It is astonishing how much you are right about the character just by listening his theme. It shows how well composed his theme is and how much knowledge about music you have Marco
I wonder if past presetent and future of whole character arc progression in game is captured in this. maybe we can really see what will happen next with him by music alone.
I was about to write the same comment. It proves music is like a language, the composer used it, and Marco can totally understand it. Still impressive how the depiction he made was so accurate compared to the in-game version !
The ticking of the clock and the urgency you feel in the second part of the battle is not about you, but rather of Tartaglia, because using his powers literally slowly kills him, so he's trying to defeat you as a race against the clock before he dies from overusing his power.
Not only that but he has to defeat you so he can complete the mission so the more in your face part is that he is literally on a timer cause he has to finish his mission
To me, the first part feels like being onboard a massive fishing or merchant ship as a storm arrives. You don’t think it will be so bad, but you see the dark clouds on the horizon. The accordion hits as the first flash of lightning streaks across the sky- and the passengers realize just how bad it is. They try to secure cargo and prepare for turbulent tides… Then the hull crashed into jagged stone, and the phase shifts as the captain realizes: This ship is going down. The waves crash and toss the ship as water breaches the lower levels. Sailors sound the alarms and bang on the rails of the ladders warning the people below to get above deck and get on the life boats before they are sealed with the rushing waters below as they attempt to slow the rising water. At some point, the passengers realize with shear horror, they can’t save everyone, in fact, many have already been washed overboard and dragged beneath by the undercurrents. There is no sadism to this music. Sadism is a human trait. This is a shear force of uncaring nature. The music lulls as the perspective shifts to those who have already escaped, watching in numb horror the spectacle of destruction before them. How many of their friends have managed to escape? How many are gone forever? They know if they haven’t escaped yet, it’s too late. Then as it crescendos, we shift to the perspective of the ship itself, careening into the deep. It tilts up, flooding exponentially faster as the rush of water creates a whirlpool, dragging in all surrounding humanity that hasn’t escaped its reach. And then… quiet. As they rest forever more beneath uncaring sea.
Yeah i like how they properly textured it to tell "your not in urgency, he is." By making it not sound menacing, its faint and in the background. It's like even with all that power, and aura of complete menace, it tell you someone is secretly worried and hiding it. This why it's faint in the background and only noticable if you hear close enough. Just like Tartaglia, he may be cocky, but he has his own worries if you look hard enough.
Fun fact: the guitar frequency matches that of the loneliest whale in the world. He lusts for battle and blood but because of it, he has to keep everything about him away from his family, who he loves deeply. The traveller is one of the few people he can fight and still be on good terms with, despite us knowing what he is.
@@sureindubitably3771 Well, the kid wasn't scheduled to come to Liyue and anyone worth half a heart will try to hold off fighting when there's a child in the battlefield.
A note on 1st phase: at that point Tartaglia doesn't quite take you seriously as an opponent just yet, so he keeps things fun and lighthearted - he doesn't hit quite as hard, his attacks aren't that hard to dodge. However, he still moves around the arena quickly and attacks a lot and just as quickly, so you have to chase after him, and dodge his attacks, and look for openings to strike back, all at the same time, so the whole resulting action looks less like a fight and more like a dance between you two.
@@MarcoMeatball bass of one of the part (I don't remember which) is exactly at 52 hertz, which is the same as the call of the loneliest whale in the world (52- hertz Blue). Its call was never replied by any other whale due to its unusual call frequency- which a clever reference is Tartaglia's constellation symbol, a narwhale (Monoceros Caeli) and his whole lore. Either way, I recommend you listening to live stage symphony ver of his theme, it's much more intense and you can feel his wrath better at the climax
Something interesting about that is that the tension and fear in the music is actually entirely representative of the protagonist's feelings. Tartaglia himself is delighted to have finally met a worthy adversary and revels in being able to let loose for once, and continues to value them and consider them a friend probably primarily if not solely because they're someone strong enough to help him continue improving himself.
Childe is definitely someone who will wink at you right before stabbing you - he's dangerous, but still young and the most charismatic part of his character for me is how he would do anything for his family. The dangerous part comes from him being a high-ranked soldier in his homeland, and his lust for battle. He will fight even if he knows there is a chance he will lose, because he only sees it as an opportunity to learn and improve, not as a failure. What I also love though, it's his honesty - he never tried pretending he is a friend who will help you from the kindness of his heart. No, actually, one of the first lines he says to you is ''I'm not a bad guy... Okay perhaps I'm kind of a bad guy, but I'm not here to give you any trouble.'' He dreams big, even says that he wants to 'conquer the world'. In one second, he is able to dare you to fight him to death, and in the next second, you might see him running around with his little brother. He comes from a place which was designed with Russia in mind - in one of his lines, Childe actually says ''Where I'm from, if we didn't keep moving, we'd freeze to death. Literally.'' His boss fight comes in 3 parts - in the first one, he treats it as a game, using mostly bow (which is his worst weapon, as he says ''I am the least adept with a bow.'') In the second part, he is starting to have more fun, but there is some seriousness in it, changing forms and weapons - now using mostly double swords/spear, his movement is faster and some of his special moves can kill your character with one strike if he hits you (I think any player can relate). His final form, he changes into his Abyssal form (one of the coolest scenes from the game in my opinion) and his moveset is a mix of the two previous parts. He used it after getting serious, even angry, after thinking he will have to defeat us to finish orders he was given. Hence the name 'Wrath of Monoceros Caeli'', which is the name of his constellation - 'Celestial Narwhal'. One of his moves is actually summoning and slamming a large narwhal made of water onto you, which I always thought was an awesome idea for a boss move. There might be some better themes in the game at this point, but I just love his character too much.
