I am a white guy living in Canada. I have been dating an Indian woman for 8 months and it's really been showing me how people are judgmental about immigrants and, in my case, interracial couples. It's small things here and there that we just don't see or want to see. I formed my opinions on race relations the moment I learned about slavery in 4th grade (in a predominantly white school), but then again my mother is and was an educator. I came to the the conclusion that not all white people are racist, black people are inherently at a disadvantage unless they’re good at a sport and a school wants to make itself look better by being more “diverse”, and finally that all people have the potential to be awful human beings. I am a white guy living in Canada. I have been dating an Indian woman for 8 months and it's really been showing me how people are judgmental about immigrants and, in my case, interracial couples. It's small things here and there that we just don't see or want to see. It is so easy to assume that black people, for instance, are using their victim status to exaggerate their situation and take advantage of it, but we whites are truly blinded by our privileges.
