41:55 I agree completely with Joe. As long as "you're telling me there's a chance" is still in play, no matter how small, the team should not favor one driver over the other. And I actually think that might be "the clause" in Piastri's contract: "No team orders, if mathematically I am still in the run to win the WDC ". So, I don't think we will hear McLaren team orders in the near future if Lando keeps messing up and/or Oscar keep putting in great performances (assuming Max and RB will continue to struggle). The latter might be the case, Oscar is I think already much better than people think. It would not surprise me one bit if he beats Lando next year. Only thing Lando has on him right now, is experience, since this is only his 2nd season (what we also seem to forget, because of how mature he comes over).
My god man - that wasnt the situation at Monza - look I love Lando, but at Monza his first few corners were terrible, really really bad. I am so glad there is at least 1 journalist that understands the philosophy of letting your drivers race, and leaving the drivers title to them. People who say Mclaren don't care about the drivers title are wrong, of course they do, but they care about it being decided on track between their drivers more. I really hope for everyone's sake, not least Lando, Mclaren hold firm
I do agree with Joe, WDC has to be won on merit. A lot of people say that it might be the only chance Norris could become WDC but he'll probably need his team's intervention. This is irrelevant, if he is so good he'll win by himself. To receive a manufactured victory isn't an honour.
Could it be argued that any driver winning the WDC is on merit? It's the team's job to support them, intervention is just part of it. A driver needs to put themselves in a position to be supported by the team to get a WDC in the first place. You can't separate the driver from the team these days anyway because a championship is more than the driver's own skill, it's the mechanics, engineers, strategists and designers as well.
I would argue Senna Schumacher Vettel and Verstappen have all benefitted from team No1 status from the start of their respective seasons. On their day they were all generational talents though......
I wish Spanners would have asked Joe if Oscars first win was undervalued since Norris should have easily won it. I remember thinking I wouldn't want my first win to be given to me. Also makes me wonder what McLaren meant when they told Lando he would need the team and Oscar to to help him win the WDC. If anything I think McLaren are favoring Oscar more than Lando but not more than McLaren themselves.
That's not the argument, though. Do you really think the bosses at McLaren care about whether people on the internet think it'll have been sufficiently "on merit" or not? No. You're silly if you don't maximize your chance at the title and give your front-running driver as many points as possible this late in the season.
Spanners, let’s be friends. So let’s be honest. If you keep interrupting, putting words in his mouth and winding Joe up like this - there’ll come a time that you’ll lose him in the podcast. Which would be a shame for Missed Apex.
The year is 2057. The electrical grids have collapsed under the stress of an overheating planet. The food supplies are running low. From the other side of campsite here in the eastern portion of Shelter 47 you hear a familiar refrain, "Gasly was told by Horner to impede Hamilton wherever he could! And people just are just okay with it!"
The majority shareholder doesn't make the company foreign. Joe would be shocked if he examined any listed multinational to see what its registry looks like. It's the 21st century. Of course, McLaren is British.
Red Bull's biggest problem is the large Adrian Newey-shaped hole in their engineering and design department. To say there is no correlation between his leaving F1 and the downturn in Red Bull's performance is delusional.
Bizzare that Joe thinks nothing has happened at Red Bull. When folks talk like this, I just assume there’s someone they don’t want to upset. That loss in performance speaks volumes.
There's definitely something going on with Max. Ever since his junior career, he's been suspiciously good. Apparently Jos would juice his go-kart engine and was seen fiddling about with Max's breaks recently. He's no longer allowed in the garage and now Max is super slow! Devalued championships.
Don't forget that Mclaren DID have team orders in Hungary where Norris was ordered to let Piastri past.
Uncle Joe episodes are the best
Heck yeah! The Platonic form of 'grumpy'.
Love Joe on the podcast. Straight talking and having none of Spanners nonsense.
but Spanners keeps at it anyway lol
These shows with joe are the best episodes

Great podcast! I loved hearing Joe talk about how underrated Hulkenberg has been.
According to Ferrari their update was a general floor update. Leclerc also seemed to be talking as if it wasn't track specific.
he was also calling the car complete %!£$ in the slow stuff

Top notch as usual
Racing talk is ok but can we have more ragdoll tum, please Spanners. (Gone off Joe as he doesn't like cats.)

Man, I love when Spanners gets mad about 2021 Checo + Alpha Tauri moving aside. Keep it up Spanners!

Ferraris upgrade wasnt circuit specific
This is such a good episode, but the volume was too low :-/
Dynamic duo the two of you are
28:35 This narrative that "Kimi crashed but BOY is he QUICKKK", you know why he was so quick? Cause he was over driving the car thus he crashed......
15:49 i think spanos is completely wrong on this
I follow Luke Browning he’s got lots of promise
Is Browning the Williams junior whose name Joe couldn't remember?
Yet another f1 podcast with a pun name, only barbers and fish n chip shops also follow this rule 😅🍻
Red Bull's biggest problem is the large Adrian Newey-shaped hole in their engineering and design department. To say there is no correlation between his leaving F1 and the downturn in Red Bull's performance is delusional.
Jo was in motorcycle racing in a former life 😂💯when the green flag drops the bullshit stops 👌
Bizzare that Joe thinks nothing has happened at Red Bull. When folks talk like this, I just assume there’s someone they don’t want to upset. That loss in performance speaks volumes.
Wow lot of max fans in the comments
I like uncle but he is a bit grumpy
I know he has bags of experience but I can't say I take to him.}
Listen to Joe Spanners ; ) Red Bull doesn't need "Team Orders."
Max wouldn't do much better driving Perez´s car, last races prove it. heheh.
There's definitely something going on with Max. Ever since his junior career, he's been suspiciously good. Apparently Jos would juice his go-kart engine and was seen fiddling about with Max's breaks recently. He's no longer allowed in the garage and now Max is super slow! Devalued championships.
Ah, there you are. Was wondering where the vinegar went.
Sadly this comment will probably go over most people's heads.
Joe Seward is delusional
