LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! This is by far the BEST OF THE BEST sites on how to do things RIGHT! Been doing this kind of work for 50+yrs and STILL learning some stuff. Have a 2003 S10 4.3 extended cab w/500k+ miles WITH THE ORIGINAL ENGINE and doing a COMPLETE remod from the frame up (SHE'S My Baby and We've been to hell and back a number of times). KEEP 'em coming Dude! You're the BEST!!! The biggest things I've learned here- DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU DO and the rest just comes naturally...TKS!!!
Nice work - thanks for the video - yeah maybe not for someone if time is an issue - this is where retirement kicks in - looking forward to tackle my F150 2011 super crew next year - yes, already retired 😊
Great Video! Quick question on what to do with the "inner cab corner" or "rocker reinforcement" panel. We just opened up our 2000 Silverado to find it completely rotted out. I cant find that piece on the internet any where... I see you just trimmed the rotted area away and left is as is. I'm thinking its not needed and should cut out what's rotted and move on? Thank you for the help Eric
Looks good, have you ever run in to that god offal don't know if you would call it sound deadening or panel bond when doing those cab corners. That stuff is very flammable. Chevy, Ford and Dodge the metal in those just don't last.
Yes, you need to be super careful with the foam sound deadner in the cab corners. I always dig out as much as I possibly can before welding, then keep a close eye on it 🫣
Where the cab corner overlaps the rocker just below the door jam, (small indentation) is there anything you put in there or is it just tight as you can get it and left alone and just finished paint work? Currently working on one now and realized it.
Great video! Did you get some primer/coating on the inside of the rockers? I would like to have seen how you did that.... I have a similar year GMC with the usual rocker and cab corner rust and this is a project I plan for late spring. Watching as many videos on this as I can. Yours is one of the better ones.
I have a cheap undercoating gun that I fill with used motor oil that I spray at high pressure inside the panels, so anything I can’t get primer on gets coated in oil, as well as seeping in the pinchwelds. A bit messy at first but after a couple washes it’s good. Works great inside doors, fenders, etc. Seems to work really well 👍🏼

If I’m able to retire one day, I’ll have time to fix the rust on my own truck too 😉

Yep, honestly, I’ll often just trim back the rust and put the new cab corner over it, won’t affect anything 👍🏼👍🏼
@@Johnnymidnight Perfect, that’s what I’ll do. Thank you for responding back!

What about battery backup and doze99_07 have that and how doze welding effect that
I’ve never heard of them having a battery back up, maybe that’s something in the newer vehicles?

Yep, after it’s all primed and prepped, lay a bead of flexible seam sealer in there 👍🏼
@ thank you very much, Also, thanks for responding so quickly, much appreciated. Very helpful and informative. Thanks again
Nice video bud

What welding machine did you use? / what type
It’s a Miller 135. 20 years old and has never had a problem. Great machine!
Great job thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Turned out great. Was that red car outside your shop an Isuzu? Looked pretty cool jacked up like that
Customers Suzuki X90. Really rare, super cool rig!
Where do you buy your replacement panels?
I get everything through lordco auto parts, and they get them through keystone/cross Canada, but any auto parts store will be able to get them.
HOW MUCH DOES THIS REPAIR COST ? I NEED MINE DONE.
These are usually in the $3500 -$4000 range
