Michael, your videos are SO informative and helpful and have REALLY helped me find opportunities I know I'll love and make an impact in - THANK YOU!
I have a quick question though that I'm confused about: What if you have multiple passions? For me, nearly all my ECs are around pediatric populations, but in different areas I'm passionate about (nutrition, pediatric oncology, pediatric disabilities, etc). Do I need to focus on only one thing to build a theme or would my theme be helping pediatric populations? Thank you!!

Hey krb8805! Thanks for reaching out. You are very kind, and I appreciate you taking the time to leave your two cents. I’m so happy to hear that you’re finding opportunities that you’re best equipped for. We need more people living and operating in their zones of geniuses!!
I don’t think there’s a fully right answer. Depending on where you are in your timeline (e.g. do you have < 9 months? are you an incoming freshman with 3+ years?), I would recommend making a decision on breadth (i.e. try nutrition, try onc, try disabilities) vs. depth (i.e. ok, I got 9 months, let’s double, triple down on nutrition because this opportunity really seems like I can make a dent in it over the next year). Your theme can certainly be either pediatric nutrition or just pediatric populations in general. What the theme is does’nt really matter. How DEEP you go and how extensive of an IMPACT - that’s what matters.
Hope that helps! If you have any other questions, reach out! michael@premedcatalyst.com is the best way to get a hold of us! :)
