Awake is very personal to Jin. He's always struggled with Impostor Syndrome (feeling that you don't belong, don't deserve your accomplishments and aren't worthy of the praise you receive). He had no background or interest in music when he was scouted for his looks and he felt (feels?) inferior to the other members (the six flowers whose petals are able to reach the sky) but he still wants to do his best to catch up and keep up with them. It seems unfathomable that someone as talented as him would feel like that but it just goes to show that they're simply human too. They're very honest even about their darker thoughts and feelings and I think it's that sincerity that we as an audience can feel in their music and relate to. Jin has said that he makes himself smile by making others smile and that's why if you watch their non-musical content, like their variety show Run BTS for example, Jin is often the funny guy, the class clown if you will. He's even nicknamed The Real/Secret Maknae(youngest) of the group and it's so true. 😂 But he's also said that it's different when it comes to his music which is where he gets his feelings out. That's why you'll find that his songs are often quite sad or dark; unless they're love letters to ARMY of course. 😉 💜

In the song he says he holds the six flowers (BTS) in his hands. Even if he cannot touch the sky like the petals😢😢( that part touches me) he is still going to run on to do his best to keep up with them. Jin, being the oldest in age of the group never lets his hierarchy status interfere with his interaction with his members. That shows his humbleness. Even RM being the leader of BTS understand Jin's status in the hierachy (Korean custom) Although Jin acts as the goofy one to make others laugh. 💜💜🌹🌹BORAHAE

This was Jin's first solo, and.. while he unfortunately didn't write the lyrics- he and J-hope composed the song. BangPD wrote the first two lines of lyrics and Namjoon/RM wrote the rest. Now, just because RM did most of the writing doesn't mean these lyrics are not in a sense from Jin's own mouth. RM has mentioned in his live streams when he reviews the album/talks with us about the process of writing and making the album.. that when he is put in charge of writing solo songs for the other members he tends to look at the theme they're going for and then talk to that member. So while Jin didn't write it himself, I'm sure RM used words and thoughts from Jin to make this beautiful song. He did the same thing with Junkook's Begin, he talked to him and a lot of the lyrics were from JK directly. Back then Jin wasn't comfortable writing on his own so much. Which, fast forward to recent years, and he's more comfortable about his writing and has gifted us many amazing songs. Oh and Slow Rabbit (one of their in house producers) produced this.
