This Tolomeo is a revolution! Had we been obliged to get along with somehow weak, excentric Tolomeos in the past (live and on CD), we hear now for the very first time a rival on a par with Giulio Cesare, a SERIOUS THREAT. Romina Basso literally redifines this role. Bravissima.
This is another shining example of why female singers in castrati roles always sail about the countertenors. Romina Basso sung a 2-octave range, full of difficult leaps and runs, with great feeling and technical expertise. Her dark voice has just the right touch of menace needed for this role and she is a stunning musician. We need more mezzos (Kristina Hammarstrom, another mezzo favorite of mine sings the title role here) and contraltos singing these roles (hear me, Delphine??)
Fabulosa!

Congratulations for Romina Basso for this splendid role! Hope we may have the opportunity to get a CD by her soon!

Wonderfull! Best Tolomeo ever (best recorded, at least)! Finnaly someone who seems threatning to Cesare. Could you pleeeeease upload L'empio sleale?
Просто невероятно!!! Куда уж тут контртенорам...
@Gudrun74 :-)
She's singing a seriously evil "bad guy".
She is mezzo or alto?
