I really like this phone. is it available in the UK?
I'm struggling to decide on the Mate 9 or the LG G6. bearing in mind i'm in to photography and like the idea of the larger screen and my LG Nexus 5x dying in just 6 months with the boot loop issue.
Use mate 9 for a year and it is amazing,beast. Every other smartphone is small for me and only Huawei mate 20 pro can be my next.
Is there any news on when this will be released in the UK? I hear rumour three will get first dibs on it ?

Carl Kahler My mate 9 speakers are just as loud if not louder than my Nexus 6p. the bottom speaker is louder though and easily blocked by your fingers when holding the phone

***** not asking you. How could you know what phone is better if you havent tryed them both out. People always think that sony's are not good but they are actually extremly we build abd durable.
+Purple Alpha well , I own the Mate 9 , and my buddy has the XZ and iPhone SE , but the speed is miles faster on my phone , whether it's launching the phone dialer or playing Asphalt , the mate 9 is at least twice as fast than the XZ , ( BTW his phone is not old , he had bought it only a week and half before I bought the Mate 9 )
Sony fked up this year, you can always go back to them next year. Loved my z3 and z5 premium but the x line is really bad vs the competition. Held both the note 7, xperia xz and v20 this year and the xz is really not what i expected my Sony to be like
The only thing Sony gives now better than others is nothing. Before it was great camera and waterproof but other companies caught up .my last phone was a Z3, waterproof failed, sony said fk u so i had to buy a new phone which i chose an Honor 8 because budget (only had the Z3 for 2 years so...), looking at hardware and everything the Mate 9 is better. The xperia XZ seems like a Z3 but with an updated SoC which isnt good enough cause the Z3 wasnt anything stellar
XZ for me. Haven't owned one but I think it would be better than Mate 9 in terms of camera and video quality. Kinda disappointed with my 2 days old Mate 9. Everything is good except for the camera and charging time. It takes about 2.5 hours from 10% to full. Camera is a hit or miss. Missed my Galaxy S6 :(

the only thing holding me not to buy it is the fact that how long will the performance of the hardware and software last, samsung devices provide you with the same performance for atleast a year. Do you think mate 9 will start being crappy in a month maybe?

Don't buy this if you want camera and video quality. It will disappoint you. Coming from a galaxy s6 user :(
This has way better cameras than the S7 and ofc way better performance, Huawei devices in general last much longer than Samsungs and remain smooth even after a long time, Huawei said it has done algorithms and incorporated machine learning to make the device just as fast as when bought even after 18 months.

Phone cameras perform below average on auto in lowlight, as the sensor & chip cannot come to conclusion on how long to hold the shutter and there is only so much light the small lens can take in, instead is programmed to compensate it with raising the ISO. This review is incomplete without evaluating the lowlight performance on manual

Yes, you're right he made a fleetingly vague reference to the pro mode, and not the low light performance, speed and noise levels at that mode, which is what I was talking about. The sample is too low res to see detail. Some electronic stores are touting this one as the best camera phone in the market, so low light performance is key. Will check Pocketnow. Arun Raj yes the Low light performance is weak. Probably due to the f2.2 lens. Hard to get good Low light shots with that.
motocokeable yes it is weak at the moment but some reviewers have got updates that fixed low light performance. I have the mate 9 but didn't get that update

If my LG G3 wasn't serving me perfectly fine or I had 700€ just lying around, I'd get this in a hearbeat. Ticks all the check boxes I have when it comes to phones.

Pym_Ultron _Vision problem is that you can't let anyone see the Mate 9 Pro because there will be those people who will think it's a cheap Chinese ripoff of Samsung.
I think that's probably why Huawei made the Porsche Design Mate 9. Because let's be honest, people will be more likely to not laugh at your S7 Edge look-alike with a Porsche branding rather than an "unknown to mainstream" branding on the Pro.
Still, the Mate 9 is a wonderful phone. The only thing I don't like about the phone is the camera when shooting video, which looks just awful (which is surprising and sad when considering how excellent photos look). And I think the P9 styling looks better.
Samuel Chattergoon I have the P9 and it does look better. But me and my friend (who is also a tech geek) were talking about Huawei and the mate 9 pro and we were saying Huawei is going the right way and we think the Pro is slightly better then the S7 edge, as in battery and camera

You do realize you cannot see 2k, nor 4k on smaller than 40 inch screen? It's a gimmick.

You breezed over and completely missed out the nightmare of having to set up various permissions for every single App you install. If you don't do this you may well be wondering why you arent receiving notifications from social media apps. Added to this is the problem of trying to get Notifications set up for each app you install. The EMUI 5 software is not Android. Alhough HUAWEI are keen to say it is based on Android 7 for the chance to increase their sales. This is far from Android. And you may well get problems with the Font size changing on its own on Web Browsers like Androids Google Chrome. It is a brilliant phone but be careful if it doesnt come with Android installed

i had it for a day, it was the worst day for me.
Don't get me wrong, the thing is powerful, it's quick, it's good, But it has 2 major flaws.
for such an expensive phone, the LCD sucks greatly, the colors are too cold and lifeless, plus i can see softness everywhere, it's not crisp at 5.9" diagonal, i can tell!!
also the camera is very bad in mid to low light, specially the front facing camera, it's as good as some camera from a 200$ smartphone. it's crap!!
other than that, the software is fine, the performance is great. But they went soooo much on the cheap side with the LCD, that's annoying. I have an iPhone 4, an ipad mini 2, and had a Nexus 5 too, all of THEM with LCD panels, and they all look better than the Mate 9's screen, stay away from that phone.
