5 Rolls Royces and a DUSTY Buick collection in the Appalachian Mountains | Barn Find Hunter - 114

  • Let's go back about six years when Tom met a gentleman named Howard at the Hershey Swap Meet. Howard told Tom all about his unique collection of GM barn finds, so they exchanged contacts in anticipation, one day, to film a Barn Find Hunter episode at his house. Well, that day has finally come! Howard has what could be considered one of the more unique Buick collections in the country, which consists of low-mileage and rare packaged mid-50s Specials, Supers, and Roadmasters. Peppered among the Buicks are five Rolls Royces that caught Tom completely off guard and prove to add substantial value to Howard's eclectic collection.

My wife always marvels at my ability to name the year of an fifty-through-seventies-ish car that still occasionally show up on the road. As a kid, I remember that every year, all of the major players, GM, Ford, and Mopar, as well as some "minor" manufacturers, all came out with new sheet metal and design. You just couldn't stay competitive if you didn't. Maybe the chassis were the same, (the early sixties "x-frame Chevys as a good example,) but the sheet metal had distinctive changes that made each year unique! I miss those days. Today you look at most SUV's, and you can't tell one model year from the next for several years running. They'll make a "major" change every five years or so at best.
BTW, my Dad bought a brand-new 1956 Buick Special, (I was three years old when he got it.) He ordered it with the nail-head V8, but "three on the tree," -- he didn't trust those "new automatics" at that time, and it had the three oval portholes in the front fenders. That was quite a car back then!!

Its to bad they he was able to find a building to show them off to the world, Howard has some beauties I would love to drive, but cannot afford to keep it running although where I live it would be one that everyone would love to see. If I had the funds it would be the Model T to restore from ground up. Yes, I would love to have a Buick Road Master or a RR. One of a kind man just to talk to about each and every car that he has. Love to read a book of his life story about how he came across these automobile's. This Page I need to save just for the enjoyment,

My first car. Purchased in 1966. A 1955 Buick Special 4 door hardtop. $25. 85,000 miles. The nail head 264 CID engine was smooth. Oil came out every 3000 miles barely darker than when I put it in. I hated the oil filter but after being bathed one time I learned.

I have the same sentiment about this amazing gentleman that I have about many others: I don't know if I should admire his taste and effort to preserve history, or if I should be angry at hoarding beautiful cars and leaving them to rust and collect dust. But I do agree that Buick is the most elegant car company.
