I love this channel, and excuse me if I`m being ignorant with the following comment but then, wouldn`t be the Thai Roundhouse more lethal? BTW I practice both, Karate and Muay Thai so Im not being biased.. just opening a decent debate.
According to my experience and of course I could be mistaken, my opinion is that Thai kicks do more much more damage and can end a fight with one single devastating blow, although they are slower and more predictable, which makes them easier to catch by a grappler, if you know how too, and are strong enough to stand the blow on your leg while catching the kick against your leg with gyaku barai when it hits the target ,other wise you will break your arm trying a gedan barai on a Thai kick, on the other hand, in some styles of karate mawashi geri like JKA Shotokan, the knee is lifted frontwards before rotating the waist, thus protecting the groin, which makes them less powerful but again it protects your groin, and also it protects the base foot from a sweep while the other foot is in the air kicking, remember karate is a defensive art, it seeks to avoid being hit in the first place rather than inflicting damage, these kicks are not half as strong as Thai kicks but hit the target faster and then retract, are less bound to get trapped by a grappler because of their snappy whip like retracting motion.
I think Batman in that BvS warehous fight scene kicks that one guy hanging upside down exactly like this: Batman's leg is bent, there's a slight delay, and he snaps his leg to do the kick. And the upside down guy goes flying.
