Can’t tell you how long it’s taking me to come across this video. I had an off idle hesitation, forever figure it out. I only came across it when I realized my needle was getting stuck and not delivering fuel to the carb

This video really helped me discover that my needle was stuck. Been chasing this issue for a very long time. Thanks a bunch for the idea!!!

I have a Street Demon carburetor that I took apart and that little check valve fell out, I couldn't find a diagram anywhere showing the teardown of the carburetor and how that needle valve went in! I was pretty sure it went in point facing down, but your video showed me that is the case definitely! It's a different carburetor but same concept for the squirter and needle valve, so thanks for making this video and clarifying that for me!

Haha, rebuilding a hp street 650, and had the same issue. Separated the main body, looked down and there was one laying on the table.

Thanks for the video and just to add one more “not to do”; hadn’t run my 55 third for about 3 months and quickly determined the accelerator pump was not functioning. Took the bowl off and by trying to blow some carb cleaner through the port (with jets removed) I realized the valve was stuck. Tried a lot more cleaner but that just blew back, then tried compressed air and got the same. So I loaded the top port with carb cleaner and let it sit overnight. Then tried more cleaner from below again and nothing so tried compressed air again and wound up sending the valve into orbit, never to be seen again🤬. Fortunately I had a rebuilding kit from another Holly carb and the valve was there so it all had a good ending. Moral is be very careful with the compressed air!!!!

And something else that can screw you up with that needle that goes under the squirter is sometimes if you turn the carburetor upside down when it's not on the vehicle it can stick up in the squirter head and then the gas will only dribble instead of spray it's basically a one-way valve so your accelerator pump can actually work any diaphragm pump requires a check

    Solid video man. Good job!

I had a problem with it. It was froze up in there not allowing the fuel to go thru. I have the carburetor apart for a rebuild. I needed up taking a propane torch to the carb body and heating it up to expand the aluminum. I then hit it with air blast on metering block side port and was able to blow it out. Thank God that worked otherwise this carb body would be junk.

Carbs pissed me off for years then more u learn more i love my holley .by the way i had the same hesitation issue.i figured paper gaskets on nozzle leaked!holley makes aluminum gaskets now no more leaks no hesitation

It keeps air from being sucked back in through the squirter when the accelerator goes back to normal position. This would cause you to only get a little fuel and a lot of air.

I've been having tons of issues with an RX7 I got with a Holley carb and pulled the primary squirter off. Found out there was NO CHECK VALVE under it

Some have a small check ball and weight. Ball goes in first and weight on top. Lose those and good luck trying to find one the right size. You'll need a master parts list cause there's like 4 different sizes as well as different materials for the balls, not to mention different length and weight measures for the weights.
Lucky You didn't drop it down in the throat. When sh!t like that happens, the throttle plates like to open when You're just about to pull the carb off. Lock the throttle forward with a rubber band or something if You have to.
This is not as good as forgetting to put the pinion return spring in a starter when rebuilding it... LOL

Is removing the needle, paired with a power valve block off, an old school trick? I picked up a car, with three 1460 carbs. All set up the same, bigger primary jets, power valve plugged, and no check needle in the squirter.

Does the pump needle you speak of go in both squirters on a double pumper ?

I don't recall on the secondary but I would think it would have that same as the primary squirter

Any ideas if that doesn't come out when you turn it upside down?? I get fuel to the bowls but nothing from squirter. Took it off thinking it was gunked up and the pin doesn't fall out.

    • @meridian208
      @meridian208  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I would say it's probably junked up or stuck somehow and blocking fuel flow. You'll have to get it out by spraying carb cleaner in there to loosen it or use some other tool to try and fish it out of there.

@@meridian208 thanks for the quick reply. Yep, trying to break down the build up right now

I'm having the same issue on a 950 I've Frankensteined into an e85 carb. Guess I should have gotten all of the fuel out last fall when I put the car up for winter. Carb cleaner and compressed air haven't worked. Hmmm...

Do any ever have 2 ball bearings?
