I hate reviewers when they compare using benchmarks and video editing, like are you a reviewer or video-editor , most of us don't care about video editing
The ability to connect 2 additional screens will be my core reason for choosing the pro m4. Yes it’s significantly more $ but worth it for the additional ports and be able to use all 3 screens for workspace. Thanks so much for this great comparison. Really helpful.
Just ordered an 14" M4 Pro coming from base model M2 Air (8GB/256GB). My workflow isn't that demanding but the 8GB has become an annoyance whenever I do something more intensive. Was thinking of M3 air 16gb/512gb, but it would be kind of a too boring upgrade and I like the SD card-slot (for photography) and the hdmi-out (for presentations). Also minor thing: usb-c charging from both sides of the laptop. It's my main and only computer which I use for work, so saving a few hunderd over the years doesn't really make a difference. 24GB RAM feels pretty future proof as well.
With or without nano texture? I also have a base m2 air. But i need a faster machine. I also want to upgrade to the 14 inch m4 pro. But I cannot decide on the Display
@@thejailbreakchannel I went for the regular display as the laptop was way cheaper on Amazon than at the Apple store, but Amazon didn't offer the nano texture option. I haven't seen nanotexture in person and I work with text alot so I was also a bit hesitant because of that.
Thanks for an awesome comparison. Your review has exactly the test I needed which is a MacBook Air M3 vs. a Mac Mini M4, specifically the GPU ML and Neural Engine Comparisons! Thank you very much!
The difference being the number of displays. To qualify as TB4 the ports on the MacBook Air the would need to support more displays, which the M3 SoC can't, hence it's only labeled as USB 4. Which means it can still do up to 40 Gb/s. OTOH, the vanilla M4 _can_ support a display on each port on the Mini and MBP, hence those ports are labeled TB4.
I'm using MBA M1 512gb, and always running out of space due to many download stuff, and I'm gonna need to replace it soon, so it either I get a customised 1tb M3 MBA, or wait for the 1tb M4 MBA. In your professional opinion, do you really think Apple will release a M4 MacBook Air in early 2025?
MacBook Air M3 with 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD will be cheaper and better option than MacBook Air M4 as usually newer one comes with hefty price. You could do a lot with bigger RAM and less price. I just purchased mine from Micro Center for $1500. I use ProCut and it run smoothly with the 24GB RAM and 1TB good storage.
Super helpful - this is definitely the most data driven video I've seen on this topic so far. All of the other similar videos basically focus on "vibes" and don't actually have any quantitative data to cut through the vauge Apple marketing
Should I get a m4 Mac mini or m4 MacBook Air when it comes out? This would be my first Mac and I had an iPad if it helps. Any recommendations anyone????
@ yeah it should, but having an iPad in between makes it more debatable. As well as is a keyboard, screen and battery worth that much more and the overall utility of a MacBook.
When choosing between a Mac mini and a MacBook Air, consider your mobility needs and workflow: The Mac mini offers several advantages: it has a fan for more consistent performance, allows you to select your own monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and is typically more cost-effective. However, it's strictly a desktop solution. If you can confidently complete all your tasks using an iPad when away from home, the Mac mini could be an excellent choice. On the other hand, the MacBook Air provides ultimate flexibility. Its portability means you can work from anywhere and easily transition to a desktop setup by connecting external peripherals. If you anticipate needing to use specialized software, perform demanding tasks, or run applications with limited iPad functionality, the MacBook Air becomes the more practical option. Personally, I opted for a MacBook Air because my work requires coding and using software that either isn't available on iPad or is significantly limited in its mobile version. The key is to honestly assess your work requirements and choose the device that best supports your full range of computing needs.
As much as some people may choose the Mac mini, because of it's cheap price, it's not really portable, and you might need to spend extra money for a monitor, which are quite expensive I think. So, I think a M4 MacBook Air when it comes out it the perfect choice! I have an M3 MacBook Air, which I am using right now to type this comment.
MacBook Air M3 with 24GB RAM are on sale now will be better option than M4 with lesser RAM. The M3 with 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD are running for $1500 at Micro center.
I went from the 15 inch M2 AIr to the Base M4 Pro macbook pro with the Trade In Program and it was very much worth it since upgrading RAM on the AIR was a lot while 24gb ram is default on the Pro version
I think as much as I want the best ie M4 Pro MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air is all I really need - and it's quite a lot lighter. The word is an M4 MacBook Air will be out in the next few months, so agreed - I will wait for that. Hopefully the screen will be a bit better, and some extra ports - all of which would be nice, but really - not a deal-breaker.
