Hearing Kane at number 2 genuinely made me happy. This guy debuted making people convinced that he was a serial killer, the outfit was amazing, the physique was amazing, I can’t get over how much of a phenomenal WWE star he is.

Especially when you consider that he's got a reputation for being such a nice guy when out of character. That takes some acting skill to convince people that a nice guy is really a serial killer psychopath. Long may Glenn "Kane" Jacobs reign as Mayor of Knox County.

I think Kane is overrated and I personally didn't care for his stiff-moving in ring performance. The Undertaker is my favorite big man not only because of his character but because of how he moved in the ring. His movement was not stiff and he his acrobatics were more impressive. Notice how when Kane did a clothesline from the top, he always had to land on his feet. But go back and watch how Undertaker lands, such as in his match with Diesel. He lands on his side making for a more impressive high flyer. My second favorite is Crush. I had a crush on him, but he had Mark Calaway's look and style and he should have been given more of a chance. Prince Albert is my third, crazy talent, and I think one of the best performing big men of all time. I would love to have seen a feud between him and Taker's deadman gimmick. You also have to put Umaga on this list because he had crazy speed and intensity and for a man his size. Finally, Sid. Gorgeous and hilarious with that eye blinking, laughing neurotic gimmick he played.

Remembering all those strongman moments where he pull the truck, bending metals and stop the car with his legs. That was awesome. And on top of that, Hall of Pain was one of my favorite stories in WWE.
    3. Kane
Probably the best WWF debut of all time. And I love how The Brothers of Destruction were rarely used to keep the mystic and the hype around it alive. Such a cool gimmick.
    2. Andre the Giant
The main reason why there was a HOF. The original giant, had one of the most(if not, most) important feud in WWF/WWE history with Hulk Hogan. He was the main attraction everywhere he goes. What a legend.
    (Honorable mention)
    Yokozuna
For his size he was so smooth especially with that super kick. He knows how to play a very good heel with Mr. Fuji. That Bonzai finisher was the scariest finisher ever IMO.
    1. The Undertaker
Before Brock, he was undefeated in Wrestlemania for two decades which will never be replicated. He has the best character gimmick/development ever. His in-ring ability as a bigman is unmatched. His entrance is unmatched. He had some of the top tier feuds with the likes of Kane, Yokozuna, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Mark Henry, Edge and Brock Lesnar. Not only is he the Number 1 Mt Rushmore of Bigmen of all time but easily one of the best ‘Wrestlers’ of all time.

I think Mark's list is amazing and gives real insight into the business. It takes such extreme agility to put yourself in danger (as the best ones do) before your competitor and still make it look devastating for them. But if we're talking raw athleticism to size ratio, then Vader and Yokozuna win that comparison.

Andre, obviously, is a shoo-in. Anyone who got to see him in the 1970s knows how good he really was, how quick, how well he played on the mat. My first sight of him was his debut at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1973 and he wowed everyone there (and this was at a point where MLG was selling out nearly every other Sunday night, and people were coming from as far away as Buffalo and Kingston and London for the shows). His time in the Vachon's Grand Prix promotion in Montreal was a period where *everybody* was making money, and he ruled the roost.
Undertaker is another who HAS to be on the list. Again, look at what he was doing even before he was The Undertaker in MACW/WCW and even earlier in WCCW and Continental and you could see he was going to be something big (in more than just the literal meaning of the word). And his gimmick was out there, but so very easy to make last. I think the only wrestler who lived his gimmick longer than him was the not-quite-original Sheik, Ed Farhat.
Gotta put Don Leo Jonathan on the list. Here was a guy who was nearly as big as 'Taker at 6'6", and 325+ lbs that could do dropkicks (landed one on Andre's nose in one Montreal match), cartwheels, and could skin-the-cat back into the ring with another wrestler in a body-scissors. Worked on-top everywhere, coast to coast, and could work with other big men as well as the smaller guys. He and Andre's match at the Montreal Forum is still talked about by fans there 50 years later.
My # 4 I have to put in provisionally, since I'm still uncertain after all these years if he was over 300 pounds, and that was one of the criteria mentioned. But if he didn't make 300 pounds, he wasn't all that far off: Ernie "The Cat" Ladd. Again, even with his blown knees in the late 60s, he bounced around the ring like someone 2/3 his size, and even, once in a while, threw a dropkick. His matches with Bruno are still the stuff of legend for NYC fans. And he inspired both Bobby Shane AND Jerry Lawler to wear a crown to show their superiority to the rest of the wrestlers.
Any of my Honourbale Mentions could replace Ernie if he doesn't make weight: Haystacks Calhoun (not a good worker, but boy was he popular!), Yukon Eric (not as tall -- only 6'1" -- but definitely cut the 300 pound mark), Vader (especially prior to the WWF/WWE, and perhaps even moreso prior to WCW), and Giant Baba (don't watch his matches from the 80s, hunt for matches of his from the 1970s, like his win against Jack Brisco for the NWA title to see just how good he really was).
If either Killer Kowalski or Bobo Brazil had topped 300 pounds, I'd have included on of them as my 4, but it would break my heart to have to leave one of them off, really.

