    That's a great video! Great story and funny ending I also agree about how closely they pack the tables together. Sometimes you need to climb under the table just to get out.

      Indeed regarding the tables, it's like additional mini-game when eating out, how to get in, under or around the tables. Thank you for your comment and your support!

    I love your bathroom tiles, they brightened up your experience 😂😂

    As high as the reviews are for this place, do yourself a favor and try a local osteria or taverna. I was in Rome for over a week and I tried this on the 2nd day of my trip. It was one of two "touristy" locations I went to during the whole trip. I got the Pasta alla Gricia and the saltiness was overwhelming. It was super salty, and dry. I'm no stranger to cuisines but this was my first time trying gricia so I asked the server if this is how it's supposed to be. He said yes. I paid the 16-17 euros + 6 euros for wine, and left.
    Over the course of the rest of the trip I had two more opportunities to try pasta alla gricia - at local places. Totally different, totally outstanding. Not too much cheese, just the right amount of sauce coating the pasta, and the perfect hint of pork fat - since gricia is less about the cheese, more about the guanciale.
    Do yourself a favor, and be a little adventurous and stray a few min away from the main areas. Learn one or two phrases in Italian, and brave yourself to venture into a more local eatery - you won't be disappointed.
    I learned basic italian before my trip and it did wonders. Oh and the 2nd "touristy" place I went to was Forno Campo de' Fiori in Campo dei Fiori. Visited by tourists and locals alike. Their focaccia, pastries, and paninis were amazing. I went back 4 times over the course of 10 days.

      Excellent advice and I agree. I've been to Rome several times and will be staying two blocks from Campo de' Fiori the second half of Feb. Looking forward to Forno Campo de' Fiori, again!

      Awesome! If you haven't before, feel free to look into an osteria called Giulio Passami L'olio. It's on Via di Monte Giordano. A street away from the busier touristy street, and you'll experience a great meal in a more local setting. I went based off of a recommendation from someone else I know, and it didn't let me down. Went twice, both times for dinner - got real crowded by 8 or so. I went around 7:15 - 7:30 pm before the locals started to filter in :).
      Osso bucco was great. So was the lamb. Didn't get pasta there, but I'm sure they do a fine job at it. Cheers. @@RTD3

    Gotta say I can't agree very much with the review. We just got back from Rome and had a great meal there. A lot of your comments seemed to be personal in nature. Al dente is the norm for pasta in Rome and, as you yourself said, Pecorino & pepper is pretty much what Cació e Pepe is. Just seems you prefer less of it than others. As far as a table for one...with that many people coming through it doesn't seem reasonable that they could provide a table for four in the middle of the restaurant for just one person. Perhaps inviting some friends to dine with you? And, I and many others, have eaten there often and never had "stomach" problems. I don't think it was fair to state as a fact that the Cacio e Pepe gave you the runs. Just to give everyone else a different perspective...I and many others love this place.

      Hello, thank you for your comment and taking the time. First of, for my money and time spent in any restaurant I expect at least some basic quality of food and service. Second I've been cooking since I was 16 years old, and also lived for years in a Mediterranean country. In recent months I am also constantly visiting Italy. So, I am pretty sure that I know what is a good pasta. Al dente is the pasta you can eat and chew, what they gave to me was very problematic to chew. That pasta wasn't even an average pasta, plus the dish was ruined how they prepared it. Now, if you enjoy their 17-18€ pasta and you think this is the correct price for what they offer, this is your freedom of choice. If you also like to sit pinched in between tables, again it is your choice. That was my opinion based on my experience there and the fact that the place is 100% tourist trap. Again everyone has their own taste, opinion, but I think you are overdoing it with defending them, giving your medical expertise in the comments what made issues with my stomach. 😅

      As a resident of Roma, I can confirm Alex Mark’s experience. This is a touristy place that is not considered to be good quality by Roman standards and locals don’t eat there. The only reason it’s still in business is because of their clever marketing to use sweet old ladies making pasta in the window and getting free advertising on social media

      All I can say is, it doesn’t matter if the restaurant is full and he has to sit in a table at the corner, the sctructure of the restaurant is wrong from the beginning, putting that much tables very close to each other, it’s like airplanes putting the seats each time tighter.

    I was in Rome in May (2023) and Fortunata was on my list but I'm glad we chose elsewhere. Cacio e pepe, carbonara, or any other pasta dish with a heavy sauce should NOT be served with freshly made pasta. I've heard lots of good things about Fortunata from seasoned travelers I trust but maybe, even they, fall prey to the hype.

    • @AlexMarkTravel
      @AlexMarkTravel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing! And I agree completely with you. The place is just hyped, and they ride on that marketing of putting women in the window to make pasta. Most of the waiters very rude, tables small and cramped up, and the pasta one I tried was bellow any standards. Pasta is also just too thick, problem with chewing and probably digesting as well, especially if they don't cook it well. 😅

      In Roma, you can find Carbonar used with fresh pasta. Indeed, it’s heavier, but it’s not out of the question.

    Too often it is the tourist who wants the trap. Whoever wants carbonara with cream wants a trap. Those who want carbonara with fresh pasta want a trap.... When a recipe calls for durum wheat pasta, dry pasta is much better than fresh pasta.

    • @AlexMarkTravel
      @AlexMarkTravel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Dry pasta for the win 😄! Well, problem is that many of the tourists don't know much about pasta, same if you went to Japan (not knowing beforehand) about Sashimi, you will get whatever they serve to you. Or if you go to Vietnam, someone can give you dog meat and you don't know, doesn't mean that you wanted to eat these foods.

    • @MarcoMenozziPro
      @MarcoMenozziPro 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AlexMarkTravel I agree. My suggestion is to ask the locals for non-tourist restaurants: they will be happy to point out their favourites. Italians hate tourist restaurants.

      @@AlexMarkTravel It depends on the recipes, egg pasta, which is more typical of northern Italy, is made from common (soft) wheat and is best when fresh. Thank you for your attention to Italian cuisine.
