With De’Aaron Fox seemingly on his way out of Sacramento, it got me thinking about the past. Kings fans have certainly been here before. Star players don’t stick around.
Also, for the sake of this video, I’m just arbitrarily determining what a star player is for Sacramento, but I don’t think anyone local will disagree with me. For example, Chris Webber, a star player. Harrison Barnes and Corliss Williamson, not so much. Aging Mike Bibby. I’ll allow it. Also, the Nik Stauskas trade will get its own video down the road.
There are 23 times the Sacramento Kings have traded a player who could be considered a star. The results are mixed.
The only time deals have worked out was when Sacramento was getting a proven star back, even if that star was disgruntled or threatened to not report. Chris Webber, Metta Sandiford-Artest, Mike Bibby, Brad Miller, Mitch Richmond.
When it comes to receiving draft picks or prospects, Sacramento botches things, almost famously so. The return on DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Martin, Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, and Kenny Smith was a combined nothing.
The jury is still out on the Tyrese Haliburton deal, but considering the Pacers have reached the Eastern Conference Finals while the Kings haven’t won a playoff series and are now actively shopping De’Aaron Fox, while it’s not looking good.
Speaking of Fox, if the Sacramento front office is going to trade, they need to get a legit star in return because history shows they will waste any draft picks, fail to develop any prospects, or turn around and trade any veterans.
Without further ado, going backward in time, here’s what happened every time the Sacramento Kings have traded a star player…

The Oakland A's of the NBA. My Kings is a farm system, we build stars and trade them away. Monte McNair needs to be fired

Is there anything about the city of Sacramento you like? I haven't heard you say anything nice about it in the videos I've seen

I don't think you know how Sabonis plays or where his value is.Sabonis can fit into just about any style and no GM has ever had plans to build around him. And EVERYBODY knew Fox was going to ask a trade when he was vague about it when asked after we made the playoffs.. Cousins had a strong start and the pelicans went on one of the best runs of the season afterwards while the Kings immediately had a better record than they ever did with Boogie? As a Kings fan, you seem more like you pay attention to the media than the game. How's that Mike Brown take going?

You have flexed on an interim coach bump for a team that's still out of the playoffs and lied about what happened after the Kings traded Cousins (the team went 8-17 the rest of the season and finished with a worse record the following year). If "everybody" knew Fox was going to ask for a trade, you trade him and not Haliburton. And the Pacers literally traded Sabonis for the very reason I mention with a belief Myles Turner is a more plug-and-play big. The only firm offers for Sabonis came from the Kings, Wizards, and maybe the Raptors. That tells you all you need to know.
You are everything wrong about Sacramento sports in a single comment. Refusing to acknowledge the truth, desperately clinging to hope that does not exist, and clueless on history. Dude, don't be a caricature of naive Sacramento fan. Blink twice if Ranadive is holding you hostage.
