I didn't really think so. It was convincing enough, in that he got the inflections technically right. But I could tell he was having to work at it, that it definitely wasn't natural for him. With Holland, forget about it, it sounded like he was born talking Southern. Pattinson needs more practice before he gets to that point though.
@@johns.8220 of course you'd praise Spider-Man over sparkly vampire. Give Robert Pattinson a break, he did great and was honestly a really convincing part of this movie.

Bold of all of you to not think that him in endgame wasn’t serious. I don’t feel so good mr stark.. from that scene alone I knew he was capable of acting serious
This is an amazing movie. I really enjoyed Arvin’s character arc throughout the movie as he deals with his desperate father and his depressed sister. I also liked the direction style, giving me a Tarantino-Coen Brothers vibe.
I literally just watched this last night. Honestly, I liked it. It definitely was NOT what I was expecting but pretty good! Also, ROBERT PATTINSON’S acting?? Amazing in my opinion
the narrator definitely shares crucial information when the girl hangs herself showing that she had changed her mind on committing suicide but ends up slipping and dying, us knowing this information and it not being shared with the other characters gives a perspective on how god punishes those who commit suicide and before her death she had decided not to go through with it
Patinson refused the use of voice coach and learned the southern accent all by ear. That's some dedication and we'll just have to wait for The Batman now.
He should of taken the coach, as a southerner myself I can say his accent was horrid. He sounded like a northerner mocking a southern accent. Like Charlie said, he sounded cartoonish. He was accentuating it just a little too much. Tom Holland’s accent was damn good though. He sounded like someone from the backwoods.
@@cooliodiablo6117 I'm from Bulgaria and american accents are not familiar to me at all. I've watched the film yesterday and yeah...in some scenes he sounded very cartoonish and I agree with you.
coolio diablo I think that helped to single him out as a bad character from the start tho. We know he seemed off so we automatically didn’t like him. I know the accent was bad but I actually think it helped the movie.
So right after I watched the movie I looked up articles to see if people were talking about Robert Pattinson's accent and apparently he like didn't let anyone know what accent he was going to use until they started rolling and then he whipped out the prepubescent daddy and the director's like ugh that's fuckin gross keep that in.
And the accent is actually pretty accurate to. He's doing an appalachian accent. It's gonna sound weird to anyone outside of the appalachians. It sucks that some people on twitter are giving him flak when he had the most accurate accent in the film.
I am being humble when I am telling you that I am the most powerful strongest coolest smartest most famous greatest funniest TH-camr of all time! That's the reason I have multiple girlfriends and I show them off on my channel all the time! Bye bye iikg
Just watched the movie yesterday, was really impressed by Tom Holland acting in the movie as he portrays a completely dark character compared to what we have seen before.
Fun fact: Robert Pattinson made his accent himself and no one knew what it was gonna sound like until they started filming. He didn’t use a dialect coach either
i think it was the exact oppposite actually, they wanted author to be the narrator so that they could have an excuse for the narration which filled the holes in the storytelling that director couldn't.
@@e.k.5145 I mean, you’re probably right, I kinda just said that bc I don’t think that many people would read my comment if I simply wrote “the narrator was the author of the book” lol

