Hope October is good this year. Will be my wife and I second Camino.
Buen Camino!
regarding the camino Frances in September: you are referring to a couple of days where there seems to be a large bubble of pilgrims starting at the same moment. Do you have an idea which dates more or less? looking to do the camino in Sep. and wouldn't mind skipping the bedraces... Great update and video;)
It usually coincides with a holiday or the beginning of the month... or the beginning of the week. I remember seeing stats from the pilgrims office in SJPP on what day of the week most pilgrims start... I don't remember now, but it might be Saturday/Sundays... so if you can, think of starring mid week with no holidays. Buen Camino!
@@Ivar that makes sense! Thanks!
I finished the Ingles from Ferrol on Tuesday and found the route quiet compared to when I walked it in June 2022. There were enough Pilgrims to make it a communal experience but lots of Kms walking alone.
Thank You!! So Nice!!!
@@jerrilynn3331 thank you!
Thank you 😊
I enjoyed seeing your walk through yhe centre and all the people and some festivities going on in Santiago. Looks like a great time to be there.
@@lorettaray8317 thank you! It is busy!
Thank you for this Ivar. I was at Pilgrim House at the end of my first Camino 10 years ago, not long after they opened. It’s a wonderful respite. Since then, I’ve returned several times and referred pilgrims there. Kudos to them.
@@SandiTerps they are great!
I went to the pilgrim house last September to debrief and share my experience walking the Camino Frances. They had me write myself a letter as well. I am so glad I went and did those things. They were so helpful!!
Did you see the movie last night?
I could not make it. I heard it went well!
Thank you, Ivar for your continued good work in providing us with news about the Camino🙏
My pleasure!
@@Ivar your information is invaluable - I share it with a new pilgrim who is starting in September to walk the entire Camino Frances from SJPP 🙏
I also plan to walk another Camino next year. In Canada we see a lot of news stories about the anti-tourist push in Spain. Is this affecting any of the Camino routes?
@@barryrashotte5538 in the major cities, some grumbling .. but not in rural Spain. You will spend 99% of your time there
@@Ivar thx. Thought that would be case.
I’ll walk the Camino again next year can’t wait ❤❤❤thanks for the update!
Buen Camino!
Hello Team Betsy from Team turtle
This is sooo inspirational and highlights the kindness of people

This reminds me of what I witnessed back in 2014 a man & his aid did the Francis from Pamplona to Santiago everyone helped along the way including carrying him over the mountains. It humbles me because those of us that can still walk.
WOW! amazing! Care Team and helpful pilgrims/volunteers.
@@jerrilynn3331 I agree… amazing!
Hi Ivar, thanks. Just completed the Frances from SJPD (3rd July) stayed off stage as much as possible and so many times while walking it seemed like we were the only ones doing the Camino. Never once considered it busy till Saria, even then if you left around 6 am it wasnt too bad.
Ivar….what does ‘off-stage’ mean?
@@LindaBisson not stopping in the stages that the guidebook indicate. Less people, better chance of a bed :-)
@@Ivar Oh right...thanks
You mentioned if you walk off stage. What does that mean?
In the various guidebooks, they indicate the recommended stages to walk. But if you stop and stay outside of these recommended stops, it is easier to find places to stay.

Thanks for the update.I will be walking Inverno,San Salvador and Primitivo in august-september,it is my plan..
Very good... I have heard from pilgrims walking these lesser walked caminos lately, and they have all been good experiences. Buen Camino!
@@Ivar I know they are,I walked the Invierno september 2023 and it was great, met 1 peregrino on the way....I would not mind seeing a few more this time..🤗☺
Thanks for the update. Truly appreciate your support. Take care.

