My heart is still broken. Thank you Nancy! RIP
Loved this song for more years than I care to admit to. Honoured to have seen her in concert a couple of times. Too many songs of hers to recommend but ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About Love’ and ‘There’s A Light Beyond These Woods’ are among my favourites
Absolutely love Nancy Griffith! Another fantastic folk/country singer songwriter I'm sure you will love is Mary Chapin Carpenter singing one of my favorites of hers, "Down At The Twist And Shout" Oh, and "Passionate Kisses".
Yeah Donna got her red boots. Wintersun Alex ❄️👋❤️
Nanci Griffith | Love At The Five And Dime She turned and smiled at the bass man (Blue shirt on her left) when she sang" Ran off with the Bass Mans wife" . I remember the Woolworth store back in the 60's in my hometown. This is the only version I found with this lead in and that is why I picked it. I am a rock & roll type but I love some country too and they did some other great songs in this concert.
Nanci Griffith | Love At The Five And Dime She was at some kind of writers conference and was given an assignment to write a song overnight. She was surprised that ti it became a hit.
Greetings from Scotland. Saw Nanci 210 times all over the UK, Ireland and in Texas x 2. Got to spend many hours in her company. Sadly missed. Try also It's a hard life.
Donna I searched this song and Nancy Griffith released this song in 1987 but she did a duet with Kathy matea in 2009 love at the five and dime. Wintersun Alex ❄️👋🥳
Thanks for looking that up for me.
Yes lulu has worked very hard we all agree she needs a break. And i bet she can't wait for her truck and lets hope she doesn't run into the house like her momma. I not going to name names but i think she knows who she is . Lol wintersun Alex ❄️👋
We had Woodworth's in England too, I couldn't say for sure if it was in London where I was born and visited sometimes after we left there, or Crawley where I mostly grew up 'til we came to Canada in 1964 where Woolworth's was also found and around.
Charming song and performer, I know I've seen and heard her before. Wish I was more familiar with her, I'll have to make an effort to get to know her. We'll see, I guess. Thanks for sharing, cheers. 😊❤
Woolworths , W.T. Grants , Kressges , G.C. Murphy's. Careful Donna , you're showing your age , and mine . BTW Happy Birthday Lulu , from one Gemini to another. Enjoy being 15 while you can , one day , fifty years from now , you'll wake up and ask why does everything hurt ?
Thanks so much
Lovely nostalgic song and what a voice❤😅
We had a large Woolworths in the town I grew up in here in the UK. It had 3 floors the top floor sold beds, furniture and household goods.
On the ground floor they sold a variety of goods my favourite as a boy was the "Pick 'n Mix" candy stand. There were 50 or 60 plastic containers with different candy (sweets) you got a paper bag filled it with a selection of your favourites had it weighed paid and ate! I bought my first 45 record there Make it with You by Bread!
The stores in the UK did not have an icecream or soda bar.
Donna my Mom and Grandma (who lived with us) were like your mom with shoes. Always bought the best they could afford.
Happy memories.😊
Thanks for listening
WINNS 5 & Dime! Bought my first record there. Viva Las Vegas!
BTW the Woolworth lunch counters were famous for the protest from black activist in the 60s
Nanci is such a good writer, and I’m so glad that you are reacting to her. I believe it was Kathy Matea who had the hit with it. Other Nanci songs you may want to check out are It’s a Hard Life Wherever You Go, Wing and a Wheel, There’s A Light Beyond These Woods Mary Margaret, Trouble In These Fields.
Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for reacting to Nancy Griffith. Very few have. She was maybe more popular in Ireland then in America outside her home state of Texas.. RIP. I get the same feeling and admiration towards this singer as I do with Nancy.. She's trying to get a CD put out. Years of playing and singing and still her goal is to record. A unique voice and her mannerism are much the same as Nancy's was.

She wrote this
@ DWAYNE. CARL. HUTCHINSON. SHE. HAS. A. GREAT. VOICE. NANCI. GRIFFITH. WOW. !
Nancy wrote and recorded it 1st. But Trisha Yearwood made a hit out of it. This version is the best. There's also a version with her and John Prine that's great
Nanci wrote the song, but I think it was a hit for Kathy Mattea.
Thanks for letting me know. That is what I was thinking.
This was a sweet song. But she doesn't look old enough to have shop a Woolworths store. Good song though.
@ DWAYNE. CARL. HUTCHINSON. SHE'S. ALSO. VERY. PRETTY. ! OH. MY. !