Brock Lesnar might be 4 for me, but also he might be too short, i know in the video Taker said 6'5 and technically hes under that, but he wrestled like a big man. Drew MacIntyre would be my next choice, although that may surprise some people, ive always felt he was extremely underrated. However, even after bulking up i dont think he ever got over 300 pounds. I don't know as much about Vader outside of the ring but You, Glen, Rodney, and Andre. The internet, especially here on TH-cam, is full top to bottom with stories from others in the business, fans with their stories, etc. about just what great people you guys were outside of the ring. 3. Big Van Vader
The mask, the brute force and power, the agility, dominance, and the intimidation he was a force of nature and all of this happening worldwide with an array of awesome talent.
    4. Yokozuna
Words fail me when describing what I felt watching him in action in all his matches.
Huge and quick as a cat it just defied belief!
Absolutely dominating and I always wondered if there was anyone that could stop him!
So talented and his tag team with Owen Hart was such a great combination.
The pro wrestlers in the 80s and 90s are simply the best and this will always be true.
I will always remember these 4 legends and the huge impact on my life as a fan of pro wrestling.
    Thank you!

I'm late but my list isn't much different than Takers for similar reasons.
    1. Taker - no explanation needed, Taker was the one who made me fall in love with wrestling and more than that on a more personal and deeper level it was the first time I realised it was okay to be different and could even work to your favour.
    2. Kane - same reasons as Taker, more or less, the things he could do in the ring. I really believed he was the Big Red Machine. I was too young to remember Takers debut since I was about 3-4 years old. But Kanes debut in that Hell in a Cell, he rips that door off. I vividly remember that as being an "Holy $%@#" moment for me. Kane is one of my all time favourites only second to The Deadman himself.
3.Andre the Giant - This one should be obvious.
4.Yokozuna - The dude was super believable, and if my memory serves me correctly he has one of the longest runs as champ. Yokozuna made a lot of great moments, the first time he was slammed by someone, him winning the championship so quickly after his debut, the charisma too his entrance and the white powder. Also it was just impressive a man of his size and stature being able to do what he did.
    5. I'ma prolly catch some flack for this one but...Bam Bam Bigelow - I was a fan of his back in the 90's, I remember him as a big mean and believable wrestler. You believed Bam Bam was as badass as he said he was and looked. I also remember him as one of the first big dudes I saw doing things I didn't think a big dude could do.

  • @marcelthorsen
    @marcelthorsen 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

My Mount Rushmore of Big Men in no particular order: Undertaker (there's only one Dead Man), Kane (for obvious reasons), Mike Awesome (underrated choice, he had some genuinely incredible matches in his prime in ECW especially against Masato Tanaka), and I'm leaning towards Chris Kanyon but if he doesn't quite qualify as big enough (he was 6'4") then Sid or Bam Bam would be my last pick.

