The best thing about apple making base variants with 16gb ram has made MacBooks a lot more value for money. I sincerely hope if they can make base variants with 16gb/512gb , there sales would skyrocket.
Depends what you're using it for. If you're doing heavy multicore workloads OR doing gaming, the 14C chips are an easy recommendation. If you're doing VM's or containers, don't even think twice. For other users, the 12C chips are an easy recommendation as they run most programs at the same speed as the 14C chips. While using less power and heat.
I ordered a Mac Mini with the 14C Pro chip because it was only about 200 bucks more expensive. In a laptop I would stick with the 12C version. It‘s much cheaper, less heat and fan noise and longer battery life, for not so much less performance.
i am originally a Windows user and I really am not a fan of macOS (haven't really tried it though, js from what i've seen) but then I broke my Windows laptop. Since i recently got an iPad for univ, i've been kind of interested with Macbooks (been binge watching ur vids for the past week) and the apple ecosystem. So now I am saving up in hopes that I can get a Macbook Air :))
Definitely temped to save up money to buying a new M4 MacBook. Just torn between the Pro and the Air (fingers crossed). Thank you for the benchmark statistics in comparison to other M chip series.
I am thinking about getting an m3 macbook air with 16gb ram but since my country doesn't have an official apple store, I need wait a moth for thridparty retailers to import...
Will the M4 Air get additional ports ? Will we be able to run Two side monitors With the screen Up ? Thank You Great Video. Looking forward to the M4 MacBook Air
As a computer science and machine learning student, having a powerful and portable device that is also capable of running for a full day without charging is exactly what I'm looking for, and what could be better than the m4 macbook air?... Although the temptation to get the m4 macbook pro before the m4 air comes out is almost winning me over.
Did you say computer science? Then let me tell you something. While the M4 and M4 Pro will have mostly indistinguishable performance at most tasks, the M4 Pro suddenly wakes up and takes no prisoners if you're running containers and VMs. Which, by the way, is the inescapable destiny of anyone going into computer science.
Appreciate the focus on both performance upgrades and power efficiency, balancing these two is always key in tech. Wondering how long we’ll see this level of stability across generations!
I would like to purchase a MacBook laptop before the end of the year. However, after seeing the leaks for the Air I’m wondering if I should get the Air or the pro. 🤔
Upgrading from my MacBook early 2015 which I'm currently watching this video on. Watched your comaprison video of the M4 / M4 Pro / M3 Air and I'm leaning towards the M4 MacBook Pro right now. Pretty excited to upgrade to a new laptop after 9 years haha
Hi Matt, by the end of this year i'm gonna get my hands on a used ipad air 4. I'm getting a good bargain, and I saw reviews which said 4th gen air is just as a good and i won't be missing m1.
As a windows user, I am very excited to make the switch to the MacBook Air M4 in 2025! I've been trying to find information about the M4 chip in the MacBook Air and this video was very informative, thank you.
I have the Macbook Pro 2015 rn it's still working but it's getting really really slow 😅, i am going to pursue my masters and needed a better mac so im really considering the brand new MBP Pro M4 and can't wait to experience the upgrades
The reason I returned my M1 air for MBP in 2021 was the 8gb and 60hz refresh rate. If they solve both of these issues I think the MBA in 2025 is a solid buy!
The RAM is configurable, you can get as much as you want by paying for it. With that said, the minimum base will now be 16GB. I expect the display will remain 60Hz, however. And not the superior mini-LED with ProMotion that the MBP has. On the MBA you're sacrificing these fairly minor things because it's optimized for a different role: maximum battery life and maximum portability through reduced weight and extreme thinness.
okay guys suggest me i have been using macbook pro 2014 mid ( intel one) 16 GB ram and this beast is 10 years old but still works like a BRAND NEW and does my works done effortlessly. i am starting my PG in Jan 2025 and i think its time to upgrade so should i wait for M4 16 gb air that i have to buy while i am in uni in other country or go for M3 right now
I’d consider it if i was upgrading from an m1 to the m4. but from the m3 to the m4 you’re going to find that the difference (in power) is very minimal. unless there’s a redesign (which i doubt) or you got money to that you really don’t need then there’s no reason.
I heard that the keyboard will be on the back of the display and the charging port will be beside the camera inside the shell so you can’t close the lid and charge.
