    I know it was three years ago but man i love the music, Great work! I had a Demo ride just last weekend and I'm already getting ready to upgrade, I ride a sprint St but when i took the Thruxton R out for a spin i just fell in love with it.
    Thanks for such a great review ( I understand why you were so crazy )

    Never heard a reviewer so happy with the bike. Another excellent review. Many thanks and having mate as back up also gives another perspective to the bike review. Nice. I want one now.

      My Harley is away for winter. Snow expected soon tho. My brother and myself are both thinking about Thruxton R next year. He's a GSXR1000 fanatic tho. Hopefully this will calm him down a bit and he can appreciate roper biking enjoyment with the fanatical speed

    I was so impressed with this video that shared it with a friend. In an email from him this very morning, here is what he said: "I just finished watching the video. Wow, what a bike. Some of the technology is awesome. If I were a bike rider, that is the one i would like to try. Never mind a Harley, don't think they compare. Those two guys were quite enthused over the bike. I was grinning just listening to them talk. From my friend Don who lives in Maine.

    I've been so undecided on buying a bike until now! I had been looking at this bike amongst others but I hadn't watch a video that would really describe the bike until I watched yours. I've been looking at Harley and the Ducati scrambler. I know they're completely different bikes and that's why I hadn't made up my mind. Glad I came across your channel! Your excitement is off the charts and genuine, gotta love it man. Keep it up sir!!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex Marroquin thank you Alex! As you could probably tell, I bought this bike, well, not this actual bike but a Thruxton R immediately upon return of this one. 4,000 miles and I still love it to bits. Changed a few things and I just love it more and more... check more recent uploads.
      Thank you for watching and for your kind comments sir.
      Tally Bally Ho!

  • @TheLagrangerocket

    Watching your video's are pure joy! What motorcycling is all about. Fun, power, joy! Now I must figure out how to spend twice as much as I was for a Street Twin and get my lovely Wife to agree! (Plus, would have to sell the Street Triple R.)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Tony! Yes, we do have a lot of fun!
      I tend to use the angle of halving the real cost of the bike when discussing the cost with my wife... It seems to just about work... ;-)
      Bigglesworth is getting rid of his street triple R for a Thruxton R as soon as he can afford it... He's had his street triple R for 3 years now, has ridden my thruxton R for the day and is completely besotten... That should tell you what you need to know... :-)
      Thank you for watching and for the comment...
      TBH!

    48,234 views haha Just out standing. I bought the 1200r a couple of weeks ago. For me there is so much to love and like about this bike. Triumph did a great job. I am waiting on parts etc tail tidy bullet fairing , v&h pipes Also very keen to see what the race kit will do. Like a stage 3 cam kit. My guess an extra 7 or so hp. Thank you for the upload. Really enjoyed it. Selfie stick on a public road? haha Yes it was quite however I'm sure the old bill can book you just on this clip alone. Ride safe. Regards from down under. :)

      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure that they would if they didn't already like the video! ;-)
      I have the V&H Pipes on mine, and the tail tidy but not the bullet faring, as the handlebars are 2 inches lower or so, and for the amount of miles I will be doing, it won't be pretty... Although I do love the faring... :-)
      I reckon it will be another 7bhp or so as well...
      Enjoy! I am loving mine. 500 mile service next week! :-)
      Thanks for watching...

    Just test rode a T120 a few days ago.Did around 25 miles and came back with the impression that it was pleasant and comfy with slightly underwhelming front brakes and near non existent rear.Heated grips,lovely looks and grunty engine etc,but somehow it hadn't set my world alight.I'd probably have put a deposit on it anyway but then I was given the keys to a Thruxton R. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! Four miles was enough and the deal was done.At last a replacement for my Ducats 900ss ie which nothing else had since lived up to.Hope my arse doesn't look big on this ,Captain Bumbunctious! ;-)

      Yes, I had the exact same experience. The T120 is a very good bike and fun for what it is, but the Thruxton R is something else... And the R is even better than the standard, really noticeably so! :-)

    Great review. I felt the same way when I rolled the throttle and immediately put the deposit down for it after I returned from the test ride (Diablo Red). This was after test riding 10 bikes (including T120, which I almost purchased before riding Thruxton) and finally feeling excited about one. Thanks for your video reviews. Also, there seems to be a rear passager seat right under the rear "hump."

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vik Mediratta There does! But you need to put on pillion pegs in this country... Also, I think the dual seat would be more comfortable for any pillion, but also useful for touring for luggage...

