    I'm Molly, a typical sushi, makeup, and fashion loving millennial girl who just so happens to be blind! I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at just 4 years old and began public speaking at age 5. I started just doing motivational speaking, but now I make videos and even model! Even though I can’t see, I know that there are bright spots in everything we face. Let’s find them together. 💕

      Honestly, my vision is fine.. but Fibromyalgia causes me to be unbalanced and bump into things all the time. I wish there were rounded doors and doorways. I always have bruises.
      Honest question: Would I be a bad person to accept an ada apartment? They have wider doorways, so I'm injured less often, but I know they're meant for wheelchairs. But, they do prioritize wheelchair users, so being offered one means they have none on the list. If accepted, would it be ok to keep it?

    I have buttons on my floor that I've taught my assistance dog to press to let me know when to take my meds and time to eat but also when she wants to go outside, when she wants to play, when she wants to go for a walk etc. I was worried she would just press them all the time but she's really good and knows our routine; it just means bad days I don't need to worry about caring for her needs as she'll let me know. She also does it for carers so they know what to do. I even bring a bell into hospital with me so she can let us know when she needs to go toilet. I also have attachments on all my door handles so she can open and close any of them herself, especially helpful if she needs to go an item for me like my medbag.

    I started training as a flight attendant and I was very excited to learn the special attention passengers briefing!! I don't know if I will say this wrong but I learned how to brief someone with visual impairment and I hope that ill be able to help someone feel comfortable flying for the first time 💕💕💕

    • @sooooooooooooooo
      @sooooooooooooooo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly during training they didn’t teach us at all at my airline, I won’t say what airline , and I feel like I did absolutely everything wrong that you’re not supposed to do. So what I wish someone would have told us at training …. ( I don’t know if your aisles are straight but our first class actually has a random … curve ? Before you get to the main cabin. ) So be sure to let that person know if anything is coming up even if it’s at shin or knee level. I think we get so used to the layout of our own aircraft sometimes you don’t realize small details like that. Then , I would say be sure to offer your elbow or ask if you can grab their elbow . Be sure to mention if any of the lavatories are closed on one end or another so they don’t waste their time and if you say it over the speakers they may not notice so be sure to mention that during the briefing. Finally 😅 and most embarrassingly , I would say once they’re seated , maybe even lean in during the conversation , especially if they have a soft voice. I had thought this person was finished speaking and that we had understood each other and apparently after I walked away they had more to say and they didn’t know I had left. I felt totally mortified ! But anyway no one warned me about that stuff and I was brand new when that happened so I felt really jittery about getting the passengers seated and the door closed on time. So just relax and apologize best as you can if you happen to make any mistakes like me !! 😅

    • @sooooooooooooooo
      @sooooooooooooooo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only special assistance they trained me at my airline was basically four basic comments to remind them of and none really had to do with day to day activities it was all emergency procedures stuff. But your airline is hopefully more advanced than mine they may have really improved as time goes on as well I suppose .

    • @jillsarah7356

      Did you know you can make your own home ADHD-accessable/friendly? I also have ADHD, as well as a bunch of other psychiatric disorders, and since I did some changes a lot of things are easier for me to do at home.
      - A big whiteboard where I plan the week, with magnets of things to do (laundry, pharmacy, shower, friends etc), and a small portable one where I plan my day. I can easily see if I have planned in too much and need to cut down, or if it's imbalance in the week.
      - Place out things where I need them, so I don't need to go get them and get distracted on my way and forget my mission. Therefore I have 3 stations of pen and paper just in my kitchen, and that helps me not forgetting what I'm about to write down. My food shopping is easier to plan when I can grab the pen right on the spot.
      - Having timers on multiple places. If you're gonna do something fun and risk hyperfocus or getting stuck for too long, put a timer! If I'm on the computer I use the computer timer, for showering I use a kitchen timer to remind me to go to the next step and not standing for 30 minutes doing creams or whatever.
      There is more to do, this is just what I remembered right now. You can check out the channel "How to ADHD" here on TH-cam, that's where I got my inspiration from. She's really great!

And pot lights have been pretty normal here in Europe for quite a while actually( especially Switzerland)

    I very much like the rounded corners idea, I'm sighted but klutzy and always catching my hips on bannisters and doorknobs and any corner that sticks out... and I've slowly gotten rid of everything I catch my toes on. No sticky-outy table legs or chair legs.
    I've already started using hooks for the stuff I need when I leave the house because leaving it all in a heap, or trying to remember where the heck I put the thing I need, or walking out of the house without my purse-equivalent... ugh.
    I'm left-handed, which you wouldn't think makes that much difference but it sometimes really does, I've got my tea station set up for me and right-handers have trouble with it, the last one who tried to use my electric kettle where it is ended up splashing boiling water on herself. Little things, but they make a difference. I've also got a back injury that makes it difficult to move heavy objects (like food processor and air fryer) from one elevation to another so I solved it with a wheeled cart where the couple heavy things that don't fit on the countertop but need to be used there can just be transferred from hip-height to hip-height which is fine for me.
    We've also removed all the closet doors, the sliding ones are always in the way and I run into the folding type because they inevitably end up open.
    Also my house doesn't have as many outlets attached to wall switches as I'd like so I've installed a couple of adapters so I can have certain things on switches that weren't wired that way. And I've got a couple of battery-operated motion sensor lights for stairwells that were not properly lit when the place was built, one's at the unlit top of a stairwell aimed at the top few stairs, and the other's in my main entry and it shines at the light switch.