I think the quickest way to describe him is someone who thrives living on the edge. It's like he's riding a giant tidal wave that can come crashing down and drown him at any second, but of course it would take one heck of a crash to completely erase him.
@@giuliofortini8496 me reading his name as CheelDE (yes, with the DE behind, E like pEn). LOL We dont even read it as 'Child'.... actually most of the people in my country read the name like that, not that we dont know how to read his name, its just funnier and sillier. XD XD XD
thats really spot on. the whole thing about how childe charms, seduces and is playful is so right. his voicelines during the fight are so FLIRTY and he's intentionally teasing you. you're fighting but he's basically PLAYING. you can tell during the first phase he's having fun.
I like how the three phases represent three personas that Childe could be divided into. First phase is Childe, who fights for Snezhnaya but also loves battling itself. Second phase represents Tartaglia, The Eleventh Harbinger, who solely fights to accomplish the Fatui's goal. That's why there are Snezhnayan motives, but the whole feel gets more serious and cold. And the third persona, Ajax - A man who fell into the Abyss and wanted to fight to keep himself alive and constantly get stronger so he can protect his family. Hardly any Snezhnayan motives, only his own will and the Abyss.
His third persona is what makes him interesting. Even the Abyss itself recognizes him and his strong will, then imbues the man with its power. Combined by the Divine Power bestowed by the Gods (Vision) and Void (Foul Legacy), these are two instruments that makes him special.
I think Tartaglia's the less evil of the harbingers but still quite much a fatui. He's battle crazed to the point of exploiting events just for the sake of fighting... And also he's a pathological liar. Those traits are every much snezhnayan. I mean, he endangered his own little brother just to keep his lies,
The whale song in his last phase is a callback to his representative constellation which is a lone narwhal. Tartaglia is tainted by the abyss in game , so he’s condemned to loneliness because nobody else can understand the darkness/madness that is now irrevocably a part of him. Although his facade is really charming, his real self cannot make real connections any more because he’s no longer even fully human. The only thing that excites him now is the bloodlust in battle and climbing to the top of the food chain. He disregards everything else as trivial amusements.
Not only did you manage to nail his personality You got his story, plotline and even attack move set just from the music and without seeing his design, that's actually insane I'd recommend some songs related to a character called the Raiden Shogun. They're called "Termination of Desires", "Bane of Ambitions" and "The Almighty Violet Thunder"
"You know this is a dangerous character to be around but you can't help it you're drawn by his magnetism and by his charisma and by the sense of class and and how he presents himself" You described why I main him perfectly
"Playful with a sense of danger" THAT could be literally a description of Tartaglia's personality in the game, OMG. This shows they did a great job matching the music to the themes of the game.
Tartaglia is cocky, confident and elusive, but he also is A WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION. He's one of the most dangerous and mysterious characters from the game. He represents his name and role well but is also a powerful enemy, hence the "heavy action" aspects of the song.
In terms of raw power he's the most frightening of the Harbingers so far just because he mastered his Foul Legacy - an abyssal power - before he gained his vision, not only did he get blessed by the gods with a vision he was also given a delusion by the Tsaritsa. This power inconsistency makes sense though if he's representing Chaos from a biblical sense which fits his character to a T. You'd think the Tsaritsa would only send him to do a job if she was unconcerned with collateral damage, haha.
@@juska4235 I think it's ranked more from their seniority and other skillsets that they may have which doesn't have to be in combat, though it's still is a given that they are capable in combat but I don't think it's the sole factor for their rankings.
Definitely one of my favourites. I can't really choose one though, I love all the boss themes, but never-ending performance (ironic how that is also the name of Kaeya's second constellation) is my third favourite, I think.
9:55 Spot on description. Childe is introduced as a character you should be afraid of from the get-go but he has this disarming charm about him. He doesn't try to hide that he loved fighting, he openly challenges you and he is unapologetic about his goals. Through it all, however, he remains with a certain degree of honour. He seems down-to-earth in a way. But then, in the last phase of combat, he uses an ability (he transforms (again)) that is exceedinly reckless and forbidden, something you did not expect of him. This guy is in way deeper than you thought and he has no qualms using "evil" powers to get stronger.
"He charms you, he seduces you" meanwhile tartaglia during the fight: "Amuse me" "I promise I'll be gentle" "You're wide open" It's scary how accurate it is
i was actually surprised how right he was on describing childe's personality just by the theme. hoyomix really did a great job making a battle theme for this character. all of the battle themes in the game are amazing and just keeps getting better.
Childe is one of the most misunderstood characters in Genshin Impact (sometimes on purpose bc some ppl just hate him for some reason) and my mans here understands more about his character on a fundamental level just from his battle theme without ever even touching the game. There's so much genius here from Yu-Peng Chen.
Fun fact about this character if you get him he uses a bow. Which is actually lore wise his worst weapon if I'm not mistaken. Hes just trying to show off that he can use anything lol. I love how right you are about the character and the boss fight. You basically got his character and when he transforms in the boss fight. Lmao thats awesome
"You never know which direction he's gonna go in" - Meanwhile there's me getting slashed from the back because I'm faced the wrong way 😅 My goodness, it really is mindblowing listening to you describe a character better than someone who plays him 👏👏👏
Imagine fighting Childe during Co-op and one of the teammate is a childe user. I sometime use my ult to the wrong childe and they would type "really?" to me. Lol
Tartaglia is a pretty great boss. He was overpowered in Genshin 1.1 Story Quest but got nerfed. Tartaglia as a character is interesting since he is dangerous but not necessarily evil. He only cares about one thing above all else....the battle. Truly a wild card.