      Great point! My lady was very adamant about me getting a bike she could accompany me on; however, I couldn't give up the Thuruxton R for the Bonneville T120. I ordered the dual passager seat and passager footpegs. I'm also replacing bulbs for LEDs on indicators. Any other modifications you recommend for the bike? I think the standard exhaust sounds awesome so I don't think I'll change the pipes. Thanks again for your input and reviews

      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vik Mediratta All I have done is put on the knee tank pads. I might change the mirrors for racier style ones, even though the current ones match the style of the bike nicely...
      The Cam upgrade for even more power comes out in the Autumn, so might get that but will depend on how I feel after running the bike in and riding it for a few months... I might not want more...
      I already have the LED indicators...
      Nothing else yet, but never say never!

    Just watched the video and after taking the Thruxton R out last weekend, it could of been me making those comments as everything you said was how I felt about the bike, At the NEC end 2015 I gave the bike 10/10 on every view angle a score I have never given a bike.
    Coming up to 40 years riding this week and owning/riding 70 plus motorcycles I have finally found a bike that I consider perfect, the one thing about the Thruxton you did not mention was how it will always look fantastic even in the future, many bikes from the 70s and 80s look very out of date now, bikes like Ducati 916 was the most beautiful bike in the 90s through to the early 00s but now is also starting to look dated. because the Thruxton looks like a bike from the 60s and looks so sexy now it will remain good looking. as for the BMW R9T which I also considered as a purchase, you need to spend a lot of money to make it sound as nice and even more to make it look any where near as good, (sorry BMW but you do make very ugly bikes these days, good job you have the rich mugs that are happy to buy a badge) and yes I have owned BMWs 2 of them, and never again.
    The Thruxton is not only good looking, fast, very fast, handles superb, those brakes wow, delivers great range for such a small tank almost 90 mpg on a gentle run out (ie when you are riding with slow friends) cheap to service, it is built to a quality I have never seen on a motorcycle post 1970 it is made in Britain with British Steel, not the brittle rubbish from the far east, and you can take it out in the rain (that is not a dig at modern Harley Davidsons) well maybe.
    Did I order one..... you bet, and as for the wife after she rode the street twin and the Thruxton and is now selling 2 of her bikes and looking at buying the T120. WELL DONE TRIUMPH you are on your way to be the best Bike manufacturer in the world at this rate, so how about a 250cc/350cc scrambler to get the new kids on the block on bikes what ever you produce at least it wont be as ugly as the Ducati Scrambler, sorry was that another dig? :-(

      What a marvellous post! It's very nice to hear that my views and feelings are agreed with, even if my delivery does irritate some...
      I agree with all you said, and you are spot on with the fact that as they have built a retro bike so perfectly, it will never age... Nicely put, I hadn't thought of that...
      Thanks for watching and for the excellent comment...

      sorry to tell ya that the bike is made in the far east, Thailand. That's why the price is cheaper than the r9t and norton commander. Dkkbulletsmile Personally it doesn't matter where it's made. They are still supervised by Triumph and assembled in the UK and also have to pass all the final tests in the UK. Ultimately mine is finished to such a high standard, it really doesn't matter...
      It's a pity you are still waiting for your cowl, there a quite a few around in the UK. I'm surprised you haven't... I'm also somewhat surprised by Triumph and their last of preparedness for the ordering onslaught that has occurred since these bikes were made... :-)

      @CaptainRambunctious  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scotty G the street cup is lighter and also good fun but not in the same league when it comes to power but you can still have a lot of fun on the cup and also get yourself into trouble but as it is lighter, you’re also more likely to save any situation you may get yourself into!

Thoroughly enjoying watching your videos (hard to stay on schedule for going to work, in fact!) understood about the Cup vs. Thruxton, but as I'm only 5'7" I think the smaller bike is definitely the One. I find it heartening that you think it's good for 500 mile days. I'm looking for a modern compliment to what's been my daily rider, a 72 CB750 with a similar seat/handlebar set up. I've ridden the Thrux R and fell madly, but the logical angel on my shoulder won't stop telling me to consider something like the T120 for long ride comfort. But you're swaying me to shoo logic and go with my gut.

    I've booked a test next week, after testing the R9T (and the R1200R) this week. To me, it will need to be really fun to ride to top the R9T and really good to top the brilliance of the R1200R. You obviously like the Thruxton R, would you use it as a daily commuter, pillion bike, and occasional weekends hill runs/track days? 90% or more of my riding is bayside at 40-50 mph. By the way, you guys do a very nice job with these vids.