As my MBA M1 is configured with 16 GB of RAM, and i prefer the wedged design, as long there ar no additional benefits like e.g. Minimum storage of 512 GB, extended RAM to 32 GB, better Webcam, Port(s) on right side, 2 external Displays in addition to the main display, probably the possibilty of an M4 Pro CPU, i would rather keep the old one and look for an Mac mini or an MBP as addition to the good old MBA M1. To be honest for the mobile small device the performance is not the key, if i need power than MBP (with Pro or Max), for mobilitythe performance of the M1 is still sufficient (especially if it has 16 GB) if i would have only 8 GB than probably an upgrade would be the case with the M4 generation but for me M5 or M6 will be more likely.
Well, the M3 MBA can support 2 external displays when you close the lid. The M4 (MBP) can support the internal plus 2 externals, so that’s expected on the M4 MBA as well. That aside, I agree with you. My 8GB/512GB M1 MBA is still good enough, probably going to pick up an M4 Mini soon, and wait on the MBA.
Without the integration of a cooling system, you immediately wonder what will be the downside of these more powerful chip sets without a fan or anything to cool all this heat in such a small package?
Hey I’m planning to buy a Macbook Air as I sold my PC but not sure if I’d go for M3 now or wait 5-6 months for M4 to get released and get at the same price as M3 right now?
I want to get Macbook air for my birthday next month, it will be useful for uni. Super happy that they finally start with 16GB RAM from now, considering amazing management of RAM 8 is still a joke nowadays. I just can't decide between M3 256gb or M2 512. What do you think will be the best choice?
Obviously it comes down to how much SSD you're going to end up using. Which we're clueless about because we don't know you. The M3 is only a little bit better in CPU performance so you wouldn't worry so much about that and would happily take 512GB M2 if you download lots of photos, videos, apps, etc. However, the M3 has significant improvement in GPU performance so if you do gaming then that's a big difference. However, gaming will chew through 256GB really fast, you'll be uninstalling and reinstalling often. Or having an external USB drive which is annoying.
I have been deciding for a long time to buy a new Mac. But now I can't decide between MacMini 2 or Macbook AIR M3. Configuration 15" 16GB, 512GB SSD. Unfortunately, there are always some momentary and more important expenses. But my Macbook PRO from 2016 is really talking about switching :)
Sorry if I missed it but is there any news on having space black on the new M4 model. Or upgrading the midnight coating even more? Those would make me wait.
I want to get a new laptop, but I'm not sure if a MacBook or a Windows laptop would be best for me. I need the best portability and battery life I can and the latest intel chips had a great improvement on that regard, and also need a device able to run my workflow Affinity + Archicad + Enscape/D5 I know D5 can't run on mac, but I think it still has the edge on portability and battery life, especially having in consideration performance while unplugged, so I'm conflicted. The other option would be a new M4 mac mini and an iPad Air (For things on the go).
Haha. Apple have a funny way of positioning their products that way, to make decisions very hard, so that if you do have any extra money, you'll step up the ladder and pay more. With the Air15 you're getting a bigger screen, no fan, great battery life, and a design that is almost the paradigm of perfection in what a Laptop should be: ultrathin, ultra-light, ultra-portable, longlasting battery. In my opinion there is no more perfectly sized- and shaped- laptop than the 15" MBA. With the Pro14 you're getting the extra power, mini-LED superior display, ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate, and a hard-to-describe feeling like you have the laptop equivalent of a Bentley or Rolls Royce. The screen is smaller but not as smaller as you think since the aspect ratio favours verticality more than the MBA's aspect ratio. Making it lose surprisingly little space for working on documents or viewing web pages. But actually lose significantly more for watching standard 16:9 aspect ratio video content. Hopefully that will make your choice easier.
Win Snapdragon sales are dangerously disappointing, giving doubts about whether that new platform is even going to make it. The M-chip series is now around its 5th birthday and settled in solid and stable for the long haul. In addition Windows 11 is doubling down on its path toward being a "service subscription" model that spies and tracks you. Even serving you ads right through the operating system. Meanwhile, macOS 15 is doubling down on extreme privacy and security protection and the model of you owning your computer, instead of feeling like you're leasing someone else's property.

Are you EXCITED for the M4 MacBook Air Coming in 2025?
Obviously no doubt .

It would be good to see that but then the MacBook Pro M4 and M4 Pro would then have to have 1TB as the base amount, what again would be great to see
@@MattTalkTech Well the good news is plopping down $200 for just one upgrade is a lot more doable than plopping down $400 for two upgrades.
This will only raise the entry fee into the Apple Park.
