Rim world is a great game. The biggest problem is that the every time they do an update, the mods no longer work. Its a pain to get modders to fix there content and it's a pain for them to have to fix there mods every time. Then some mods are no longer used. Which sucks because some of those were one of a kind. ONI was cool but gets really complicated. PA is fun and mods make even more so. DLC's also add some play. I am still waiting for PA2 to drop. But they keep pushing back the release date.
Great list. Rimworld, Oxygen Not Included, and Prison Architect are genius games, but maybe not for everyone. Frostpunk ist to me more a mix of city builder and survival with additional story related events. Against the Storm is very cool. Some may claim it is more repetitive as the player builds a base with limited resources and requires adaption to the situation with randomized set of available buildings. But very well made. I am missing Anno 1800 and Workers & Resources of the Sowjet Republic, but I also understand your list could get even much more longer like binging on potatoe salad. 😂
That idea of your brain filing up just makes good evolutionary sense. Brains with a lot of excess capacity would be larger requiring more food and oxygen. Evolution should optimize brain capacity for the normal amount of knowledge needed. In the modern world we have so much more we can learn that we must try to exceed the capacity and something must go. I am concered about what I lost to learn French vocabulary.
You missed few nice games, like Ostriv, maybe Patron, but all-in-all nice list. I think I've played most of these games. Oh, and Songs of Syx, though it is more a city-state builder rather than colony sim... but still worth noticing (and superb game itself).
@@ColdBeer Nah, lines are good in retirement houses. We, strong people from eastern Europe, should accept no lines ;-P. 45 sure sounds promising... but I dont think You could actually find that many really good games in genre... at least not without expanding conditions.
Are you like seriously questioning gaming TH-camr about games? :D There another 20 nice colony-sims that are not in this video: Cataclismo, Tribe, Infection Free Zone, Foundation, Settlers (pick any), Workers & Resources, Stronghold, Ostriv, Songs of Syx, Patron, IXION, Endzone: A World Apart, Dawn of Man, Space Colony: Steam Edition, Pioneers of Pagonia, Norland, Northgard, Fabledom, Settlement Survival, Stardeus
@@ColdBeer Haha, now it looks better, list seems... mature ;-P. On the other hand, many of these games are just colony-sims or city builders but are they really top in the genre? And yes, I know, now Im talking about very subjective things, so I guess hard to give good answer on this ;-P.
i really really really wanted to enjoy Oxygen Not Included and started it over at least 3 times, but it's just a bit too brutal for me even Frostpunk on the harder difficulties isn't as hard
I had it on my wishlist for months until I found a sale recently that was good enough for me; I got impatient waiting for a deep discount. Honestly, whatever you end up paying, it's worth it!

This list is absolutely on point.
Great video! Pick some games and thank you for such a complete guide
Some more notable colony sims:
IXION, Space Colony: Steam Edition, Endzone: A World Apart, Pioneers of Pagonia and Dawn of Man.
Especially thank you for Platform and Steam deck labels on each game!
"You're playing Rimworld again? What got you back into that?"
"ColdBeer."
"You're drunk?"

"If you ever had a dream to make children work in the mines."
Humor. 😁

AN upcoming contender is Soulmask. It's not advertised as a colony sim, but it has most of the elements.
Stronghold is not a part of this list? Blasphemy!

Yeah, those are nice! To be honest I could probably make Best 45 :) But you know, I had to draw the line somewhere

My favourite genre. Lets see if there are any mad new titles to pick up
i really really really wanted to enjoy Oxygen Not Included and started it over at least 3 times, but it's just a bit too brutal for me
even Frostpunk on the harder difficulties isn't as hard
Dawn of man should be on this list. Also Planet base is really good.
And like ~30 games more, but it's top 25 :)
Thats one hell of a cat...
Shame Foundation is not on the list. It's about to come out of EAccess and is lovely.
goblins of elderstone looks good too
SONG OF SYX ❤
I really want to download RimWorld but it’s so expensive
wait for a sale, last time it had 20% discount. Not much but still, it's something

@@bayjove it looks really good! Are you able to make your own characters on it ? I’ve seen some TH-camrs do it which is partly why I want the game,
No Songs of Syx?
Please, check Ostriv
Songs of Syx?!
You know, I can name at least 30 more :)
Diplomacy is Not an Option ;)
Kenshi?!
ONI should be #1. Rimworld is not that great.
