I have never been, seeing all my favorite skater's, growing up... watching LOVE in it's hay day, I felt so connected with it. I love it, I miss it and I've never been, but seeing Stevie, Khalis and Bam too RIP LOVE ... I was so inspired and fell in love with a place I had never been.
Kalis is the man. I met him a bunch of times as a kid, and he always stopped and hung out. Always down to talk and connect with people. It made you feel like you were a part of what was happening back then. I think that's why people still care about him so much.
The disdain in the man's face seeing all that granite just sitting, and for what to stop people from skating...The time and money Philly spent to get rid of that for it to just go sit and rot. Big ups to Kalis for keeping it going and shining the light!!! ONE LOVE, KEEP IT BURNING!!!
I can’t say that I was ever a fan of Kalis before this. I could never identify with his scene or the street culture that went with it. But damn if this episode didn’t blow me away. Kalis has remained true to his roots and kept his integrity without compromising to the modern corporate skate industry. He worked outside of industry hubs to create and support his own people. And he hasn’t even felt the pressure to dress like a normal 47 year old. He style hasn’t changed at all but he’s matured into a great man full of generosity, respect and wisdom❤🙏
His Epicly Later'd episode is one of the best. Truly shows how passionate he is about skating, and that he's just a skate rat at heart. I'll always root for Kalis.
@@prevailwithme Dill is washed as fuck, trying to convince kids he's cool cause he used to take tonnes of drugs while ripping off other peoples art. Kalis is comes across way more sincere.
Kalis is a boss. My first job was working at Salvation Army in Grand Rapids and he rolled in one day in an Escalade and dropped off HEAPS of clothes, shoes, etc. Like brand new DC shoes. Just tons of stuff. I kept a pair of his JK7S that say protoype on the inside.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned more about Kalis and have appreciated his love for skateboarding. I was too young to understand what he meant to Philly and guys like Stevie when I first picked up a skateboard, but he’s still that dude anyone can look up to. Also has one of the best 360 flips.
The best part about growing up skating in the late 90's/early 2000's era, was having role models like kalis, stevie, reynolds, ellington and pj ladd give us motivation to keep skating close to our hearts 25 years later. I get the same motivation to skate watching this as I did in 2002. Mad respect Kalis!
It's great that Kalis gets to create the park of his dreams for the locals to shred and get a taste of some of the most legendary pieces of concrete in skating...I'd like to believe that Josh has been thinking about doing this for a very long time or even if he's hasn't just to be where he is in his skate career and to still be shredding and still living his dream of skating at his age is inspirational...You can see when he's looking at those slabs of concrete that changed his life forever and I can see the tears forming in his eyes bc he has so much love, respect and gratitude to LP and PHILTHADELPH so this is just a beautiful thing to see a person use the fortunes in life and give back to the community they come from because he wants to provide these groms with their local spot and allow them to skate anytime, all the time and see what GNARLY skate rats come out of there and become the future of this lifestyle and art that we all love so much...Can you imagine the talent that's going to most def come out of this park that IM SURE will be frequented by Josh and the homies so SOME SERIOUS SESSIONS are gonna go down there...MUCH RESPECT TO THE HOMIE FOR LIVING HIS LIFE HOW HE WANTS and MUCH HOMIE LOVE from someone who'd been watching you shred since the mid-late 90's and SHRED YOU HAVE O.G!!! 👏👏👏 sending PROSPEROUS!! and SUCCESSFILLED!! Kalis is the man. I'm not sure if there's another pro that does as much for skaters, the everyday dude at the spot, than him.. I got the same LOVE symbol on my forearm that he has tatted as well. A tribute to one of the greatest street skateboarders ever.
I designed a street park that was world famous in the 1990s. Someone had said in Transworld that it was the best park in the world. I lived there 15 hours a day when I was younger and a few people who would go on to become pros came up at that park. I moved away and got a phone call that it had been torn out. I actually pulled over to the side of the road and started crying. I wish so bad I could've went and grabbed a couple things from it, and some chunks of concrete. I have a part of the Berlin wall, but not of my own skate park. If I would've had even a weeks warning, I could've grabbed a flight. It hurt so much.
Wow, I didn’t see this being my favorite episode but damn, there is so much I respect about Kalis to the CORE. Dude stays true to his roots and heart and continues to inspire the current and future generations through handing down his trades to the industry. LEGEND 🙌🏾
Kalis is so sick. So many guys from his era ruined their careers in one way or another so it’s nice to see him doing well and he has always kept skating as his main focus.
I remember they had all those slabs at fdr at first and we starting takin em theres a couple the old benchs in the parking lot still and theyre still amazingly smooth. Sucks to see them all just rottin somewhere deep in Philthy Philly

I know the feeling. We had a slab spot. It was special to me because I taught both of my sons how to skate there. When they bulldozed it to build an apartment complex, I went there every night collecting chunks of concrete that I took back to my house. I still have a bunch. It’s sentimental lol

Josh Kalis always seemed like one of the realest dudes. Like he’d give you the shirt off his back or something. Skateboarding culture as we know it has benefited so much from the contributions of this seemingly humble guy and his friends. Josh played no small part in saving the legendary Stevie Williams from a life of alcoholism and the streets and God knows what else. He probably wouldn’t even be alive if it weren’t for Josh. I’m so glad to see Josh is still “out there” doing well for himself and for others as always.
