When I was little there were plenty times we used powdered milk. It wasn't like the real thing so to speak but it helped with bowls of cereal and in my mom's coffee. I also grew up with beans on toast never knowing it was a British meal till I was an adult. I loved it.
Wow, that's such a great memory! Powdered milk definitely helped in tough times, and beans on toast is one of those meals that’s simple but so comforting. It's funny how some things feel so familiar, even without knowing their full history.
I’ve heard so many stories about how good that government cheese and peanut butter were! It’s amazing how simple things like that left such lasting memories. Thanks for sharing! 😊
That’s a great memory. Many families had to get creative with limited resources back then. It really highlights how resourceful people were in the past.
Totally understand! Powdered milk was more common in some areas and families back then, but not everyone used it. Love hearing your memories.thanks for sharing ❤
Absolutely! In the video, I just meant to show that oatmeal and homemade bread were simple, affordable options people often relied on. It wasn’t so much a hardship, more of an example of everyday simplicity. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I wish they still offered government commodities. That stuff was awesome - especially the cheese and the peanut butter!

I believe they may have the wrong decade, I never used powdered milk in the 1970's maybe during the depression but not the 70's ❤
