  • Welcome to Driver D trains. Thanks for stopping by! I’m your host Driver D.
We’re joined today by our conductor and brakeman Scratchy-C.

In a recent series of videos I showed you how to assemble and configure a DCC-EX command station. If you haven't already seen those videos, be sure to check them out!
In one of those videos I talked about the problems I had using stranded wire with the screw terminals on my DCC-EX command station. A viewer reminded me that I should be using ferrules!
In this video short, I’ll show you how to use ferrules on your stranded wire to connect to the screw terminals on your DCC-EX command station.
Here is a link to the set of ferrules and crimping tool that I used:

Or solder the wire and cut to length

Thank you for your kind comments. I really appreciate it. Yes, solder does indeed work well on the ends of stranded wire to aid with connections. What is really nice about the ferrules is that they corral all the wire strands together (no strays) and then you can crimp them into the smallest possible size to fit in tight spaces. I think that's what sold me. For the life of me I couldn't get 18 gauge stranded wire into the screw terminals of the Arduino motor shield I was using, which is one of the reasons I originally switched to solid core wire. With the ferrules I was able to make the 18 gauge stranded wire fit (just barely).
      Thanks again!
