I wonder if they have ever considered a rule which would allow every finishing car to drop one worst stage result to determine final finishing positions. Obviously, in that case, Ogier would have won the event. I wonder the position in which Evans would have finished but I really was impressed by his recovery after his crash.
That would defeat the whole purpose of stages and championship. Stages means you can have a bad moment but steal recover from a mistake. What matters is consistantcy. If you remove a bad stage then what's the point? Ogier made two errors in that rally. He pushed his car too far resulting in a puncture. Then because he felt the pressure he made his second mistake and started too early resulting in a penalty that ultimately cost him his first place. So from his point of view that woudl be great but from the point of view of other drivers who did not make mistales that would be unfair. An endurance race is all about managing your car and your driving. If you erase the worst stage then the result won't be satisfying for no one.
@@MaraisStephane On balance, I really cannot disagree with you. To be fair, Ogier himself was in the end quite stoic about it all and did not indulge in any self-serving lamentations. By contrast, especially on Saturday, we could see a number of moments when Loeb was, as you have put it, managing his driving. Absolutely, that is what in the end gets you across the finishing line in whatever position it is, and, indeed the result should be respected.

je pense qu'aucun pilote ne connais par cœur les 296km de spéciales mais effectivement ils ont l'avantage d'être a domicile !