    The middle button on your dimmer switches is the "favorite" button, it will remember your favorite dim/bright setting. The install instructions on the website for them says "Press and hold the "favorite"
    button on either the remote or
    dimmer. Hold for 6 seconds until
    LEDS blink twice on in-wall dimmer.
    New favorite level is now saved."

    Pot lights are awesome! They are so easy on the eyes! And dimmers, I love dimmers. We have a dimmer in our kitchen and I love it! I also love storage spaces! The more the better! I need as much storage as I can get! (I have so much stuff!) it's out of the way, but it also has its own section, so you're not like trying to figure out where this is or that is! I keep all my electronics together, all my hair stuff, all my art stuff, etc! That way if I need an electronic I know, hey it's there! And yes I also have a "junk drawer" in my bedroom lol. It's where I keep the stuff that don't have an actual home. I also have a toy storage section where I keep my card games and random toys I collect!! Storage is great! Also, texture, it actually is in a way an accessible thing, cause well, you can't see it (or see it well in my case) so being able to touch it is the next best thing. I love texture! And there are textures I do hate! I really do not like the velvet texture or satin texture, or wool texture. And certain polyester textures are ouchie on my hands! The main issues with the velvet and satin is they are too slippery and I hate it so much! (I work with clothing lol 😂😂) my favourite is rayon!!! I love rayon!!! Haha I'm rambling! 😂 I love your condo! It's a dream for me with accessibility lol

    Not blind here but We got smart appliances when we just remodeled, the microwave talks to the oven and vice versa, but wash machine talks to the dryer, all are Alexa, and google, compatible & have an app connectivity as well. Our kitchen faucet has an app Wi-Fi Bluetooth and it’s smart turn off and we’re getting out of your bathroom faucet in a week or two in my room has an Alexa and I have all my lamps connected to it and set it on the schedule in case I forget to turn off the lights and I have a smart lightbulbs that are connected to absent Alexa and google. I believe thermostat has an app to turn the air or heat up or down.

    When my husband and I buy our forever home, I'm going to use your condo as design inspiration-minus the high tech appliances, because I have zero patience for technical difficulties. I'm not blind, but eye problems do run on my mom's side of the family and my grandmother has now been blind for years as had been her mother, grandmother, and five of her other family members of the older generation (not her siblings though). I have no idea if my mom and I are going to be blind one day. My grandmother didn't start losing her vision until she was in her mid to late 60's, and I believe her other blind family members also only started losing it post-retirement. My mom is now 64 years old, so I guess we will soon see if she inherited her mother's poor eye health.
    By the way, Elton John is more adorable than I could have ever imagined! I've never been a fan of black dogs or hairy dogs, and he is changing my entire perception of what I like and dislike in dogs because his playfulness, empathetic nature, and just overall BIG personality makes it impossible to not think he's the best and cutest dog on the planet.

    I'm third-generation in my house so there has been some things that were done for my mom who was in a wheelchair and both of my parents had some mobility issues. So there's already a wheelchair ramp for me I suffer from mobility issues and they did put in a walk-in tub. I'm going to tell you I don't like it for the plain simple fact I'm not going to sit there and freeze while it fills up with water because you have to walk in and lock the door behind you because door swings into the tub so the pressure of the water helps keep it sealed. I do have hooks by my door mine are the back-end of a dog with a long tail that curls up for the hook. I'm looking at either an elevator or a chair lift that goes over the stairs hello you can get to the basement easier haven't decided yet.

  • @ElicBehexan
    @ElicBehexan ปีที่แล้ว

    My wife had limited vision. Before she moved in, I remodeled my house, putting in a second bathroom, but I also switched the original shower/tub to a step in shower with a bench because even then, 20+years ago, I had hurt my feet and could barely stand barefoot. A few years after she moved in, way before we got married, she suggested a combination lock on the front door because I had another roommate who ended up calling EMS and either I had to leave the door unlocked, which she didn't like, or run home from work to let them in the house. I still have both of these. Also, since I'm nearing 70, I have nearly all the doors with levers because there are times when I have trouble turning knobs. I had a very clever cat who would open them, but he's gone now and the ones I have haven't figured out how to do it, so the few round door knobs are being replaced.

    If you haven't looked into them already, Brita makes non pitcher-type filters. The kind I have sits in the fridge and has a spout like one of those big sports jugs. It's a little more bulky and awkward to refill but 100% worth it for trying to fill water bottles.

    Molly I am with you on the bidets! Bidets are essential for every home. I got my first bidet about 10 years ago and I immediately realized how much cleaner it is. The fact of the matter is that you are not as clean as you could be if you don't use a bidet. You can buy one for under $30 and they retrofit any toilet. They're easy to install too.
    Using inadequate toilet paper and wet wipes 😩 is tragic! As an analogy, here's a question... If mud got all over your driveway, would you clean it by trying to wipe it off with paper towels? Or would you spray the mud off with a water hose? Which method would better remove the mud and clean your driveway? If you said a water hose is better, you should get a bidet. 😊

Side note but I just wanted to ask if you'd consider putting any text on the screen during the video nearer the top? First thing I did with my home was replace ALL the levers handles with knobs. I think they are of the devil lol. Like you mentioned, I’ve been hooked, my clothes have been ripped, I’ve been trapped in bathroom with one of those handles too, arms been bruised, etc. so I’m so down with knobs. 😆. I love your space!
