums you got a taste, of the Frances, it must have been frustrating to be told stop, pack up and go home. I am doing Frances was supposed to go in May but not happening, just booked my flight yesterday. My fingers are crossed too. Buen Camino!
@@Davey-Boyd I'm hoping to get over from the UK for late September too... it could be close! The new European delays with the Astrazeneca vaccine aren't going to help, but hopefully it'll be alright. I suppose it comes down to the situation for the albergues
I really appreciate your thoughts and updates, Ivar. It sounds as if things are improving and glad to hear that. I'll continue planning 2022 in completing my CP (Porto to Santiago). Take care and be safe.
Thanks Ivar for the update. I'm still crossing my fingers to be over there in September. Thanks also for sharing the lovely view and temperature update. I woke up to it feeling like -17C this morning!
Lovely to see you and Santiago in the sunshine. Good news re your vaccines. I will be looking at bringing a group in spring 2022 and planning ahead for then and beyond. May look at a section in France in early Oct 2021 depending on their vaccination situation and borders opening. Keep well Heather x
Thanks again Ivar for the update. I am glad you and your family are safe and doing well. I am glad things are looking up in Spain. I am hoping to go back for a 4th Camino in 2022. Peace and every good.
We were hoping for the middle of May since we didn’t make it last May. We’ll be waiting til the end of March before making a decision. My second shot is scheduled for early April, hope that helps it happened this year. Your weather looks great... we had 3 feet of snow over the weekend and need the plows to come down the streets before we can go anywhere.
Hi Ivar, Thanks for your dedication to let us know the info that you have. You being there on the ground is a plus for all peregrinos. I watched another post, they were saying several albergues are in need of repair they have a donation site. If they do not get the repairs needed. There will be a shortage of beds for pilgrims. I think once Spain opens up there will be a flood gate that opens
Thanks for the updates Ivar. It must be frustrating to not be able to give optimistic news for so long. But I am so pleased for everyone in Spain that finally there is an upward trend (or downward for the virus) and that vaccinations are underway. The Camino and the people of Spain have been in our thought close to every day since this whole pandemic started. And while we have no idea when we are able to finally come again (we’re in Australia), we have faith it will happen. We have no right to whinge..just have to patient.
Dear Ivar, Thank you for these updates; they really do keep us all optimistic for the future. I am thinking about re-walking the Ingles from Ferrol after having had to cancel in November last. I wonder whether the hotels and alburgues might be back to normal by say, October? impossible to predict I know. Thank you again- and my very best to you.
Truly appreciate your information Ivar. 30 million doses of the vaccine delivered in Spain between April and the summer should encourage the politicians to open up your country. If that happens then I would plan to walk the end of September 21. Otherwise my Plan B is in April 22. I am a huge fan and profoundly thank you for keeping us informed. Prayers for you and your wife for the loss you both have suffered. God bless and keep all of us safe.
I like your guess too! Unhappilyvi just listened to the French news and the authorites have decided tostop the Astra Zeneca which means a big slow in the vaccination until more are aproved Too bad.... , i dont Know if in Spain thé Astra Zeneca will still be used or not !
Thanks for the updates the weather seems to be getting better, the vaccine is getting spread around ,so hopefully the end is not that far away, till the Pilgrims can get back on the trail to Santiago SAP
What is the goal the Spanish government has set for opening the country to tourists? First, at least in the US, it was a two week lockdown to “flatten the curve” so we did not overload the health care system. That morphed into a total lockdown for months, and now we just seem to drift from one daily report to the next without knowing where we are heading. The generally accepted mortality rate in the US is 2%, or less, with the majority of deaths in the 70+ age groups. The majority being about 75%. I believe the stats for Spain are about the same. So, at what point are we going to try to return to some form of normalcy? Has the government of Spain set any goals of which you are aware?
It's good of course to see any positive news, but I feel pretty strongly that we should not be visiting other countries until the majority of the destination population has been vaccinated as well as your home country. Otherwise variants will arise, possibly unknown for a while in unvaccinated populations and then spread from country to country. Staying in Albergues etc with people from different contries is a very good way to spread it. To be honest I think anyone doing a pilgrim trail at present or any time soon is just totally irresponsible. I was due to walk last May, then this May. I hope to do it May 22. Europe as a whole is going backwards at present sadly, with increasing cases. Lets just exercise some patience and not but ourselves or others at risk! Sorry to have a rant, but I just don't think we should be considering travel plans until we see how things pan out. Things can go pear-shaped again very, very quickly - and holidays, pilgimages are a privelege not a right!
Thank you for the updates!! They are helpful and I am going to plan my first Camino in 2022.

There is no set goal. Too many things we do not know yet I think. Also, this is a EU decision