      +Arizona RE .......The Thruxton and the R are up on compression from the T120 (T120 10:1 and Thruxton's 11:1) and the cam has got to be different, because of where the TQ peaks in the rev-range... 3,100rpm for T120 and 4,900rpm for the Thruxton)
      The final drive ratio is different (R has a smaller front sprocket and a larger rear than the T120 and non R) which will give better acceleration on its own....Though the non-R Thruxton has the same final drive ratio as the T120...

      +Arizona RE T120 engine a totally different kettle of fish... But still an excellent thing, and maybe will lean towards being more reliable due to greater tolerances?

      Captain Rambunctious
      ......Yes mate, I have no problem with that..The bump in compression with a different ignition/Air fuel map would more or less explain the HP difference but not the TQ peaks being so far apart, that would have to be due to the cam.....If I find out I'm wrong I'll let you know, but I really cant see it. I'll be at the dealer on Monday and I'll check out the two bikes cam part numbers just to make sure.

    Captain, On the Triumph online configurator it shows a English and US version of the Vance & Hines exhaust, the description on the US version says that it has removable DB killers :) Do you know anything about them or have you heard them fitted? :) :)

    good review sir. did you see the matte black one? i cannot decide between which color. is the silver just too damn stunning to pass up?

      Personally I love the red ones, but the silver is stunning in the metal...photos don't do it justice. Very sparkly. Very nice.

      Yes sir it is. I really would like to see this in a comparison with the Ducati Sport Classic. That was originally my dream bike but triumph has followed it up with this. Sport Classic run about the same price minus all the tech on this. And they are hard to find.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      davidakadaz Neighbour I think that the sport classic was quite heavy and unreliable, but not sure... I've never ridden one so I wouldn't like to cast aspersions...

    Hi Captain, just got my Thruxton R yesterday having seen your excellent video. Absolutely loving it. Just one question, where do you get the union jack gloves? Are they the Triumph ones, they only appear on the Triumph USA website.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you like it! Although I'm not sure anyone won't like it...
      I got my gloves a couple of years ago when they were normal Triumph stock... Yes, very difficult to find now... There are a few dealers in the USA that still have some but with limited sizes.... If you can find them, buy them. But they don't have any armour, they are just leather gloves so if you are after more protective gloves, there are some union jack gloves around with armour, just not these ones...
      Hope this helps and enjoy your new steed! :-)

  • @crispyphoenix01
    @crispyphoenix01 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK now you've got me wondering,I'm booked in for the T120 test ride , but I may have to get out on the thruster as well now. By the way what intercom system do you use, have you reviewed it ?

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +crispyphoenix01 I would definitely ride both. The Thruxton isn't as practical or comfortable as the T120, but I found the Thruxton to be such a much better bike, that the comfort and luggage capacity side of it didn't matter... You can always get a bench seat for it as well for when you want to throw luggage on it! :-)
      I have the Cardo Sena built into my helmet (a schubert S2) and bigglesworth uses a Cardo G9? I think it is anyway, he might add to this comment if he sees it...
      Hope this helps!
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! :-) Good luck on your test rides! I'd definitely ride the T120 first...

      +Captain Rambunctious Normally it's a Cardo Sho-1 (essentially a G9x) but it's off for repairs at the moment. I was using a Cardo Q2. Worked very well indeed.

    Bloody gorgeous bike. I had a good, long look at one while I was in the process of buying my Sprint, but the desire to do serious touring made the decision for me in the end.
    Are you pulled up beside Ivinghoe Beacon during the walk around? I keep recognising places in your videos, haha.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I am! I now use Ivinghoe Beacon as my main walk around place. It's easy to park any bike there and also very nice views... :-)
      Ah, I will do serious touring on mine, but I will just strap big bags to it with the flatter dual seat... Amazing fun bike. :-)

    FYI Regarding your remark that there is no brake lever adjustment... It looks like the brake lever is adjustable just turn the knob on the lever....... Nice looking bike...I would go with the optional racing cowl/windhsield

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I spotted that in the next ride! After all, I now own one! ;-)
      The issue I had with the cowl (and I agree it looks amazing) is that the clip ons are lower, so I have to keep it normal as I wouldn't be able to ride it as long and as far as I do...

    The Norton Dominator ss is the bike to drool over but is way out of reach for most of us, But this new Thruxton is as doolworthy has more going for it and a more realistic price for us meer mortals to get our hands on... Love it...

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aaron I agree! I have loved the Norton for years, but I never liked the engine with pushrods, made me worry too much about loss of oil, and yes, too expensive... This makes the Thruxton R the perfect bike for those who love classic twins but want modern reliability and electronics... :-)
      Thanks for watching and for your very accurate comment...
