  • This is a video for pilots moving tot he R44 from the R22 or just starting flying in the R44. I hope this helps point out the things that need to be looked for and how to check them.

Thanks for the help. This is exactly what I needed as I begin my R44 Transition from flying turbines. Robinsons are simpler yet still have their own way of doing things. Thanks again!

Thank you for this detailed video!
Stepping up the mast: It explicitly says NOT to step on the side wall of the rear under seat compartments. I therefore assumed that one is indeed supposed to rather stand on the seat cushion (to better distribute one’s weight).
Clutch belt: Thanks for the tip how to turn the belts to inspect. You only inspected the outside of the belts. Shouldn’t one be more concerned with the inside of the belts (the side that is in contact with the sheaves), which you can see on the opposite side?
Alternator: You checked the AC belt. When I am under the aircraft I also check the alternator belt the same way as you did for the AC belt. And I check that the earth cable to the alternator is secure (the cable with the white rubber boot) and that the lug (hiding inside that boot) is not malleable or broken. If that cable, or the belt, goes you end up with an ALT failure. Which is as bad (putting it mildly) as a AC failure because with no ALT you have to switch off the AC anyway to preserve battery power. Out of the non-essential loads to shed in such an emergency, the electric AC fans are probably the biggest electrical loads you have in an R44, besides TPX and landing lights.

Smaller world. I recognized this hanger looking at the office in the back. I did some training in the R44 with Peter and AS350 with Gary in April 2018. Actually flew N344SA. Awesome experience, awesome instructors. Looking forward to my next trip. I realize this was done in 2016,but are you still with CH??

At 40:10, check out how close the stainless steel braided Teflon hose is to the exhaust pipe. Also, the inspector pointed out that there was a small exhaust leak from the band clamp. In the video that leak appears to be pointed at the hose.
These band clamps all seem to leak a bit and have short-ish lives.
I am curious about the lack of heat shielding on the exhaust pipes where other items that are vulnerable pass over them.
Is there a lot of air circulation when the vehicle is in operation and the air flow renders shielding unnecessary?
That hose would be better a bit longer, with a long radius 45 degree end.
I don't know anything about these helicopters. As an older person, though, it is a head scratcher to look at the extensive use of plastic tie straps to hold stuff together.
Coming back to the stainless steel braided Teflon hose (SSBH), these hoses can last a very long time, but they do not tolerate vibration induced chafing. Thus, tie strapping to parts like the intake pipe, which vibrates quite a bit, as opposed to insulated P-clamps and brackets used to be how this kind of routing was done. Over time, without some insulation over the SSBraided hose, say a piece of cheap fuel hose tie wrapped to the SSBH where it is tie strapped to the intake tube seems a better way to do it.
And of course, brackets break and P-clamp insulation deteriorates over time.

Sounds like you mis-spoke about the "telatemp" sticker. They are: Irreversible descending temperature recording labels. The windows will turn irreversibly black when exposed to the rated temperature. Nothing to do with oil leaks.

What I was saying is checking for leaks on the hydro pump. I reference the teletemps and without pause I moved to talking about oil leaks on the hydrolics

Every driver should check their car like this before every engine start including sumping fuel tank. Absolutely ridiculous how much preparation time manufacturer requires to operate their product.