@@superqaxclub no it is not because of OP character but the fact that everyone in 1.1 mostly are lower in level and the artifact most people have are not as min/max yet as they have not fully go ham on farming i myself could easily kill him in like 2 min or even less with only C0 Lion Roar Keqing so yeah same goes even with Beidou or Rosaria
excuse me as a new player i have so many questions, i watched a video of his gameplay and that was reaallyyy cool, i heard that he wont comeback anymore tho, is that true 😢
I like how you talked about the Twisted holiness , he is a harbinger someone who serve the tsaritsa (god of ice) , so we are literally fighting a servant of a god thus he is Holy, and the Twisted part is that he is using the forbidden powers of the Abyss and his delusion, he is using both "Devine" and "demonic" powers together in one single transformation the "Foul legacy - the devouring Deep"
Tartaglia is pretty interesting charecter. I can say that he is nicest guy in villian group, when you first meet him he even tells that you shouldnt trust him easly. Despite his lust for combat Tartaglia is actually just a good cocky (and pretty strong) guy who just forced to do orders. Between 11 Harbringers he is only one who prefers head on combat then schems and plans (But he is not dumb at all). Really cares about his family more then everithing else and after this fight in his own quest we get to know that he would love to quit his job and join our adventure
He's not really forced tbh. There was a conversation between him and that living puppet thing in an event, he basically said that there's nothing wrong with being a weapon, cause he's one as well
True, He was forced to enlist but now he wholeheartedly serves the Tsaritsa. He's happy to do anything for her goal, even if the method is totally underhanded.
@@muhammadamirhamzah6477 at the start he was forced, his parents couldn't deal with how he was after he fell into the abyss so they sent him to the military (fatui) to sort of tame that. Which backfired because it only worsened it. That's when he willingly became a weapon
@@moraelity well he did beat up the fatui who come to get him though...and I dont think Pulcinella actually forced him. His story said Pulcinella said he has recruited him with pretext of punishment, ordering him to work up from the bottem...I think he might told Childe that if he will get the title of a harbinger if he can do it, promising more power and battles. And even if Pulcinella didnt told Childe, in the moment he recruited him, Childe was meant to be a harbinger
Crazy how every song he listens to he ALWAYS gets the descriptions of the characters down to a tea. Spoilers ahead but I'll try to not go into too much detail: But the energy of Childe when he helps throughout the first part of the story makes you feel like someone you can trust, but later is revealed he had an ulterior motive and used you to get information to wreak havoc on Liyue. I would like to point out that he likes the thrill of battle and sees you as a kind of rival I guess (If you have him though, he calls you comrade in his lines, so some relationship like that). What he was doing wasn't good but he just wanted a good fight and after beating him he talks about taking you to see his family in Snezhnaya and going on adventures with you instead of being part of the Fatui. It's true, even after he caused chaos, I love his character and how he likes to play around but can get serious when he needs to.
All of that is exactly what happened in the liyue archon quest where childe was the 'main villain'! I'm so amazed by your interpretation of the music and how you managed to get it all right!! I appreciate this video much more since I main him lmaoo
His charm comes from his kindness towards his loved ones, his playfulness comes from his immense love and lust for battle, his danger comes from his past and experience, his twistedness comes from his obsession for power
I love how Yu Peng Chen and his team manage to condense the whole Tartaglia section in the archon story arc in his battle music and Marco deciphers all that with amazing accuracy Truly the beauty of music as a language
"playful with the edge of danger" Childe/Tartaglia when you face him at the very beginning: "I'll be gentle..." (then he hurls a hydro whale at you) what I can say is that you nailed that part of him perfectly
9:27 "This is completely demonic!" I want to share my interpretation of those guitar notes as well. Don't worry, I'll keep it as spoiler-free as possible just in case. First off, yes, your interpretation hit the mark. The game uses different terminology, but the power he starts using in his final phase originates from a faction strictly opposed to the gods of the world. Secondly, those notes most definitely mimic the sounds of a whale song. There's no way this isn't intentional as Tartaglia's flashiest attack is arguably the one in which he summons a giant whale made out of water to splash down into the arena. Definitely the "some sort of like violent move where he comes up and slams on the ground or something" you were theorizing about.
I love that in one of the first phases of the fight he teases you with "all you do is run", while we dodge his fast attacks. And it's fitting that the first part is called "Never-Ending Performance", it's like a play or dance for Tartaglia to entertain himself. They say in his character story, that he loves to participate in plays and just loves attention. The last part of the fight is just his pure rage, when he thinks we, the player, pulled one over him and he unleashes a power that is to great to handle for him.
I realized just now that it has parts that were used again in La Signora's theme, I guess that's the Fatui's theme since they're both high-ranking members of that group. That explains the accordion as well since the Fatui take inspiration from Italy and Venice carnivals.
Both Wrath of Monoceros Caeli and the second phase of La Signora's theme share the same motif, probably representing their allegiance. Awesome to get feedback from someone knowledgable on classical music. Genshin Impact's music has no business being this good and I wish it had more recognition.
It brings me such UNBRIDLED joy to see you ABSOLUTELY spot on you are about his character. Also I love how you brought up the fact how they used accordion!! Tartaglia (or Childe) hails from a region in Teyvat called Shneznaya (directly translates to “snowy” in Russian) and it heavily relies on Slavic culture, and being a slav myself, accordions are a big part of our culture, and are seen as a more “goofy” instrument. It amazes me how spot on you are able to describe Childe’s character, seeing as you have never played the game before!! I would definitely suggest to listen to Qilin’s Prance (Ganyu’s character theme) and Rex Incognito (Zhongli’s character theme). They are songs that i definitely can listen to all day. Love your content and cant wait to see more!!
