I was always taught that this was portulaca and was a weed to be pulled and discarded.
Last year, I learned it was actually purslane!
It grows everywhere in my raised gardens and in my large potted veggie plants. I just leave it growing with the parsley, thyme, corn and tomatoes until it gets large.
I saved some large fat stems and made refrigerated bread and butter pickles with them. They are crispy and great!
I have some roughly-chopped purslane dehydrating now to preserve it.
I love this plant and it's pretty flowers. Grows awesomely in Zone 9a! 😊

It's nice to see another fan of purslane! It's just now appearing in my garden in Oregon's Willamette Valley. It likes the hot weather, lol. I like it chopped up in yogurt, with a little mint and wild sumac spice. It's great in so many ways, though. You've go a nice patch of it, for sure! Enjoy your harvest! :D

You're absolutely right! Thank you for showing the plant. I've found a similar plant in the Mediterranean, tasted it and it was amazing, the taste and the metabolic effect. It contains the very metabolic compounds I lack (genetic/ metabolic causes): Noradrenaline, dopamine, L-dopa. (!) The minute I found out, I started thinking that eating such nutritious plants was expected, and that my genes are simply adopted to a previous abundance of wild greens in our diet as well as pure fresh water. Remove those and my genes don't work properly!

Gardeners use caution when deciding to grow purslane , it may be ok in a small garden or raised beds , but in field planting , purslane grows fast , if you rototill it or hoe it ,each piece reroots and makes a new plant spreading it . If you let it mature each plant will have 1000`s of tiny seeds . When it goes to seed it is hard to control from then on . It takes all the fun out of hobby gardening . I went from a 3 acre garden to a 1/2 acre ,and work harder in my 1/2 acre than the full 3 acre garden pre-purslane.

@@ExpeditionHomestead I think purslane is a tasty, healthy vegetable which makes a great change from the ones available in most stores. But if I'd never tried it before, and someone told me it was a "superfood", I would be foolish to trust that person's recommendation. "Superfood" is a term that food marketers use to spread misinformation and confuse customers that they can fix their diets by eating one supposedly 'special' food. Surely we should resist adopting the language of the people who are paid to lie to us, at least when it comes to health topics?

@@ExpeditionHomestead @Expedition Homestead here's the first paragraph on Wikipedia, which seems like an accurate summary to me: "Superfood is a marketing term for food claimed to confer health benefits resulting from an exceptional nutrient density. The term is not commonly used by experts, dietitians and nutrition scientists, most of whom dispute that particular foods have the health benefits claimed by their advocates".
And yes, I realise its very common to throw around misleading terms and overhype nutritional figures on the internet.
