Kanaka Ikaika Kira Race 5

Kira race 5 went down at Hawaii kai since forecast was to gnarly for Kailua. Ironically the winds were pretty calm in the morning until the start and then it blew like crazy as we had to first head upwind to china walls before making a turn around the yellow buoy to head down wind. About 30 minutes into the downwind run the wind died again and it was a struggle bus to catch any bumps the rest of the race. White out conditions made it hard to navigate a good line around Diamond head, I think I did a good job of that and I heard a lot of guys saying they lost their way and ended up too far inside near Kahala. Once I got outside of Diamond Head I tried to stay right on the surfline to get some push and then I paid the price by getting caught too far inside and one snuck up on me. This was my first time going over the falls in a one man and it scared the crap out of me! As I went over I was prepared to feel the leash pull on my leg and it did for a couple seconds and then it released! I was like oh crap I hope the boat does not get caught by another wave and it's gone! Luckily I came up and it was only a few feet away. I jumped back on and was able to finish the race with a decent time of 1:54.42

Great video! Do you use a waterproof cover for your Insta360 X3 or do you find it survives the occasional Huli with no issue?

haha yeah I was like OHHHHH CRAAAPPP! I saw my buddy behind me get smashed and then I looked up and it got me as well! I completely forgot about my hat and glasses until I got moving again. Thank you!