Im actually stunned at how well you read the character as he appears in the game. Good lord. Seductive, devious, playful with a sense of danger, charismatic, light on his feet, changing shape, going from a duel to a true fight, the demonic vibe, his twisted nature. You even got his story spot on as he's initially our friend. Incredible. I'm no musician but one thing I did notice was how his final form music sounds like a whale - an animal he's associated with. He even summons a magical whale in the battle. I always thought I was so clever for picking up that one but apparently I still have much to learn about how music communicates.
Everyone here in the comments be talking about how Tartaglia is a bloodlust and all, and I’m here amazed by how you figured out his charming attitude The first time the player encounters Tartaglia was when we were saved by him, and everyone in the fandom knows his famous line “hey girlie, hold still”. Not long after that, he took us out for a meal The player knows he’s a bad guy, but can’t help to bond with him for some time
I like how you described him as demonic or possessed. In Genshin, a vision is what give characters the ability to use elements. It is given to them by gods. A delusion do the same thing, but saps away at your life force, basically the opposite of a vision, so if a vision is something “holy” then a delusion that Tartaglia use in his last phase would be considered “demonic”.
Something from Genshin impact I highly recommend you listen to is “The Divine Damsel of Devastation” This song involves Chinese Opera (sung by a character who’s voice acted by an actual opera singer) and it’s arguably one of the best tracks in the game
Great analasys! You pretty much nailed the character. Tartaglia, aswell as La Signora, are both part of the "11 harbingers" of the games antagonistic organisation called the Fatui. More of these harbingers also have names from the type of opera you talked about, such as Il Dottore, Il Capitano and Pantalone. Since Signora and Tartaglia are both part of the fatui they also share a certain melody in both their themes, which was played in the beginning with the accordion in this one!
YASSS finally a review on Tartagles themes... Tartag is such a fun, risky, rewarding character to play. I think he's very multi dimensional. You can play him melee or range. And yess he changes form but after that his energy is drained and become lethargic. (Sigh his long cooldown in game that is) Fell in love with him after doing his story. He's deep down a family man~ Also his Eng VA is amazing carrying the whole fandom on his shoulder. Lol
Just FYI, the burst and skill generally don't have a lot to do with the characters in-lore power level. Lisa, a 4 star, is supposed to be incredibly gifted with her electro arts and terrifying when she gets mad, supposedly the very air around her electrifies. Ninguang also is an incredibly gifted Geomancer, we get to see some of her true strength in the Liyue questline against Osial. Tarty's playable kit doesn't reflect his true power, what we fought in the boss fight was first his vision, then his delusion and finally his foul legacy, the last two considerably increase his power by multiples at the cost of his life force and humanity respectively.
just from listening to the boss ost you understood tartaglia's character better than 90% of the people in the fandom lmao also 8:51 is exactly the moment i was waiting for
1:43 It's like an agile hunter is hunting, the hunter moves too fast and the prey can't escape his sight. 8:15 Here he becomes an emotionless killer, chasing his prey.
Tartaglia's last phase boss theme which is Wrath of Monoceros Caeli gives me this "you have got to hurry, time is running out or else you are screwed" kinda vibes
Your ability to derive every single dimension of a setting and character's traits simply from analyzing the musical score as performed is equally as genius as the producers involved with weaving it all into these masterpieces. Bravo until the end of time.
its extremely fascinating, almost even a bit scary how incredibly correct you are about each character just from listening to their music theme. and this wasnt even his personal demo theme, you were able to list all his character traits just from a battle theme. im not a music person much but i think it shows not only your incredible music knowledge but also the ability of the composer, Yup-Peng Chen to express characters through music.
I don't watch TH-cam about Genshin so I don't spoil myself. That includes music. And I heard the boss theme, searched it up, and was led to this video. Now every time I face a new boss I search marcomeatball and watch his analysis.
It's so refreshing to see a singer get SO much of the characterization from the orchestration! Us vocalists always get some flack for not having the best ears lol, but I think singers can innately pick up the emotions behind music pretty quickly. And your comment about Childe's playful machismo is spot on -- from the moment the main character meets him, that's exactly how he behaves until he's really challenged. Side note: if you got any Russian chorus vibes, it's intentional; Childe is part of the Fatui, an organization from Genshin Impact's iteration of Russia, Snezhnaya.
You actually made almost an exact analysis about Tartaglia and his personality just by listening to his theme. That’s amazing 🤩 the music speaks to you
My first reaction to Childe boss fight: First phase: Seems easy enough so this will be a cakewalk. Second phase: This is rough but I think i can best him. Third phase: Oh you gotta be kidding me! (Only 3 of my characters barely survived...then got oneshotted so that the healer remained standing).
@@tilde5884 Qiqi, whom I only got after 13 months of playing, was the first character who I managed to solo Childe without food or anyone else in the team. Even when I tried doing that with phys Zhongli and Ganyu I still ended up using food and having Barbara as a backup. Qiqi and Kokomi are definitely my type of healers hehe (sorry, just a long time Qiqi wanter who is happy with their Qiqi and not really into the whole "Qiqi is bad" situation)
My first reaction was ruined because I overestimated him and was very paranoid into the fight, so all my characters were in best condition. So the reaction was kinda.... I was tense the entire time, and then... That's it?
There are 11 fatui harbingers in game all from the commedia dell'arte their names are Pedrelino (1st Harbinger) Pulcinella (5th Harbinger) Scaramouche (6th Harbinger) Signora (8th Harbinger) Tartaglia (11th Harbinger) Dottore Pantalone Sandrone Capitano And two is still not known.
You seriously nailed Tartaglia's character. In the first two phases he doesn't take you so seriously; he's confident he'll win the fight. He's playful and teases you. He is harder to dodge in the second phase but it's only in the 3rd phase where you really feel that things get serious; he's finally unleashed his full power and you're fighting him at his best while in the story, your character has already been battered from the first two phases. The fact that you're able to glean so much about his character from the themes shows both how knowledgeable you are and how amazing the composer is.
