Yes...absolutely amazing!!!! definitely one of the best jazz pianist/pianist around. what really separates her from others is that she is so exciting to watch, with her emotions, facial expressions and her energy is just unmatched...she actually cries during one performance, i think its "A Place to Be" ...love it... With mentors and inspirations like oscar peterson and chick corea and ahmad.....she is definitely in a class by herself..
Hiromi displays her genius taking the piano to its potential in every aspect and more - as a lyrical instrument, in modal poetry, as percussion, as an electronic ensemble, rhythmic orchestral canvas... within and beyond its perceived limits, but always in tune with the poetics and swing of what she is playing!
Just another one of Hiromi's pieces that will always be with me. Love this live performance! And I still listen to her Spiral - SACD. My god how time flies...
The amazing thing about Hiromi is that her left hand is doing one thing, her right hand is doing another, her left foot doing something else and her right foot is doing something different. Meanwhile, she is weaving an intricate rhythm with her mouth, whilst the band melts flawlessly into the flow of the music that is before us. Truly magical stuff.
Hiromi said many times, I try to give not technique and tones but energy, feelings and heart and that is exactly what I get and absorb from the audience. I hope that Hiromi as well as a bunch of talented artists will survive this globally organized killing education, culture, social contacts and witch hunt without Live concerts.
It was in an interview! “It wasn’t until 2011, after I listened to [Japanese jazz artist] Hiromi Uehara that I started trying to make my own music.” -Snail's House
Wouahouuuuuu! Quelle intro' !
After a while you can just tell both who is playing and who wrote it. You can hear at that time there was Chick Corea's influence but now she just has her own. A lot of US radio "jazz beards" fault the percussive power but she loves that even though she has complete command of the dynamic range. She can flip key styles in four bars. Amazing, original and lovely musical force.
That separates Hiromi from others. People talk about her virtuosic technique, but all the songs are written by herself. She is a great composer/arranger as well...
Confession: I've probably watched this video more than 50 times. This performance speaks directly to my soul. It is perfect in every way.
Agree!

what separates her for me is also her way of playing, its like she incorporates so much joy and freedom into her rhythms
Amazing so amazing!
やはりひろみさんは、天才なんて生やさしいものではない。地上に舞い降りた神ですよ。
that drumer is like a flowing river in all this
hes king in a band with a goddess
The essence of music and emotions.... Hiromi is giving us a lesson of music and being alive, being truthful...
Brilliant. This is music. How it's structured, how it's executed and how it's explored. That's it and that's all.
Nothing more need be said. Well put. Thank you David!!
