This was a really interesting review, I haven't bought Bigger & Badder myself as I've heard it's generally not well designed, but it was great hearing your take on Lotso.
Thank you! Bigger and Badder is definitely one of the less well designed sets, Lotso isn't much fun - you can stop him early game by not Fating him, and then in the late game his Fate deck is incredibly oppressive. Syndrome is relatively well balanced but weirdly complicated, whilst Madam Mim is incredibly strong and hard to beat.
Great review!
Thank you!
I used to hate Lotso when he came out but I got better with him when time move along and he is in my top 5 to play. He is always about discarding a lot of cards and trying to play safe with the fate deck. I have many strategies to address the situation with Lotso to win a lot with him.
I think one of the big things with Lotso is definitely learning your own Fate deck, and working out when best to reduce the Strength of Heroes. I'm glad to hear you enjoy playing him, I don't hear a lot of good things about him, and as I play a lot of two player games, he can be very oppressive to play against!
Sad to say, but Lotso’s definitely my least favorite villain in the game. Playing as him is just too frustrating and not very fun.
If I had to give him one compliment though, it’s definitely that he’s very thematically apt. It’s cool how his Heroes’ strength isn’t their physical might, but their willpower and courage. Something Snapped causes him to lock up Heroes because someone threw away their cards (which he’s naturally going to be upset at). It’s very clever and creative in that regard.
I think I have to agree with you on both parts; he's very thematic, and his cards and Fate deck does feel right for his goal. However, his Fate deck is really punishing (and you can ignore fating him in the early game so you don't get forced to play his Heroes) and his ability to Fate can really drag a game out, or feel bad if you're the one playing him.