Thank you so much for reacting to it, your insights are fantastic. You were correct in your characterization predictions. Also not sure if you noticed but, in the second part of this theme, you can hear whale call sounds - I found it so interesting that they included it there, since the character of Tartaglia has heavy narwhal / whale themes (he even summons one, as u predicted - slamming into the ground, during his boss battle).
I love analysis videos for game music, and one thing about Genshin music that gives props to the composer is that you got the characterization and even what is happening during the battle pretty much spot on. The last 'phase' of the song where you described as 'demonic' is basically Tartaglia tapping into the 'dark side' of power and powering up to face off the MC with their true power. You got that spot on! The initial part where you mentioned the character being 'light on their feet' speaks to the fact that Tartaglia is supposed to be good at many different types of weaponry and fighting and changes weapon types during the fight itself (as well as a playable character).
It's so nice to be able to listen to these pieces with commentary from someone who really knows their stuff! Partially to appreciate all the deeper layers that go into the composition but also to just listen to the whole thing in full 😂 tartaglia goes down too quickly every week
He is one of upperman from the game antagonist, called the fatui, and they have 11 upperman called the 11 fatui harbinger. All their codename come from commedia dell'arte characters, such as tartaglia, la signora, scaramouche, pulcinella, il dottore, arlecchino, capitano, pierro, etc
Tartaglia is so blinded by his desire for battle that his weapon of choice is the bow - the weapon he is least adept at. He does so literally only just to show off, which I think is an incredible detail and shows how much confidence simply just oozes out of the guy. Love how accurate you are with your comments as well, incredible work man
Funny you should mention that Tartaglia's music sounds 'Godlike' because he's literally one of THE first big bosses you face in the game. He's the first thing most players ended up dying to, so he really DOES feel like this terrifying, God-like beast.
Tartaglia is part of a Mafia in the game called the Fatui, and he is one of the 11 Harbingers Wich act like the generals of said Mafia. Every Harbinger has an Italian Alias, for this character is Tartaglia (his real name is Ajax). La Signora was also one of the Harbingers and La Signora was her Alias.
@@sanstheskeleton679 kinda, but remember he had to lie to his family about being a Fatui. He had to told his little brother that he was a toy seller and when he talks to one of his sisters in a letter he says that he is just "dealing with some affairs in foreign lands".
Honestly, the notes of tango in his first phase are a magnificent representation of his character; The charmer on the dancefloor that looks like is dancing with you, but is actually teasing you and trying to outpace you, before, of course, he pulls out his knives and stabs you while stealing a kiss. I also find it ironic that in the transformation phase, you hear a sound similar to the music they play in churchs, while what is actually happening is the definition of unholiness on Genshin.
If you ever get the chance to get and play as Tartaglia imo he's one of the most fun units to play. And it matches pretty spot on with your descriptions of him in both character and playstyle. He's one of the few where you need to be more cognizant of how you use him. But once you figure it out he's very destructive, satisfying and fun to play. His theme made me stop for a second in the midst of battle just so I could take in what I was listening to.
@@MarcoMeatball he is a character you can obtain by gacha, and to get him you have to buy the ingame wallet or by grinding which is take longer. Sadly he is not easily recruited haha.

Wow! Thanks for this emotions. Tartaglia is my most favourite character in Genshin. Bc of his lore and great character idea (parts of Italian, Greek and Russian culture that Hoyoverse writers were able to combine in one character). As Russian myself I see much more in him and all the Fatuis, they are quite familiar :) And it's always interesting to learn something new about the characters of commedia dell'arte! Thank you for your work ^_^
Excellent exposure to the deeper language of music as always! And of course, a nice demonstration as to why learning about music and theater can give us a far greater window into the media we consume today. If you go into his visual design, you'll want both in-universe context and anime visual design context. The former is perhaps too lengthy to go into, but the latter is used relatively simply here, the most important component being the usage of a scarf to denote a classic Japanese superhero-style protagonist. This is the outward appearance that he uses for his younger siblings, who he as a concept feels a strong justice to be a role model for. Hence, the Madrigal quartet is quite possibly a straight play on holy justice, at least within his heart; he does evil, especially that opposed to the heavens, but it is a relative good to his family and people, and thus he pulls his blade on you. A solemn admittance to the manner the world of Genshin Impact is inverted (at least as far as my current interpretation goes). In the end, Tartaglia wants you to delight in the fight itself, and to the thrill of combat. And so his song returns to whimsy at the end. The devs really know their themes - I could perhaps even describe this game as a meandering symphonic poem. There is a lot for you to delve into if you start to look at the soundtrack as a whole. Be warned - it is hours upon hours of listening!
Oh my another amazing reaction and breakdown! You really got Tartaglia's personality down as well, a child who fell into the abyss and fought tooth and nail to get out only to come out with a bloodlust for battle, to the point of being called "The Tsarista's war dog". He is destruction hidden behind a sly smile and this piece reflects it beautifully! It is true he was playing around more in the first score, only using his own power (his vision, a gift from Celestia/the heavens) and even offering to be gentle should we surrender. the second section is when the fight gets serious. He starts to use his delusion, a gift given to him by his archon, and there is no more playing. This is also reflected in the piece gaining the almost holy sound as he is using his Archon and Queen's gifted power. The third section is when he releases his power gained from the Abyss, turning into a towering beast of a person. The abyss is known as a place where monsters are birthed and nightmares created and it reflects in the last section and his design very well. I may not fight him much but hes got a very interesting theme that I enjoy listening to!
