    I don’t own a sanctuary but I work at one that specializes in macaws. I can’t even imagine doing everything on my own 7 days a week. My body gets sore from just 4 days of labor over there. Props to you, you’re impressive. I’m interested in opening up a small scale exotic pet sanctuary one day so these videos are so great.

      I bet, even on your hardest there, you still feel really good though! That's definitely what keeps me going, seeing them happy and thriving gives me joy...and energy to do it all again the next day :P

      I intend to volunteer. Thought I would do the one here in Sydney first then consider ones in Ecuador and stuff. The problem is the animals are so dam cute! The video showed you have to pick up the baby emus and move them. How could I leave such a place after? Maybe I'll do the turtle one cos you don't sit around patting turtles. Also you guys should sign that online petition to ban hunting videos from youtube!

Especially all on your own, does it not feel daunting at times? I love animals and animal care too, but I often feel guilty that I don't give them endless attention. I hope you and your farm are safe during covid- 19, thanks for another great video! 🦜🐕🐎

      Shockingly, aside from "deep clean day", I feel so insanely happy doing it every day. It helps that right now it's my only "job" and so I can dedicate every minute of the day to them. It's therapeutic, seeing them enjoy life each day makes me smile until my face hurts by bedtime. I certainly have bad moments where stress is at a high, but on a regular basis that isn't the case.

      Puma Bear At the parrot sanctuary I work at we have about 200 macaws. The owner of this sanctuary owns 3 businesses to afford the sanctuary costs, which can total to about $250,000 per year. Donations to the sanctuary also help but there are never enough donations to run the place on just that alone. That is why the owner is always running back and forth, working at the sanctuary and then working on her businesses. It seems very stressful, as she never really gets a break. It’s very discouraging as someone who wants to own a sanctuary but also wants to have leisurely time once in a while. I too wonder how Adri affords it and if she found an easier way to manage the financial costs.

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Nope, that all sounds pretty accurate. I previously owned a business that I've tentatively put on pause - partially do to the move but also because corona has now completely done away with it for the time being. Nearly all my funds went straight into the animals. There's no easy way, there's no simply plan to follow. It can vary drastically from one month to the next. I'm never able to help nearly the amount of animals I'd like to and I'm typically putting my needs/wants on the back burner (which isn't a complaint, I'm happy to do it for them).

    Hi!! I know this might not be related to the video, but which pig products do you recommend the most? I have been researching A LOT about raising a pig, since I really want one! I went to see your amazon products list (or whatever they’re called :P) but I saw many products that do the same thing - for example, two different brand beds. I just want to ask which products are your favorite (if for beds, for example, pick one brand that you like better than the other)? For beds, shampoo/toiletries, potty place, toys, because like I said, you put so many different brand things that do the same thing. I hope you understand what I mean! Love your videos, keep up the great work! 💕

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pigs definitely seem to like the cuddle style beds, that they can climb inside of and entirely disappear, the best!
      As far as the bathing products and toys, I do keep a pretty big variety of both and would have trouble picking a favorite. I think the ball that dispenses treats seems to get them moving the most so I like that a lot.

      I only recently, when moving to this new house and then going through this quarantine, stopped working my job. Prior to this I started my own company a few years ago and worked INSANELY hard (14 hours/day, 7 days a week, 360 days a year). I don't buy myself things, I pinch every penny I can. I do the really hard work instead of hiring people. I get creative in reusing items I have rather than buying new. When I HAVE to buy something I find it at thrift stores or second hand. 90% of my income went to my pets and currently I'm using the funds I saved previously while I become more comfortable requesting contributions to further the non profit.

      No specific breed! They're a bunch of mutts for the most part.

    Which state do you live in that allows farm animals? I’m not allowed any farm animals in my area and I’m desperately trying to move elsewhere.

    I doubt you will see this because I'm super late but I'm super interested in doing this one day and I wanted to know what you majored in? Do you have any suggestions on what I should major in if I'm interested in owning a farm sanctuary??