so we have dudley killing his wife alice, spider man killing batman and the winter soldier, and pennywise getting traumatized by his time in the war. very moist movie.
Fun fact: Southern accents are just slowed drawn out British accents. If you take southern accents and speed them up, they sound British and if you take British accents and slow them down, they sound southern. Southern accent are the closest accent to British accent and somewhere I read said that British accents USED to be more similar to southern accents than what they are now
Charlie, the narrator (other than the fact that he wrote the book where the movie is based from) actually made climactic scenes more meaningful. He's almost like the voice in each character's head that gives you backstories that fuels the scene. He also tells you what the character is thinking at the moment. One of my favorite scenes is a great example of an excellent application of narration: The scene when this woman in the driver's seat looking at Tom Holland through the rear view mirror while her husband was at back of the trunk preparing for murder. The narrator explained that in a split second the wife thought of running away with Holland and start a new life with him. And that she thinks he's too young but she could try to make it work. Her acting was great and all but no one in the audience would ever seen that she wanted to drive away and plan a whole new life ahead of her at that very intense moment.
I realised how old I am when the warning about girlfriends breaking up with you and fantasising about an actor was because of Tom Holland and not Robert Pattinson being in the movie
The narrator is actually Donald Ray Pollock, the author of the book TDATT was based on. He was welcomed aboard and hand-picked the lines that he wrote with thematic importance.
A noticed the only “Christian” who truly seemed to know God’s salvation was Lenora and she was so easily manipulated. I get that she was vulnerable but idk how she fell for that preachers bs. Almost all the “Christians” didn’t seem to actually know their own religion very well and cherry picked the parts that either were culturally relevant or beneficial to them. I wasn’t sure if the movie was anti religious or a commentary for Christians. A lot of Christians don’t seem to really follow what God says and I kept wondering if that was the message.
Well his grandma and the original preacher, the father was good until his wife's death and his ptsd drove him insane. Also sidenote people forget that the reason people have such blind faith in bad preachers or preists is because there are alot of great ones out there that have good impact in people's lives.
sometimes lol well his dad seemed more bent on his own interest (wife) then Gods plan but yeah you have point, there were a couple more good ones but for the most part the movie seemed to show what not do as a Christian.
I think the message is that no matter how many times you go to church or praise or worship God, he will always protect those who do good. Thats why the preachers who always went to church and praised God had a crappy life, and arvin who didn’t believe in God yet did the righteous thing survived a prick preacher, a corrupt cop, and a serial killer with some might say “unrealistic” luck.
Lady J. Yeah people went too hard on him and Kristen Stewart bc they hated Twilight, when in reality, the source material was the problem, not the actors. God damn hate mobs.
I think the narrator was actually pretty cool. Specifically the lenora scenes. Not finna spoil anything but those who know know. Bill Skargårds performance shouldnt be overlooked either. That man killed it
I know I’m late but I’m a southerner who grew up near the mountains and Robert Pattinson has a true Appalachian Accent in the movie and I am super impressed
@Paperclip it's a fine movie and i don't regret watching it, i just don't think it's as good a Charlie says. He really struggled to find a flaw with it. 6.5/10 imo.
Charlie went into this blind, while you probably read up on a lot of promotional stuff and built up a lot of expectations about the movie that probably negatively affected your experience.
GamingPriests my gf who read the book didnt like the movie. She said it was too rushed and didnt get into the heads of the characters as well given the movie medium
There was some scenes when the narrator worked perfectly. Like in this scene when he narrated one of the characters changing mind at the last second which added way more to the drama (don't want to spoil anything, those who watched know what I'm talking about)
@@Mandm3455 Hello fellow Alabamian Anyway, his accent seemed pretty alright to my ears. Could pass for an Appalachia drawl. He definitely sounded more Southern that Tom, but his wasn't bad either.

Did anyone else catch the foreshadowing about the shotgun in the final showdown?

the narrator definitely shares crucial information when the girl hangs herself showing that she had changed her mind on committing suicide but ends up slipping and dying, us knowing this information and it not being shared with the other characters gives a perspective on how god punishes those who commit suicide and before her death she had decided not to go through with it

When you're so British you're also good at southern accents.
Fr even Dudley had a good accent
habibidagod Dudley 😹😹😹😹😹😹 lov how THATS the only role he’s known for
Linguistically, they have a lot of similarities surprisingly
More so than other American accents
Fun fact: Southern accents are just slowed drawn out British accents. If you take southern accents and speed them up, they sound British and if you take British accents and slow them down, they sound southern.
Southern accent are the closest accent to British accent and somewhere I read said that British accents USED to be more similar to southern accents than what they are now
Tziporah I heard that too... I wonder were the American accent even came from though?

Hi Charlie I love you man I was depressed and your the reason I’m not anymore thank you so much
Charlie, the narrator (other than the fact that he wrote the book where the movie is based from) actually made climactic scenes more meaningful.
Charlie you should see Good Time with Robert Pattinson. It’s his best role and the movie is outstanding.
This movie is like John Steinbeck meets Quinton Tarantino.
The multiple plot lines were written so tightly I was impressed. Many movies don’t pull that off successfully
Arvin’s grandmother was the perfect example of a good religious person
the message is nothing.... shit happens in life and some people fight through them like the tom hollands character