“Playful with a edge of danger” describes this character perfectly describes this character he’s smarter then you and he knows he’s smarter then you and hes basically toying with us for most of the fight And part way through when the music gets all serious he basically becomes this almost alien form and every atk he does looks like it will absolutely kills us. Not only that earlier in the night he’s occasionally tease with witty remakes but after he transforms he legit says die now
also you're really cool, like super impressive, i think your guesses or assumptions are amazing as somebody whos played for almost two years. i use him alot in game and you are just astonishingly accurate, its really really cool!!!!
Its amazing how you described exactly how Tartaglia fights without even seeing how he fights just by listening to the music and how he goes from playing around to getting more serious.
"...but it's used to describe a character that is the antithesis of what is holy..." He was trained in the abyss, which can be considered the opposite of holy. If you compare his eyes with the rest of the characters, they're kind of dead. No shine to them. So in battle yes he could akined to something demonic. You're so spot on, I love it so much!
DUDE. You got Tartaglia's personality on point. You're descriptions/explanation on the different phases of his battle theme is hella accurate. I usually just listen to these osts and never think about the meaning/story behind them but you made me rethink how I listen to them now. Thank you for making this
I love that at the point when u describe the mood as "simply demonic" it was a point in the fight where he transforms with the help of uuh "magic?" he learned from the abyss, a power no human was supposed to possess and while it grants u imense power it also wears your body down and when you use it to often, it does kill you. The way you describe Tartaglia without knowing him in the game speaks volume the creative use of the music. Its amazing
Thank you for your reaction! How on earth could you get his characterization so spot-on! Tartaglia is definitely a man that's more than meets the eye. Playful, charming, cocky and dangerous is how he is. He's one of the most polarized character in the game, whether you hate him or love him, his duality is what makes his characterization so special.
It's crazy how spot on you were able to describe Tartaglia's character by just analyzing the music. At the start, he acts rather flirtatious towards you saying stuff like, "I won't kill you" and "I promise I'll be gentle" before the fight. His attacks are low power but fast, he zips around the field and taunts you while you try to catch him. He also compliments you when you push him to bring out his next level of power. "Not bad, not bad. Perhaps I should take you a little more seriously." It's is like you say, he's just having some fun. Not sure if you care about spoilers or not. If you do then just ignore the next bit of my comment. nothing too "spoilery" but I'm kind of walking the line. The later parts of the song, when you say, "there was a change of shape." That indeed is what was happening. during that part, he's pissed off and transforms into basically a war machine. His flirtatious lines are now replaced with lines saying, "Nowhere to run" or "you die here." All of his attacks slow down and have large fore-swings but hit like a truck. Getting hit applies a mark to you and this mark for as long as you don't remove it puts you at risk of a slam attack like you described 9:43. The fact you were able to pull certain attacks that he possesses through listening to his theme is very impressive. Listening to your analysis on this track has shown me just how much I underrated it. For telling a character's story through song alone, It's such a well composed piece. To think that I thought this track was boring and monotonous before, I must have just never actually listened to it.
the part when you talk about shifting is really on point! he basically shifts himself in something that I might call a demon or a monster the emotions the first fight with tartaglia gives is unforgettable, the way music connects with games mechanics is just *chief kiss* it feels so good to see someone else noticing all those details I do (I am not a professional musician, but I had may fair share studying music :D) thank you!! I will definitely watch your other videos
The thing that I love about this review is that you are actually spot on with Tartaglia’s entire split persona, when you first meet him, he is made out to act as a friend, alto he himself actually does clearly hint at him self as “not a nice/great guy” and up until the big reveal of what his plans and intentions hold, even goes as far as giving you money, and even treats you to dinner in order to gain your trust and then when you confront him in the golden chamber, that is when his true colors become clear to you, and you get to see just what kind of “monster” he has become, definitely recommend the game, as the storyline is an amazing thing to entangle yourself into.
He even got the betrayal (Tartaglia helps you and then summons a literal god to destroy you) right :D His music is one of the best in the game imo and it perfectly describes him. Also, the streets of Europe -- Childe is the only character we have so far from Snezchnaya, which is inspired by Russia. The accordion deadass makes me think of Russian folk music.

It is astonishing how much you are right about the character just by listening his theme. It shows how well composed his theme is and how much knowledge about music you have Marco
It's also a testament to how good the OST is, being able to convey so much objective information just through musical connotations.
@@anch95 totally, I am looking forward for Marco to react to the Boreal Wind themes
It is also proved how well mihoyo music works
The ticking of the clock and the urgency you feel in the second part of the battle is not about you, but rather of Tartaglia, because using his powers literally slowly kills him, so he's trying to defeat you as a race against the clock before he dies from overusing his power.
thanks for mentioning this! I never see anyone talk about this
literally crying his whole character is amazing
Not only that but he has to defeat you so he can complete the mission so the more in your face part is that he is literally on a timer cause he has to finish his mission
To me, the first part feels like being onboard a massive fishing or merchant ship as a storm arrives. You don’t think it will be so bad, but you see the dark clouds on the horizon. The accordion hits as the first flash of lightning streaks across the sky- and the passengers realize just how bad it is. They try to secure cargo and prepare for turbulent tides…
Then the hull crashed into jagged stone, and the phase shifts as the captain realizes: This ship is going down.

Beautiful!
But I just one shot him. Well, 3 shot, but still.
What a way to describe tango lol
No, actually, one of the first lines he says to you is
''I'm not a bad guy... Okay perhaps I'm kind of a bad guy, but I'm not here to give you any trouble.''
He dreams big, even says that he wants to 'conquer the world'. In one second, he is able to dare you to fight him to death, and in the next second, you might see him running around with his little brother.
He comes from a place which was designed with Russia in mind - in one of his lines, Childe actually says ''Where I'm from, if we didn't keep moving, we'd freeze to death. Literally.''
His boss fight comes in 3 parts - in the first one, he treats it as a game, using mostly bow (which is his worst weapon, as he says ''I am the least adept with a bow.'')
