    KNM Stord, captained by later vice admiral Skule Storheill, played an active part in the sinking of the Scharnhorst, firing eight torpedos towards her, at least some hitting it. Stord came close enough to the Scharnhorst the crew on the Duke of York thought they were going to collide.
    Stord was mentioned in dispatches, and admiral Fraser said to the Evening News that «The Norwegian destroyer «Stord» carried out the most daring attack of the whole action».

    1:42 AcTuAlLy JiNgLeS, firing your torps early like that can be a good strategy in a submarine because you can ping the ships that get spotted later while the torps are already way closer to them, and have them home towards them. However, in this situation it was not that good of an idea because they probably aren't very long range and there was only a destroyer and a submarine there.

    Re Norway, at the start of the WWII it had the world's 4th largest merchant marine. Have you seen the size of intra-war era merchant ships? They're not fishing trawlers. This included 260 oil tankers, 150 of which were chartered by Britain at the end of 1939 and most of the remaining picked up after Germany invaded Norway in '40. Norway was responsible for delivering about 40% of Britain's oil products in 1940 and '41. Good luck fighting the Battle of Britain, bunkering the merchant fleet, and fuelling the lorries that were tasked to deal with the mayhem caused by merchant ships shifting from ports in the east such as London to the west with a lot less oil. Yes, Norway's fleet was comprised mostly of ships built in UK, Sweden, Denmark, US, and elsewhere, but Norway had its own builders as well in places like Fredrikstad, Grimstad, Bergen, and Oslo. Ships like _Marstenen_ at 1832 gt, _Ariadne_ at 2029 gt, _Bajamar_ at 2757 gt, _Bra-Kar_ at 3778 gt, and _Dageid_ at 6361 gt. These are just some of the Norwegian-built ships that were part of its WWII merchant fleet, chartered by Britain and administrated by Nortraship. Norway's whale catchers, typically its largest fishing vessels, were about 250 gt. And if you take a look at Sweden's shipbuilders of the era, vessels of 10,000+ gt were constructed. And both Norway and Sweden built their own destroyers during the intra-war period.

    It was the cruiser that saw when Bismark and Prince Eugen on May 19 1941 tried to get unnoticed to the North Atlantic to chase ship convoys .

    Here's a few notes for HNoMS Stord:
    The Stord started life as a Royal Navy S-class destroyer. Built by the J. Samuel White shipyard in East Cowes in the Isle of Wight on February 25, 1942 as HMS Success, by the time she was completed on March 6, 1943, she was already transferred to the Royal Norwegian Navy, and was named for Stord Island in southern Norway.
    For most of the war, Stord served with the Home Fleet, as part of the 23rd Destroyer Flotilla.
    She gained fame during the Battle of North Cape, where she went in to as close to 400 yards to fire its torpedoes against the German battleship (or battlecruiser, depending on the person) Scharnhorst. After the battle, Admiral Bruce Fraser sent the following message to the Admiralty:
    "... Please convey to the C-in-C Norwegian Navy. Stord played a very daring role in the fight and I am very proud of her..."
    Later on, Stord participated in the invasion of Normandy.
    Norway bought Stord outright in 1946 and served in the Royal Norwegian Navy until she was retired and scrapped in 1959.

    • @jcorbett9620
      @jcorbett9620 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wasn't it the Stord who sent a (ALDIS?) message to the Scharnhorst saing "I am a Norwegen ship" as she launched her torpedoes, just so that the German crew knew that Norway was hitting back for being occupied?

      @kristoffermangila ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hmmm. Almost no sentence on the gameplay of the subs was correct. "sub on periscope depth" - nope, fully on surface. "you ping before you shoot your torps" - nope, also the torps the first sub player sent at the beginning is "pre-torping" (Trenlass, Flambass); it makes sense if your torps reload after 38 seconds (Gato) or 58 like here.

    Technically there are 10 tiers with DDs, superships are their own tier, not counted as T10s, seeing as you can't see one as a T8 unless you fail-div with a T9 nor can you div up with a supership with a T9.
    Also the NM may have popped DCP to counter the sub's pings, but remember, according to WG "DCP is not overstressed even before needing to use it for countering pings, and still isn't after they added that feature"

    Actually Jingles, the Austro-Hungarian Navy was quite a formidable force. It just ceased to exist after 1918.
    In 1914 they had 4 dreadnaughts (one is in game the Viribus Unitis), 9 pre dreadnaughts, 3 armored cruises, 5 protected cruisers, 3 coastal defense ships, 18 destroyers, lots of smaller ships like patrolboats and torpedo boats, 6 submarines.
    Since they did not need to defend any foreign colonies, they only needed to project power in the adriatic sea, and for that it was more then enough.
    There is one destroyer where you can leave AA guns active at all times. The Kamikaze, its surface detectability is at around 2.5km, and its AA defense is at 1.5km, So you have been spotted long before the guns fire. Yes guns is a bit of a stretch here, it is more sone a sailor throwing angry glances and rocks at the planes.

      The air detectability is 2.5, 2.5 surface detectabilit would be ridiculous.

    Well...
    apart from the anemic torps. I mean... "oh, that BB has 25k health left and I'm gonna land 4 torps on him. Should be plenty enough"....and then the guy survives with 6k
    Torp hits should be fun. Not sure about these ones
