- In this video I scrap a plasma tv for lots of goodies.
I'll go through each board removed and identify it and tell you what it's worth if you choose to sell them to Boardsort.
I also recover copper, brass, aluminum and steel that can be sold to a scrapyard.
I will breakdown what everything is worth, using average scrap prices in the USA.
🔶Here is my video where I show how to scrap relays.

Most plasmas I’ve scrapped actually have way more stuff inside than this one did. They are definitely fun.

Wonderful video as always. I love how you're able to express both the monetary values and the emotional joys of scrapping. I really like how at the end you showed the thin gold finger board. I'm pretty sure even the plasmas have those, and you just missed them. ❤

Hey a quick question. What kind of tent/ canopy do you have for doing your scrapping in? I seen the video the other day of you going in and I need something like that! How long have you had it and does it hold up through wind, rain and snow? Thank you so much sir
@@EricScrapping4Dinidog it’s made by shelter logic. 10x20 is its size.

Pretty important, if you’re cutting open those electrolytic capacitors, wear good gloves. The electrolyte is harmful, especially if you get it in your eyes..
Also, before dismantling the bigger ones, make sure they’re discharged. A 300v charge can stay for a long time in a capacitor, giving you an unpleasant surprise, when your finger bridges the contacts.
You’re most likely to find those high voltage capacitors in the power supply stage of a tv, but in other devices they can crop up anywhere. Microwave ovens can be particularly hazardous, weeks, even months after they’ve been unplugged.
Be careful.
@@duncancremin1708 I know all this, but I appreciate you writing this all. Thank you.
Yes, of course you do, whether learned the hard way, or by someone telling you. But your viewers may not and I hope my comment saves someone a very bad day.
I’ve mentioned it before and I think most people understand. Fortunately most scrap has been unplugged for long periods of time. Not all, but most.
What kind of gloves would you recommend? New to this so didn't know this information
For batteries, capacitors etc, you need chemical resistance, to keep harsh chemicals, mostly acids, away from your skin. For high voltage capacitors, which can retain the ability to shock you for very long periods, it’s best not to touch until you’ve shorted them, using a conductive tool with an insulated handle, such as the jaws of a pliers. Usually there’s nothing to see, but every so often you’ll hear a click and see a blue spark.
I don’t know anything about scrapping, so this end of the business is a revelation to me. I’m a retired repair technician, with history in a tv repair shop and an appliance repair business. Old TVs and computer monitors with glass crt screens need to be treated with respect. The tubes can retain very high voltage and are also under vacuum, so they can throw sharp glass shards at high speed, if they implode.
Great dad fixing your screw driver.
As a newbie, I am not sure if watching your videos is an education or a bad influence. This past week I took apart a fan and a hedge trimmer. My wife wanted to know why I was doing that and I told her that it just may be my new hobby that I am learning from scrapitall. She doesn't say much about the things I do but I could see it in her eye with an OK he has finally gone over the ege. lol

Just picked up a similar tv today. They aren’t worth much as scrap but fun to take apart.
Definitely fun to scrap!
Thanks for the video on plasma TVS. I've had 2 for a while, but have neglected to get to them.
But now I can't wait to get into it. Also, when I take stuff apart and there's a lot of screws for some reason. I always seem to miss one and I have a system for doing it. I go clockwise. And then II check it counterclockwise, and I still Miss A screw. I really like the breakdown of everything. And I really that you price everything out so you could make an affordable opinion. You can ship to Boardsort or if you’re close to Ohio where they are located you can go in person.

Got a couple dozen flat-screen tv's, going to collect the plated boards for a gold recovery experiment. The plasmas are the only ones I'll grab anymore. A lot will have a nice heavy chunk of extruded aluminum in them. Not sure why. Not a heat sink, almost like a counterweight or something. Unless it dissipates heat from the screen?
You can fill a bucket with screws after a few of em....
@@silver_salvage_savage so have you refined gold before?
This one was a little light on the heat sinks, some have huge ones like you mentioned
@scrapitall200 I've done some gold filled jewelry and carat scrap, too. I've yet to do an ewaste recovery. I'm hoarding materials, though. Have 4 or 5 desktops, 2 laptops, and a bunch of cell phones. And then, of course, the TV boards. I'm also collecting up plates and cups that have the gold trim like around the rim. Have a creamer with a plate that are fully plated.
From what ive seen it takes quite a bit and I'd like to get at least a couple grams.

Hello! 👋
Thank you!
Scrap it all
That’s me Lol. Thank you for watching.
Now I`m all caught up with your videos. I have never taken apart a plasma TV ,but I have shot a few with my Rem. 300 RSM (of course I do pick up the remains and bring them home for a proper burial ) LOL. I did however find an old laptop in the closet that seemed broken so I too it apart, kind of a waste of time. Unfortunately I later found out it was my wife`s and apparently it still worked and had some old pictures in the memory......OOPS !! Yah....she was pissed !! This week I scored hundreds of feet of BX cable from a Northern school reno ,total jackpot. Most of it is 14 and 12 g. 2 wire and a bunch of 14 g. 4 wire (never seen 4 wire before ,red ,black ,white and blue wire). Have you done a tutorial on BX cable ? I have a technique to strip it ,but some of the 12 g. stuff is giving me fits ,so I need to do them in 3-4 foot sections. Brother I have a huge job ahead of me ,but I did save some for future wiring projects. Anyway enough of my blathering, thanks for the great videos ,always a treat to watch ,over and over. I have learned a lot from you and your channel ,it`s the best !! Take care James. Sincerely Paul T from the great white North.
Hi Paul.
Oh wow, I bet your wife was quite upset
I’ve not done a video on bx, it can be tricky removing the wire from it. I try to peal one end of the bx, clamping the end of the wire in the vise then pulling on the bx. Sometimes that will work, other times I have to cut it into shorter lengths like you mentioned.
Thank you so much my friend 😁

Thanks for watching buddy
How do you tell what is a peripheral board and what is not.
One thing I’ve done is study Boardsort lists of the different boards they buy.
So most boards are going to fall into one category.
Low grade
Mid grade
Low peripheral
High peripheral
Low telecom
High telecom.
There are obviously other boards on Boardsorts list you’ll see those boards are way different kind of boards, plus mother boards.
Now it’s just a matter of knowing if they are low or high grade. That’s going to be determined by how much components are on the board and if there is any “junk” on the board, like transformers, capacitors etc..
I know it can be confusing but overtime it’ll start to click.
Where did you get those tiny clippers and what are they called please? 13:50 in the video. Tha k you and GOD BLESS!
@@wadechadwick4323 hey buddy. I got those from harbor freight and they are Doyle brand. I love them.
God bless you too
That piece that looks like a screen let me know what it is. I don’t have a way to test yet.
I’ll have to go back and look on my video to see what you’re referring to.
With the board that has all the rca jacks, can you cut the square out instead of pulling it off the board?
Yes that is an option for sure, but then you’ll lose board weight. Guess I’d have to check the numbers to see what will pay more.
Thanks for stopping by my friend.
@@scrapitall200 you're welcome. I just wondered if it would be worth it, after losing it. It would also probably depend on if you're shipping or taking it directly there. For shipping, it would take less space and weight in the box meaning you can ship more higher priced items. I just have no clue if it would be enough to warrant the time and effort.