In the second part, he is starting to have more fun, but there is some seriousness in it, changing forms and weapons - now using mostly double swords/spear, his movement is faster and some of his special moves can kill your character with one strike if he hits you (I think any player can relate).
Great description!

I think the quickest way to describe him is someone who thrives living on the edge. It's like he's riding a giant tidal wave that can come crashing down and drown him at any second, but of course it would take one heck of a crash to completely erase him.
Lets not forget that when he transforms into Foul Legacy he gives us a magical girl transformation lolol

thats really spot on. the whole thing about how childe charms, seduces and is playful is so right. his voicelines during the fight are so FLIRTY and he's intentionally teasing you. you're fighting but he's basically PLAYING. you can tell during the first phase he's having fun.
But then he realises that his foe is not to be taken lightly and reveals his true might.
As a Childe simp, I can attest to this
He speaks? I kill him too fast lmao
True
Haha, Hu Tao goes 3 shots brrrrrrrrrr
This comment made my day.
For anyone reading this who isn't aware, Ajax is Childe's actual name.
I- I never thought about it but yea you're right...
I mean, he endangered his own little brother just to keep his lies,
This man characterized Tartaglia better that the entirety of the Genshin Impact fandom, just from listening to his boss theme.
Holy shit.
10000%😆🤣
The whale song in his last phase is a callback to his representative constellation which is a lone narwhal. Tartaglia is tainted by the abyss in game , so he’s condemned to loneliness because nobody else can understand the darkness/madness that is now irrevocably a part of him. Although his facade is really charming, his real self cannot make real connections any more because he’s no longer even fully human. The only thing that excites him now is the bloodlust in battle and climbing to the top of the food chain. He disregards everything else as trivial amusements.
That guitar at 8:51 just reminds me of the song made by 52 Blue. I think that Tartaliya is the representation of 52 Blue.
It's interesting cause if you zoom up close on his face (at least as a player character) he has such a dead look in his eyes.
Not only did you manage to nail his personality
You got his story, plotline and even attack move set just from the music and without seeing his design, that's actually insane
I'd recommend some songs related to a character called the Raiden Shogun. They're called "Termination of Desires", "Bane of Ambitions" and "The Almighty Violet Thunder"
"You know this is a
dangerous character to be around but you can't help it you're drawn by his magnetism and by his charisma and by the sense of class and and how he presents himself"
You described why I main him perfectly
I felt that comment so much 😅♥️🙏
"Playful with a sense of danger" THAT could be literally a description of Tartaglia's personality in the game, OMG.
Cooool
In terms of raw power he's the most frightening of the Harbingers so far just because he mastered his Foul Legacy - an abyssal power - before he gained his vision, not only did he get blessed by the gods with a vision he was also given a delusion by the Tsaritsa.
This power inconsistency makes sense though if he's representing Chaos from a biblical sense which fits his character to a T. You'd think the Tsaritsa would only send him to do a job if she was unconcerned with collateral damage, haha.
@@Rexhunterj Idk, he's still number 11? I think they'd know how to rank them right more than us?

9:55 Spot on description. Childe is introduced as a character you should be afraid of from the get-go but he has this disarming charm about him. He doesn't try to hide that he loved fighting, he openly challenges you and he is unapologetic about his goals. Through it all, however, he remains with a certain degree of honour. He seems down-to-earth in a way. But then, in the last phase of combat, he uses an ability (he transforms (again)) that is exceedinly reckless and forbidden, something you did not expect of him. This guy is in way deeper than you thought and he has no qualms using "evil" powers to get stronger.

you were so right, man!
Tartaglia has one of the best music theme, cutscenes, story quest, and gameplay.. a very well made character.
"playful with the edge of danger"
Childe/Tartaglia when you face him at the very beginning: "I'll be gentle..." (then he hurls a hydro whale at you)
what I can say is that you nailed that part of him perfectly
9:27 "This is completely demonic!"
I want to share my interpretation of those guitar notes as well.
"Something demonic"
Damn you guessed his second phrase right, he transform into abyssal form lol
Everyone here in the comments be talking about how Tartaglia is a bloodlust and all, and I’m here amazed by how you figured out his charming attitude
The first time the player encounters Tartaglia was when we were saved by him, and everyone in the fandom knows his famous line “hey girlie, hold still”.
Not long after that, he took us out for a meal
The player knows he’s a bad guy, but can’t help to bond with him for some time
I like how you described him as demonic or possessed.
Something from Genshin impact I highly recommend you listen to is “The Divine Damsel of Devastation”
This song involves Chinese Opera (sung by a character who’s voice acted by an actual opera singer) and it’s arguably one of the best tracks in the game
omg yes!!
Ikr! Its the only song that gives me shivers!!
Pulcinella, Arlecchino and Pierro(t)/Jester too
Can't forget about Scaramouche. One of my personal favorite characters.
At 8:25 as well, the main melody is also present in Signora’s battle.
7:02 yes. Yes he dose change shape. Specifically, he has a glorified magical girl transformation
"I'll stab you *wink*" that's Tortellini's personality right there. love it lol
YASSS finally a review on Tartagles themes... Tartag is such a fun, risky, rewarding character to play. I think he's very multi dimensional. You can play him melee or range. And yess he changes form but after that his energy is drained and become lethargic. (Sigh his long cooldown in game that is)
Fell in love with him after doing his story. He's deep down a family man~
Also his Eng VA is amazing carrying the whole fandom on his shoulder. Lol
after "hey girlie, hold still" my heart was stolen
@@Rexhunterj Tarty hskjdfakjfd
just from listening to the boss ost you understood tartaglia's character better than 90% of the people in the fandom lmao also 8:51 is exactly the moment i was waiting for
1:43 It's like an agile hunter is hunting, the hunter moves too fast and the prey can't escape his sight.
