  • Sorry for not uploading in a long time!!! This video is why haha. I would not have ever imagined me having to dig into an automatic transmission having ZERO clue what I am doing. With TH-cam and Forums however I was able to get it done.... barely. By the Mercy and Grace of the Lord Jesus I tackled yet another major endeavor and came out on top. I really didn't think it was going to work. My confidence level was below Zero with this one, I almost just got a different transmission but that wouldn't be fun or be a learning experience! Anyhow We will resume with regular scheduled videos Lord willing!

It does take some break in time, but drive it gingerly at first, then it will tell the tale. Mine was an 85 and used dextron II , MERCON. EARLER ONES USED DIFFERENT FLUID.

You need assembly lube, I would use the blue goo. Get a CD from Bad shoe productions by ken collins. It will show you what you are missing.

Those with the needle bearings are torringtons.

Right On! It was a bit rough haha but probably one of the best auto transmissions to work on for a first time.

@@TylerCreatesAbsolutely. One of nice things about working with an old 3 speed. 🙂

If you find any pieces of metal bigger than a piece of rice, it's not good. When you drain it leave the last bit in the panand look for metal in the bottom, and check the filter. Be sure to pay attention to where the filter bolts go,because they are different lengths in some places. Especially in the valve body if you decide to drop that to check for metal. The color of the fluid is important....if brown, that's bad.

Sounds like you did good, but time will tell.hope it lasts. Kudos. Mine took me 2 months to do myself in the winter. Huge puzzle.

Thank ya! I think it should do pretty good all things considered, I didn't really change all that much. Also thank you for all the info!

When it blows in 100 miles buy a CD from ken Collins bad shoe production if that happens. Maybe you'll get lucky and it won't. Good luck.😊

I drove mine for 5000 miles, then drained the pan fluid, which is half of what's in it, then refilled it,

That one planetary looks like it's seen some stuff. I rebuilt the C6 in my truck a few months ago when I put a new engine in it. I put the TCI low drag/full roller kit in it when I did mine. That one clutch pack with the wrong pressure plate looked like the pressure plate for the forward clutch pack if I remember right. My C6 has the N code and it also shifts fine, never had any complaint with it. I have another C6 with the D code servo and I will say that one does have a better shift feel to it 1-2 and especially 2-3 than the N code with the same exact shift kit calibration in both.

Yeah I would have done all that if I had the time and a better place to work on it. Right now though hopefully it should do fine. I kept saying reverse lol I do not know why I didn't realize that's not a thing. It shifts so much better and a lost faster as well.

@@TylerCreates Glad to hear it. They're pretty easy transmissions to work on, I've rebuilt two of them plus an old cast iron FX cruise o matic. Honestly at this point I'd rather do a transmission than an engine.

Buy a harbor freight large transmission jack, as a regular floor jack is difficult to remove with. There's a guy who sells a CD on h9w to rebuild the C- 6 on the ford Forum for like 40.00 on how to rebuild a C-6. I bought one of his CD'sfrom him, and rebuilt it myself. I advise to buy his cd. That is your planetary 3 pinion. You can buy a 4 to replace it online from later transmission to replace it. And it matters what year it is as to what fluid to use in it. All parts inside can be purchased online for your transmission. Replace your brass thrust washers with Torrington roller bearings. The guy calls his company bad shoe productions that sells the rebuild CD. Buy his CD. Ken Collins I think is his name. I WOULD REPLACE THE PUMP, THE COOLER AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER. ALSO ANY OTHER PARTS THAT ARE DAMAGED. I ADDED AN EXTRA TRANSMISSION FILTER that uses a spin on filter on the return line. You need a spring compressor you can make to take those packs apart. I made one myself different from Ken's, but only cost me 5.00 to make. I built mine to be high performance , but if you build it stock, it will be easier. All you need is feeler guage to build it. You can buy different thickness plates online Ken can give you advice if you get his CD. He's acool guy and has been rebuilding C-6's for 40 years.
