I live in the neighborhood where Dostoevsky lived and wrote about in his novels, many of the streets have returned to their original names. The specific buildings are easy to identify by his descriptions. It is actually a very nice area to live in, with great schools, shopping restaurants, pubs, drama theaters and walking distance to many of the best museums, concert halls in the world. I am an American who has lived here 21 years and has seen much more of Russia starting in 1976 to now than the girl who creates these videos and hates Russia, getting rich off denigrating Russia she has not even seen. It is actually a very good place to live with low taxes, low cost of living, the free university, free medical care, long paid vacations, 3 years paid family leave, very easy to start a business, a great deal of personal freedom. She is too young to know what the west did the ex-Soviet union after 1991, when the US forced the weak president to very rapidly privatizing the vast resources and state assets of the USSR by giving all the wealth of the country to a criminal class who became instant billionaires and the rest of the population lost all security, savings, jobs, and had nothing after living all their lives with security, and good services. It was a major shock, about 10 times worse than the US Great Depression. Much of the money ended up in London or NYC after the worst of the oligarchs were owed by US and UK with instant citizenship if they brought their new wealth with them.
The 1990s were very traumatic times for the country but only after 2000 want the corruption and control by the oligarchs tackled and by 200q was the fastest growing in the world every year until 2008 then grew again at a slower pace from then on, despite the intense economy war being waged against it by the US that wanted it broken up and assets claimed by the US. The propaganda heard hourly in the US that has been preparing for war against Russia and her allies is outrageous. More than half the US population lives more limited less free lives than Russians now, with little or no debt, more free speech, far better access to culture and education, clean safe parks, lower crime, police who do not kill people but prefer to de-escalate situations. She says her life is not as good as her fellow students in the US college she attended, free for 2 semesters but did not see the slums just blocks away in every city in the US, the hundreds of thousands of homeless, and the majority in hopeless debt.
She also has seen almost none of Russia. Her own city is lagging behind in restoration and updating because but a lot of money is going into infrastructure improvement and she expects it to be like other countries which are not under attack and had to rebuild everything after the 90s. The USSR was much better than what the 90s deteriorated to but every day it gets better here. Many cities with better management are doing very well. She should spend time in them to see if her imagination of poor condition fits reality. But it is very profitable to be slagging Russia, between NED funding and TH-cam paying thousands of dollars in ad revenue per video, she already makes more than most in the US.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Russia, and not only the most popular cities, and I must say that you are wonderful people, I felt safe, I loved it, I have seen cities and countryside, dachas, I liked the Soviet contrast that still lasts today in many places, and finally I became very tired of the mindless conflict between east and west. Whilst there may be a lot of problems with things it is great to hear that university education can be accessible to those who have an aptititude for it...it's not a fair system completely of course because it should be for everyone, but in a country which does not have too many resources it is good to know.

It’s the little details in your videos that are so interesting and allow us to share your experiences there, like the students demanding a refund because of the smelly meat,I can just imagine it ;)

@Jake Johansson In the US they'd demand a refund because their 32oz T-Bone is fractionally overdone.

I just found your channel yesterday and I’m on a binge of all your videos! I’m Norwegian and study Russian and Easter-European History and Politics, and your videos has probably been just as enlightening as my courses but a lot funnier, sarcasm is an universal language😂 and with fewer balding professors😂

Gosh, it sucks that you're just a hop and a skip from Japan, yet the university couldn't find Japanese lecturers.
Subbed - it's especially interesting to hear a perspective from the Far East as I'd like to visit Russia, but I'd be more likely to build it into a Japan trip.