8:15 Here he becomes an emotionless killer, chasing his prey.
Tartaglia's last phase boss theme which is Wrath of Monoceros Caeli gives me this "you have got to hurry, time is running out or else you are screwed" kinda vibes
''No idea, just winging it'', got it spot on what the heck?!!
Now all I need is to see your reactions to the in-game cutscenes and fights!
If you’re lucky
He literally just explained Childe's personality while having no knowledge of Genshin Impact, And before he even listened to the song!
this just shows how much of a geniuses genshin music writers are and how incredibly well marco can read music
His strongest basic attack on his playable character is his fourth one. He throws the arrow by hand....
That’s amazing 🤩 the music speaks to you
Tartaglia in game is definetly very cocky and confident. Bad boy vibes
Nice!
My first reaction to Childe boss fight:
First phase: Seems easy enough so this will be a cakewalk.
Second phase: This is rough but I think i can best him.
Third phase: Oh you gotta be kidding me! (Only 3 of my characters barely survived...then got oneshotted so that the healer remained standing).
The Healer is a C6 Qiqi
That's it?
@@annalisehua kinda same, I was so scared but it was much easier than I expected. Still liked it :)

Actually Childe looks like prince without dead eyes. I like this misunderstanding.
There are 11 fatui harbingers in game all from the commedia dell'arte their names are Pedrelino (1st Harbinger)
Pulcinella (5th Harbinger)
Scaramouche (6th Harbinger)
Signora (8th Harbinger)
Tartaglia (11th Harbinger)
Dottore
Pantalone
Sandrone
Capitano
And two is still not known.
Pedrelino has been changed to Pierro.
Arlecchino is confirmed through a hidden quest in Inazuma.
New trailer dropped
@@naethavenir9422 yep
@@Iori-kun why did that occur? Pedrolino sounds a bit more nice imo
❤️🙏🙏
Thank you so much for reacting to it, your insights are fantastic. You were correct in your characterization predictions.
Also not sure if you noticed but, in the second part of this theme, you can hear whale call sounds - I found it so interesting that they included it there, since the character of Tartaglia has heavy narwhal / whale themes (he even summons one, as u predicted - slamming into the ground, during his boss battle).
I didn’t notice! I also missed the la signora motif sadly until I was editing
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh that’s why they all have the same theme. Raiden does too.
I wouldn't call them a "Mafia"
They are quite literally the military of Snezhnaya
@@MarcoMeatball Yeah, in the case of Raiden Shogun, she killed la Signora after the main character (you in game) defeated her in a duel.
@@sanstheskeleton679 kinda, but remember he had to lie to his family about being a Fatui.
He had to told his little brother that he was a toy seller and when he talks to one of his sisters in a letter he says that he is just "dealing with some affairs in foreign lands".
@@MarcoMeatball wait you already reacted to Raiden theme?
So you fight him and recruit him?
@@MarcoMeatball he is a character you can obtain by gacha, and to get him you have to buy the ingame wallet or by grinding which is take longer. Sadly he is not easily recruited haha.
@@MarcoMeatball You fight him yes, but recruit not necessarily. That's a bit more complicated since it relates to how you obtain characters in game. But he is indeed someone playable in game!
@@MarcoMeatball he is a main villain in the story but he consider you as a friend.

but he's a Good guy as a family member, because he pulled the same thing that he used to try to defeat the Main character, just to give what his brother wants.

Meant to go to the toilet until I saw this popup on my notification. I'm doing anything to see someone react to my Lord Harbinger's theme.

Paimon: Look! A Fatui member!

It's really amazing how you can almost perfectly describe the characteristics of a character, and what's happening just from the music alone.
great analysis, detailed explanations, accurate picturization. earned my sub dude, keep it going. great work
Thank you!
You’re so right and good catch on the madrigals too that’s absolutely accurate. Really amazing piece
“Playful with a edge of danger” describes this character perfectly describes this character he’s smarter then you and he knows he’s smarter then you and hes basically toying with us for most of the fight
And part way through when the music gets all serious he basically becomes this almost alien form and every atk he does looks like it will absolutely kills us.
Thanks a ton! :)
Its amazing how you described exactly how Tartaglia fights without even seeing how he fights just by listening to the music and how he goes from playing around to getting more serious.
Oh no, i’m in love again. Watched the one analyzing the Fatui and had to come for Tartaglia and next, La Signiora!
"...but it's used to describe a character that is the antithesis of what is holy..."
He was trained in the abyss, which can be considered the opposite of holy.
Childe being cocky is best explained with one of his voicelines during the boss fight. "All you do is run!"
To think that I thought this track was boring and monotonous before, I must have just never actually listened to it.
the part when you talk about shifting is really on point! he basically shifts himself in something that I might call a demon or a monster
the emotions the first fight with tartaglia gives is unforgettable, the way music connects with games mechanics is just *chief kiss*
it feels so good to see someone else noticing all those details I do (I am not a professional musician, but I had may fair share studying music :D)
thank you!! I will definitely watch your other videos
Aw im glad you enjoyed it
The thing that I love about this review is that you are actually spot on with Tartaglia’s entire split persona, when you first meet him, he is made out to act as a friend, alto he himself actually does clearly hint at him self as “not a nice/great guy” and up until the big reveal of what his plans and intentions hold, even goes as far as giving you money, and even treats you to dinner in order to gain your trust and then when you confront him in the golden chamber, that is when his true colors become clear to you, and you get to see just what kind of “monster” he has become, definitely recommend the game, as the storyline is an amazing thing to entangle yourself into.
"This is completely demonic"
The Abyss being the literal underworld: Huh.
