Did The Mayambula Male Lions Take Over The Sweni Mega Lion Pride?

  • Nobody truly knows where the three Sweni Pride males came from. They gained control of the Sweni Pride in 2019 after ousting the two older Sweni Males, who moved farther north and took over the 'N'wanetsi Lion Pride.
The three new males were extremely productive, producing many offspring. The pride deserved to be called Mega Pride. The Pride was considered one of the most successful Lion Prides in Kruger National Park.
Their area stretched from the H6 in the north to Nkaya Pan in the south, as well as along the S126 in the west, an area frequented by buffalo, wildebeest, and zebra, indicating that food was ample and water was always available.
The six young Mayambula Male Lion coalition is descended from the Mayambula Lion Pride in the Timbavati and was fathered by two Mbiri males, Shaka and Zig Zak Scar, offspring of the renowned Matimba’s. The six brothers originally controlled the area around Bobbejaankrans and started to go south-east to Muzandzeni and Shimangwaneni, then east to Welverdiend.
They began to explore the area further east and were frequently seen on the H1-3 in the Sweni Pride area.
GAME DRIVE ETIQUETTE - RULES (SANParks):
    - When you come across a sighting, slowly pull over on the side of the road closest to the animal, but keep a safe distance and turn OFF your engine
    - If there are animals in the road, immediately stop at least 20 m from them
    - The lane furthest from the sighting should NEVER be blocked, so that others can pass if they want to
    - Don’t linger longer than a few minutes at a sighting, so that others can view it too
    - Never go off the designated roads
    - Never climb out of your vehicle during a drive, or hang out of your car windows or sunroof
    - Don’t hoot or blare loud music
    - Avoid driving into vegetation, as this could damage the environment or kill small animals
    - During night drives, never shine a spotlight directly in animals’ eyes
    - Never make noise to get animals to move, stand up or otherwise react for pictures
    - Respect the rangers, and always comply with their requests or instructions

Sounds like the 3 huge Sweni just walked or ran away 🤔that would surely be a 'better' outcome than them dying. these 6 are more in number so have the upper hand..thanks for the update n i sure hope that 1 or 2 lionesses were able to escape with the cubs- that's the wild sad part 🦁🦁🦁

This is the prefered outcome. Fresh genetics from an amazing bloodline (Ximpoko male from mothers side) and the Mayambula males are only 5-6 years old (born 2018-2019). They can protect the Sweni pride for years to come and they have the numbers and confidence to do it.

The oldest Mayambulas were small cubs in early 2019, they're barely 5yo if at all.

From what i have gathered The6 mayambula are dominant over sweni mega pride 20 + lions
As far northern western Satara all the way Northern Manyeleti H7 as far as S36 junction around Bobbejankrans was eastern part of fathers territory in the past when when Mbiris with the skorro pride and moved futher west to birmingham breakaway near orpen.

So this must have been a decent take over? Meaning not much blood shed? I always hope for these kind of take overs. These females must be an awesome pride playing it smart and knowing how to handle these situations. Also I have ask before but no one has answered or did but was not 100. Does the lioness have offspring from different males meaning they can have different fathers in the same litter? You know like domestic cats can have out of the same litter have different dads. I wonder do they as well?
If so, that means it's really hard to say who the fathers are, but they surely know if they are the father or not? A whole Lotta questions I have. 😂
That's amazing please keep us posted on this situation. I'm glad they didn't take over Casper's pride the Satara pride. Thank you for the information. It's greatly appreciated with respect.

So what happened to the 3 other lions why did they not fire I ratter them not to fire and run with as many possible so that way no one gets killed I hope that was the case I don't like this part of there life it's so 😭;😭sad but then you do have some prides that don't run and fitr I rather a peace take over can you imagine being in this situations and having to leave but they said they were older it's like when a lion gets old they are not able to hunt and they rather nature take it' courses so let it get eaten alive I think in a situation like the park should come in and put the animal down not to let it suffer but that's my opinion I'm sure these people that do agree and I'm sure there's people that don't I'll stick to my own if you hear anything please let me know Lions have it tough from the moment it takes its first breath in the world wish things could be different

@@ElizabethCarrero-vb9if well you are talking about a wild animal. A lot of times when we think put them down, they miraculously recover so that's not the best thing to do in some cases. With kruger having a huge area and there is I think 1800 just in kuger!! So the thing with nature taking its coarse we have had lions for thousands of years and it's always a coalition younger, wiser, healthier, bigger or better. That is how ita always been if we go messing with things 9 out of 10 times we screw up. I would rather know that a lion was taking by another Lion then by human hands.

@@buffiesilver well no let me be more specific TB my beloved S8 I'm sure you saw he was suffering so he is a very good example of what really happened there I'm not going to go into that cuz again I have my opinion but if you have an animal with TB that's barely walking barely making it I think that animal should be put down quietly another example and I'm sure you know this case with the lion that was blind he was just going in circles well they put him down either dad or put him in the sanctuary I would have liked that better then this line get eaten alive by hyenas cause hes blind so again it depends on the situation with animal maybe you didn't understand exactly what i was saying how about years ago about the cub that was paralyzed I'm sure you know about that one I mean they keep putting it all over the internet but instead I think it probably didn't actually of course but it was suffering I prefer if they would have taken it to a sanctuary if I had a sanctuary I would have wanted to take him in 100 percent so to me again depends on the situation with the animal thanks have a nive evening

Pride takeovers happen all the time. Its part of lion dynamics. The three Sweni Pride males were getting old, and new young males coming in could sire some new cubs, especially with the young females in the pride that were fathered by the old pride males, securing the Sweni pride's legacy for many generations.
Also note that Kruger Park is huge; it is an area comparable to the size of Wales in the UK, and less than one percent of the area can be reached by road. You are not allowed to drive off-road or use any drones, so you are very lucky to observe lions only when they come close to the roads.
