    I’m I missing something Marcus Aurelius wasn’t a king but an emperor?

      The "Philosopher King" is a common nickname or label given to Marcus during his reign. It's also the name of the kind of leader that Plato describes in "Republic" as being a wise, just, yet strong leader with a higher sense of civic duty.