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I am seeing this! I didn't major in anything though I did work in a vet clinic for 7 years. Owning a farm and helping rescue animals was always a passion of mine. Fortunately my sister has degrees in zoology and wildlife preservation and she helps a lot. I would suggest you look to studies like that. Animal husbandry or even Veterinary medicine. That would REALLY come in handy for this kind of thing! I spend soooo much money on vet care. Your school counselor may have some good suggestions also.

    So where do you get all of your animals from? And why do you have emu eggs that are fertile?

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most are owner rehomes and surrenders. Several were strays I found. Some were confiscated due to abuse or neglect/hoarding. I’ve also worked closely with local animal control, other rescues and vet clinics. Any that could be a potential meat source I have purchased from sellers versus seeing them processed for dinner. The emus are a bonded pair and the female laid several eggs this year.

    • @xradelox
      @xradelox 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s so cool that you can do that. I’d be happy just on a small scale to foster for my local shelter! Is there any way to keep the emus from breeding? Seems counter productive to let them bring more animals into the world while you’re trying to save ones that are already here. I’m not picking at you, I just like hearing other people’s ways of handling things so I can get more ideas 😊 Also, have you ever looked into having a spot on your property for someone to park an off grid RV/tiny home/something like that? You wouldn’t believe how many people I see and talk to (including myself) that would LOVE to have a place on a sanctuary to park and pay like $50-$100 rent and be able to help with the chores and the animals. Of course, you’d have to look into the local laws and regulations for that since each area is different. But it’s just an idea 😁 I’m sure you could find someone in a heartbeat who’d want that living situation!

    what’s up with the eggs? most sanctuaries aren’t breeding animals and let the animals eat their eggs to regain the significant calcium loss it takes for them to make them

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      90% of the eggs are boiled and fed back to the animals. I have left them in the coop and they do not eat them, they rot or attract predators.
      I wish people would be a LOT more forgiving and understanding of legitimate rescues doing the best they can. Ive got thick skin, but Ive seen SO many amazing animal rescuers and veterinarians run from their efforts after too much criticism. Its hard, we aren't perfect, but we're trying our a$$es off at all costs.

      Prior to this I started my own company, worked my butt off for years, never bought anything for myself, and still pinch every penny I can when it comes to my own needs/desires. At the moment I'm using what I saved previously..and slowly getting more comfortable asking for contributions to offset my out of pocket costs for the animals.

    Do you take your pigs to like a dog vet or what?

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have a normal small animal vet that also sees certain "exotics" like pigs. However, it's really case by case - some vets will see them and some wont so I always suggest locating youre nearest pig vet before getting one!

    Non profit. How do you live? Must make some money?

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle ปีที่แล้ว

      ...Yes, we're an IRS approved 501c3 legitimate non profit, and unlike most, I dont take any part of the donations as a "salary" or any kind of compensation. In fact, the donations we do get MIGHT cover 30% of the expenses, the rest comes directly from my own bank account. I worked very hard at a business before this, made smart investments, and continue to find ways to bring in income for myself and the animals.

    How can you say you live animals and then exploit them for their periods ☹️

    • @AdriRachelle
      @AdriRachelle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Please tell me which animal you're concerned about. These aren't humans, they don't understand what it means to be on the internet. They know I'm looking at them, interacting with them, giving them attention, and they love it. I NEVER overstimulate them for a video. I very, very rarely use any kind of lighting in my videos because I don't want to stress them out with it, even if it means my video quality goes down. I don't handle or show the animals that are stressed out by me, or don't enjoy my presence, even though people request them frequently. I run a licensed, inspected, non profit animal sanctuary and instead of charging admissions and getting 8 or 9 times the donations I currently take in, I choose to remain a private sanctuary, pay for 90% of their care out of my own pockets, and keep these animals from enduring that stress of being "exploited" to strangers in a zoo-like setting.

      @@AdriRachelle I think this was a criticism of you eating eggs from your hens. I understand there’s no cruel intentions on your behalf, but it’s confusing to see someone claim veganism and eat eggs. Hens benefit greatly from getting the nutrition they lose laying so many eggs by having them fed back to them. Just like us, hens used to only lay about 1-2 eggs per month, and the egg industry has played god with them so much, it’s destroyed their bodies. Please consider feeding the eggs back to the chickens in the future!