  • @CoffeeMatt10
    @CoffeeMatt10 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

I honestly thought you would put Kane as number 1 as your careers ran alongside each other for so long, and as you said, he could work with anyone, big, small or somewhere in the middle, different styles, match types… he could hang with anyone in any scenario (and probably still can).
It’s a tough pick, there’s some greats that could make the list… I would have trouble with it, and would probably change my mind halfway through it too. Although that’s more because I know 2 that are guaranteed on my Mount Rushmore, so it’s filling up the 2 other spots that takes some narrowing down.
For me it’s 2 out of these 4 for 3rd and 4th spots:
Big Show, certainly early on in his career, was freakishly athletic for his size and build.
Rikishi, again someone with the size and build that you wouldn’t associate athleticism with, but my god I remember he used to sell clotheslines with that twisting flip and he somehow hung in the air while doing it, certainly made the move look way more impactful, but the fact that he could do things like that was just so impressive. And that bump off the top of the Cell… that was insane. He was also highly entertaining, especially around the time he teamed with Too Cool and they would do their dances in the ring.
Vader, as you said very athletic, it’s always impressive seeing a big man come off the top rope, but he did moonsaults! He worked well with a lot of guys too.
And of course Andre, he was that much of a marvel that he transcended the sport. I never got to see him but for a few highlights, so that gives you an idea of the stature of the man and his impact… as I said, he transcended the sport.
So that’s my options for 3 and 4, it’s hard to narrow it right down to just 2. However, it’s easy for my 1 and 2:
My number 2 spot goes to Kane, and for the same reasons as you said.
My number 1 big man… The Undertaker. That’s not me being an ass-kisser, that’s genuine. Taker, a guy who just like Kane could work with anyone, had the athleticism, the agility, the skill, the power… seeing a man of such stature walk along the top rope for Old School, and diving OVER the top rope to the outside, that’s insane! There’s also the longevity, the sustainability, the adaptability, a locker room general, probably the most respected man in the business, and someone who to the very last protected the business even in the age of the internet and social media. You have all the qualities of the others, plus a whole heap more. If I could only pick a number 1 big man, it’s The Undertaker.

I agree. When Mark was talking about Kane, I thought that what he was saying easily applies to himself. Of course, he has too much class to put himself up there. So it's up to we fans to correct him..... with much love and respect of course 😁
Of all the big men, Taker reigned at the top and maintained his quality of performance for longer than any of his rivals. He also had the best gimmick and ring entry of anyone. Never heard a bad word about Mark as a man either and in his interviews and pod casts he comes across as a decent human being. It's nice when your heroes don't disappoint in person.

The Big Show is in my opinion the strongest big wrestler. He was not only really strong but also his athleticism was amazing for his size. I really think he's kind of a natural giant. Naturally strong even without training. I'm sure he's always been the strongest and tallest in the classroom. Big Show was underrated I think. I'm not even a wrestling fan at all. Also Mabel/Viscera was really strong and quite athletic. Viscera must have been frightening for the opponents...

Mark Henry turned up at the world's most competitive strongman competition with a few months' worth of training, having not lifted in 5 years and having never competed as a strongman, and won. When it comes to raw, natural strength, there quite literally isn't a human in history that can compete with Mark Henry.

Like most of the comments have said already, Taker would be No 1, easily. That mental dive he did over the top rope outside the ring always impressed me (let alone the leg drop from the turnbuckle to the announcers table) and he’s had so many different versions of himself and made them all work. I still have a “Ministry of Darkness” robe which I wore for Halloween once lol. Rikishi, Andre, and Kane would be my other 3 (mainly because I saw Rikishi a lot more than Yoko).

Nobody has walked the ropes like you at your size as good as you ,fly over the top rope ,deliver some of the greatest matches ever for as long as you did. As far as Top 4 ,Andre has to be on everyones list ,whether we are old school fans or new for sure. 4. Vader - tough choice, but he's a personal favourite. I loved watching his matches.
    3. Kevin Nash (this is my biggest change, but love him or hate him, he had a massive impact on the sport and was around longer than Yokozuna - also I'm assuming Hogan is just a little too small to qualify)
    2. The Undertaker - an easy number 2 (I'd happily have Kane in this list at number 3, but since I can choose you, I'm choosing you and sadly, if I have a 'Taker, then having Kane as well feels like I'm doubling up, even though you are two very different people)
    And yeah...
    1. Andre the Giant - no other choice for number 1 will be excepted!