Thank you so much, Ivar, for posting this interview. Andrew, my husband and I were on WhatsApp with Ned Spencer last year, but we couldn't afford the Camino then. We don’t have Facebook, and we're from the US, but we would so love to join an expedition next year. My husband has small boat sailing experience, and I can be taught, and we've both walked a bit of Camino 😊.
Fascinating! Thank you for sharing this experience.
Thank-you Ivar for sharing this wonderful video with us. They must have had an amazing Camino experience.
Greetings to you and thank you Ivar, and a delight to participate and contribute to one of your videocasts - “Buen Camino” and “Ultreia et Suseia“

Ivar--thank you so much for all you do from your Santiago base of operations! I've been looking, thinking, researching, planning since 2020 but still don't have the time needed time away from work. Will have to be 2026. Just curious--have you ever interviewed anyone who has done it by horseback?
👍No, but I had one in the office the other day.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Hi Ivar...It looks very warm there. I am wondering - Do you pick up luggage in Le Puy en Velay??

@@Ivar it’s been quite busy but we’re loving it!
Thanks Ivar for the great information!
Dear Ivar, I haven't watched your videos for a while and to be honest, as a previous donating member of your Camino Forum, your forum website has become almost unusable. I cannot see where you have removed ads. Especially on a mobile device using the forum is impossible. In other words, taking donations to make something usable is in my eyes not fair. An albergue donativo is always usable, welcoming and friendly no matter how much a pilgrim can donate. Perhaps something you want to re-think in regards to monetising your forum. ❤
Hi there, I am open for suggestions... how to make a living off a forum without ads or donations... ideas?
Hi Wewalknow. I found that if you are logged in there are no adds Sometimes my login is kicked off but I just log back in. Hope this helps.
@@taliwalters7757 if you are a donating member and log in, you will see no ads.
Hello Ivar, I love your blogs bringing news from Santiago as well as other Camino issues. Re Covid, early in April there was a great number of people coughing, sneezing & weezing not only on trail but also on the albergues. I had to go to the pharmacies twice: once for sneezing, runny nose & weepy eyes and two weeks later for a bronchial infection. Needless to say I got over it ... whatever it was, but there was something going on🤭
I was in Santiago too during the time of the festival after walking the Portuguese Coastal. I only saw rooms from €200 up and otherwise many km's out of town. Booked the Seminario in advance luckily, which was only open for pilgrims from what I've seen.
Thanks for that update!
Ivar: this is Sam. I was finishing the Camino Inglês and had planned to stay 2 days in Santiago and because of the festival I had to stay outside Santiago the first night. As for fellow pilgrims walking along with me, one knew of the problem ahead of time and arrived in Santiago, got the Compostela and flew out all in the same day because of the lack of rooms; another after arriving in Santiago took the train to A Coruna (30 mins by train) to sleep there . Because I was staying outside Santiago the first night I took a taxi to the hotel (big wait to get one) and made arrangements for a pick up next morning: when talking to the driver he also said he was tired and that with increased number of pilgrims he hasn’t had time to take a vacation. Since there is a limited number of taxis (100?) they are working harder. Don’t know if numbers are correct but he mentioned that with 2,300 pilgrims arriving a day and usually they stay more than one day it is putting a lot of pressure in the service industry. And in high season it is even higher
@@samong1023 thanks for this. It as very busy for a few days there.
Any festivals coming up in July?
It has been much busier from Tui in the last days. We are now at Caldas de Reis and it has been much busier.
Thanks for the update!
Ed Sheeran will be in Santiago July 6, 2024
Thanks for looking that up..
Woopty-doo🤭

This might be a really good thing to post on the blog and Fb
Re Covid. Our hospitals in Adelaide, capital of South Australia, have been on a code yellow for 2 weeks and counting. This means only emergency surgery is being carried out because of the high numbers of hospital staff sick with Covid. It is predicted to get worse as we progress through winter. The spike is international.
How many Albergues are there in Santiago which are only for pilgrims with an official credential? Should these not always be available for pilgrims only, i.e. no tourists. p.s. Your weather is like ours in Scotland ☔️
Not many public albergues in town.. I don’t think there are any actually. All private, meaning anyone can stay.
One day Ivar can you show us some restaurants you like please if you have time
Lovely to meet you both briefly in Casa Ivar yesterday. Interesting and inspiring interview.
Good to see you as well!!
I leave tomorrow for another section of the Frances. Leon to Santiago. I did this 3 years ago. Have gone all the way to Muxia, but wanted to do this bit again. Will pop in to the office on the 24th to donate my poles. BC
