I haven't listened to any on your whole list...yet! That Traveler album was next for me. Currently on Winterfylleth. I'm digging the Winterfylleth. Mostly their old stuff. Just getting into them. I'll have to check out everything on your list! I like your taste. My list 1- Sig:Ar:Tyr - Citadel of stars 2- Critical Defiance- the search won't fail 3- Deep Purple- =1 4- Magnum- here comes the rain 5- Blue Oyster cult- ghost stories (although most of the album is unreleased stuff from the late 70s, early 80s) 6- High on Fire - cometh the storm 7- Morta Skuld- creation undone That's about where I'm at with my list. Listening to the Cavalera remakes a lot this year. Sentry self titled. Himinbjorg- the fall of Valhalla. Like i said, the newest Winterfylleth. Looking forward to hearing the albums on your list. Cheers Bryce 👍
You're right about the publications not doing much digging when it comes to releases, they mostly just paying service to new albums by already established bands or legacy bands. There might be one or two underground hits that get mentioned but its usually only if theres so much buzz going around it that its basically impossible to ignore. I stopped paying attention to those publications years ago anyways and just quickly glance the lists to basically almost never see anything surprising being mentioned

I'm so glad to finally see a list with Bewitcher's Spellshock on it. If my favorite album of 2024 was based solely upon the number of times I've listened to it, Spellshock would win easily. I still can't stop spinning it.

Top 10 Rock/Metal Albums of 2024 1. Saviors Green Day 2. Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs Alkaline Trio 3. Be Here Now BlackBerry Smoke 4. The Last Will and Testament Opeth 5. Neck Deep Neck Deep 6. Post Human: Next Gen Bring Me the Horizon 7. Songs In a Lost World The Cure 8. Heaven & Hell Sum 41 9. Dark Matter Pearl Jam 10. Highly Irresponsible Better Lovers Only 1 metal album made my top 10. Should only be top 10 rock albums, but I don't do that. I put rock and metal together because they both have guitar bass and drums in the music. Bring Me the Horizon is just a rock band. But this album combines the rock, the pop, the metalcore, and some emo. They basically combined it all together and made a masterpiece. But yeah it was a good year, but i love 2023 more.
Awesome, you have the most unique list I've seen so far, which means you give zero Fs about consensus favorites and follow yr own left hand path. Not that I'm the one to say, but that is truly METAL \../ I've listened to well over 100 metal albums this year and yet six of your albums are new to me (partly because I don't follow black metal as closely), including my old faves Ironflame, who I totally missed their new release. Crazy. I was a big fan ever since I met Andrew when he was still with Brimstone Coven. It was I think Legions of Doom fest in Indiana, and the band had three-part vocal harmonies that were unique -- but I had no idea Andrew could sing lead like that until I finally heard his project -- he played all the instruments himself at least on those first couple albums I believe. Beyond consensus faves like Blood Incantation, Opeth, Crypt Sermon, Pallbearer, Priest (I like 'em all) here's a few more from my lists, mix of heavy metal, doom and mostly thrash/death and prog metal. Neon Nightmare - Faded Dream Early Moods - A Sinner’s Past Ufomammut - Hidden Anciients - Beyond the Reach of the Sun Oranssi Pazuzu - Muuntautuja Iotunn - Kinship Tarot - Glimpse of the Dawn Castle - Evil Remains Hands Of Goro - Hands of Goro Scarecrow - Scarecrow III The Gates Of Slumber - The Gates of Slumber Magmakammer - Before I Burn The Obsessed - Gilded Sorrow Legions Of Doom - The Skull 3 Demon & Eleven Children - Demonic Fascination Sovereign - Altered Realities Fracture - Chaos Alchemy Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God Eternal - Cryptic Lust Cave Sermon - Divine Laughter Siderean - Spilling the Astral Chalice Job For A Cowboy - Moon Healer

Surprised Unto Others didn't make your list.
Meant to give it an honorable mention but to me it’s definitely a step down from their first 2 albums.
@@brycetalksmetal you are right. I was very disappointed by it. I do like a few songs on it.
