Having lived in many places that were built in the 1800's and early 1900's, as well as in places in some countries where electric power can be sketchy, I suggest buying a "UPS" (uninterruptible power supply) for your modem/router. A really good one costs around $150 USD and they jump into action immediately when power is lost - so quickly that you may not even notice that the house power is off. They aren't meant to run indefinitely nor to run your entire house, but they are great for allowing you to complete a task and saviing/closing out properly, and also can be used to charge your phone in case of a prolonged outage from a natural event like a storm. Too late for your birthday but if you are an extremely good girl maybe Santa will bring you one?

Number One Rule of apartment living is always rent a unit on the top floor. If you don't, you'll be subjected to every crash, bang, and thump from upstairs neighbors. Regarding the water leak - take photos of the leak and any damage caused by it. Put everything in writing. Don't call - always email. If you have an onsite management company, I would talk to the head leasing agent and then to the home office to get the door fixed. Review your lease and determine what steps you can take if this is not fixed in a timely fashion. Water damage can lead to mold. I would remind management that it's best to remediate the situation now instead of exposing you to potential health issues, etc. Good luck

100% agree with you about the top floor - even if it means climbing staircases!

I don't know what it is about apartments built in like 2017-2020, but I moved into an apartment that was supposedly built like 3 years ago... there are already cracks in the wall, the door frames are crooked, you can hear every little noise outside. We're on the second floor, but if anyone even walks by we can hear their entire conversation. The bedroom door literally won't shut because the frame is crooked. And it's supposedly a "luxury apartment" that we pay $2,300 a month for. Crazy!

Interesting question. Checking with upstairs and downstairs residents could be helpful. Sometimes maintenance people will share their frustrations with ongoing problems in casual conversations, especially if they are working on them at the time. Asking managerial office staff why this would happen in such a new building and if this has been an ongoing problem maybe they might contact the appropriate parties for an inspection because it might be an issue the builder needs to resolve and therefore no longer a maintenance headache. Even if they don't share much info .... if inspectors show up later it kind of answers that question. Information that they knew they had an ongoing issue and rented it to you could be useful as leverage in discussions on moving to another unit, lease issues, or if you ever have to seek some kind of legal relief, or any issues that may pop up.. Just some thoughts.

DFW and Love are always no less than $40 to airport just a heads up! I used to schedule them for work and they will always be there in 2 or 3 mins. early and I also lived right by DFW and it was never less than $40 for an 8 min ride bc of all the fees. Safe travels!

Hoping you have a good time with friends and enjoy all the wedding activities. What is going on with that leak? Another work order? They never completed the first one to fix the leak! How do you feel about buttons? I am sure you don't want to do this unless it becomes necessary and I am pretty sure they don't want to deal with it but there is this thing called small claims court. They differ by jurisdiction but no attorney required, costs maybe a little north of one hundred dollars, claim limits around 20K. While your actual damages might be minimal they also usually have authority over rental repair disputes. Since they have failed to remedy the situation this increases their liability for damages. Also, the real damage for leaks are usually structural so the owners of the property incur the most actual damage. It is usually not hard to find the actual owners of a property and I don't think they would be very happy to find out that the team they employ to manage their investment property does not take the very real, long term structural ramifications of water damage to their investment seriously. A couple things you could mention ... if you like buttons? LOL! Have you talked with the residents above and below you? Any problems? Anytime you do a small job like the wallpaper you don't have to pay anyone ... so it is like paying yourself. Whatcha think? Video worthy ... I think so. I was hoping you would mention it while packing ... Safety Pins! No wardrobe malfunctions. LOL!
