  • Gold panning in Alaska. First time out and we had a blast using the Gold Nugget Bucket and sluice box. Panned for about 2 hours and you'll be excited to see what we walked away with.

    Fun video. I started my prospecting life at Bertha a couple decades ago.
    I agree with the other comments - those are chunks of crystallized pyrite. Squeeze them in some pliers and I bet they shatter.
    Bertha is a great place but I’d suggest working the dry, bench material alongside the creek. I find much more gold there than in the river itself. In the river you’ll only find “float gold” - gold that came down with the last floodwaters. If you work the bench areas you’ll find ancient deposits no one has ever touched.
