- Chicago's first home playoff game in over 22 years. If there was one game highlight of what the 1985 Monsters of the Midway were about, this particular game highlight would be it. The best shots of this highlight were @2:23 , where Chicago offensive tackle Jimbo Covert took down LT, showing the Bears offensive line was just as intimidating as their defensive line, as well as @3:21, where the narrator explains it all. The only thing this game didn't have was the Fridge scoring a goal line touchdown. That was saved for the Super Bowl.
These BEARS....made me love football.....I will forever love football and all THE amazing athletes from the NFL! The 85' Bears were my first memories of football and I will forever keep football alive in my heart forever 🏈🏉

Harry Kalas had a great voice but not better than the great John Facenda’s voice. Facenda was the voice of NFL Films until 1984 when he passed away.

Payton and that '85 Defense made the overrated Jim McMahon famous.

This game was no blowout. Giants had three terrible plays go against them in the first half. Rob Carpenter fumbles to kill their opening drive, in which they were moving the ball. Ridiculous punt for a TD. Giants had the ball inside the Bears five yard line just before the half and got nothing out of it, missed FG. With all that bad happening to them, it was still only 7-0 at halftime.
Thomas N I agree with you. If Sean Landeta doesn’t miss that punt, and the Giants actually score at the goal line in the 2nd quarter, it could of been 7-0 Giants over Bears going into the half. I say the same thing about the 1984 Bears/49ers NFC championship game.

In 16 games they held the opponent to 10 points or less 11 times, including two shutouts. That is insane at the NFL level.
They recorded 5 shut outs that year.

The 1985 Chicago Bear Defense is the greatest defense in NFL history, bar none. They didn't beat you, they shut you down and put the fear of God in you if you were a Quarterback. Keep in mind that the 1985 Chicago Bears shut down this great New York Giant Team one year before the New York Giants massacred the great San Francisco 49er Team 49-3 in that NFC Championship Game and went on to win The Super Bowl handily against John Elway's Denver Broncos. Just for the record, the 1985 Chicago Bears had one of the most underrated offenses of all time. That offense behind a healthy Jim McMahon was pretty damn good.
They had one of the greatest OL's in history, 4 or 5 years running.

We should have won at least 3 or 4 SBs with the team we had. It still bothers me to this day.
The Bears real problems were on offense - QB inconsistency and a lack of viable receiving options (Gault was okay but everything else was a question mark at best). Basically, the Bears ran everything through Payton and later Anderson. The defense remained stout through 1988. The special teams also had some issues which Darrell Green helped expose in the playoffs in subsequent seasons after 1985.
@Michael Buddy Ryan left after the 85 season and Vince Tobin did not run the 46 , the Bears played a base 4 3 in 86 and they still were the number one defense. The Bears lost more than Buddy after the Super Bowl they lost their best cover corner in Leslie Frazier that enabled them to blitz and play certain coverages without him they had no one to shut down Art Monk and Gary Clark in the 86 and 87 playoffs. By the 88 season Wilber Marshall and Otis Wilson was gone, and nobody was beating SF in 89.

Landetta whiff on the punt is similar to glitch in the Madden game for IOS where you can block the punt at will using fake punt defense and rushing. the punter almost places the ball in the belly of the on-rushing defender.

The Giants kept it close for a while but it was Chicago's year. Nobody was bearing them that year. Especially on Astroturf...They looked like they has 14 guys on defense at times. 85 was a fun year.

Loved Marino but poor guy won many battles but lost the war. I will say this he had one mean quick release. I'm a chick 🐥 but was made to watch football 🏈 😄. I grew up with 3 brothers and no sisters. He was easy on the eyes 👀 too!
