    The A7c really breathed new life into this lens. Despite being like a decade apart, they feel made for each other. My favorite lens on the body, for sure. I often leave it on there for a few weeks at a time.

      A7C + zeiss 35 2.8 120 gram + zeiss atmospheric quality, = portable high quality camera system, although I have many heavy f1.4 prime lens, 我喜欢, I like this street shot combination.

      Mirror less camera purpose, light, portabe, still keep quality, both USA and Chinese like Zeiss brand too.

    Totally agree. I bought my first gen Sony A7 at near launch with this lens and I can fit the camera WITH lens in my jacket pocket. I mean full frame with a good quality universal lens (with great autofocus) that can fit in my jacket pocket, basically how I'd carry a point and shoot camera.

      I just bought the A7C and this lens today! I was looking for the most compact full frame system, and I hope this is it! f2.8 isn't quite as fast as I wanted but hopefully for daylight I can get decent bokeh when shooting video.

    It makes a great all day street combo with my A7C, I wanted a lightweight and portable 35mm and this really does what I want. I couldn’t imagine myself walking with a 35mm 1.4 like that 😃

    The lens is often over look and underrated but for me it is the perfect lightweight and compact lens for travel and streets photography. I wish sony and zeiss could come out with a 24mm 2.8 with the same size and design i would buy it too even if the cost is more than Tamron.

    Great lens when you need 35mm field of view on an A7 - A9, really shines as a ‘walk-around’ 50mm on the NEX - a6500. This lens pretty much lives on my a6000.

    I want sigma 16mm f1.4 for gh5 which would equal 32mm f2.8 on full frame. Do you think there is noticeable difference between 32mm and 35mm?

      32mm and 35mm are practically the same. You’d have a slightly wider view.

    If you have the 16-35mm 2.8 GM, 24-70mm 2.8 GM, and this Sony Sonnar 35mm f2.8, which one would you use for videos? and I don't mean not only on size since the 35mm would win, but image quality. just wondering how sharp it is compare the to GM

    Simply because it was bl**dy expensive. I have two of them, one from launch, one just this year second handed. I dug out the original invoice the other day by accident, I was shocked by how much I paid for the first one.
    Optically, I found this lens is quite high on CA, which is a characteristic of "old lens". It also breathes a bit during focusing.

    The Samyang 35mm has a few AF issues but those can be fixed with a firmware update (i have tested and it did fix them)... And the cost you talk about when it came to the samyang is when it's new... Compared to the cost of a pre owned sony/zeiss they might be on the same level but comparing new vs. New they are far from it... The samyang do however not have any weather sealing at all while the sony/zeiss have weather sealing on body only, not around camera mount. The samyang also has a AF motor that can be heard, this however is no problem if using external microphones when shooting video. But as a travel lens.. the samyang is better because it is slightly smaller and lighter than the sony/zeiss and does not cost as much (so if you manage to drop the lens or if it got lost for whatever reason its not that big deal).

  • @saputraadi6580
    @saputraadi6580 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about the image quality compare to samyang? It's sharp enough?
    I planned to buy a samyang 35mm f 1.4 but im after seeing zeiss products with same size..
    Im confused witch one should i buy.. 😁
    I want a sharp image quality lens..

    Thanks for your review. You clearly love the lens. Agree as a used buy if I can get sub £300 then I'm tempted. I'm just about to sell my compact 28mm f2 as it doesn't get much use nowadays.
    Size of 35mm f2.8 looks great for street use and travel. I'm still undecided between this and faster 35mm f1.8. New lens is circa twice size and weight, but difference is still not that much for everyday use and travel.
    I'm thinking that f2.8 wins for street/unobtrusive use but otherwise newer f1.8 is better?
    I'm fortunate owning two zooms with this focal length (16-35 f4 & 24-105 f4) both slower, heavier, good for travel but too intrusive for optimum street use.
    I do like primes and although selling my 28mm f2 will be retaining my other 3 primes (24 f1.4, 55 f1.8 & 85 f1.8). So a used 35mm would slot in nicely.

    • @M4ttNet
      @M4ttNet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This bigger faster 35mm tend to be a bit better on image quality. There's sacrifices to get it this small. It's mostly whether or not you'd benefit from such a small package. I can fit the Sony A7 with this lens on in my jacket pocket and it's still a solid image quality performer (great autofocus speed too, if that's important at all for you). If the size benefit didn't matter you'll probably be better off going something else IMHO, but if that compactness enables you to use a full frame camera where you might not otherwise it's pretty priceless.

  • @thatchinaboi
    @thatchinaboi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Too bad this lens is too wide to use with the Isco Ultra star. 75mm on FF is as wide as it can get. To get even wider you can add a 1.5x superscope. To get even wider you need a smaller sensor combined with a speedbooster. From my research the ultrastar can go as wide as around 22mm FF equivalent at the wide end (with m43 4:3 video camera, 50mm taken lens, speedbooster, and superscope attachment).

    • @sebsyoutubechannel4252
      @sebsyoutubechannel4252  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting, I don’t own a m43 camera so I’ve never had the chance to experiment with it, but I hope to have one at some point in the future. Something to keep in mind with anamorphics (as I’m sure you already know) is that they are basically wide angle adapters but only on the horizontal plane. So you can take the stretch factor and divide your taking lenses focal length and that will be your actual horizontal field of view. So a 75mm taking lens on full frame is 75mm on the vertical plane but 37.5mm on the horizontal plane, which I think is cool! So if the superscope is an additional 1.5x on that that would give you a 25mm horizontal fov and 50mm vertical fov.

      @sebsyoutubechannel4252  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Domingo. You can get the Sony second hand on eBay for roughly the same price as the Samyang cost new. I talk about this towards the end of the video. From other tests I’ve seen the Samyang has very similar image quality but is worse at tracking AF, lowlight AF and video AF, and the Samyang has a fairly loud autofocus motor while the Sony is silent. Hope this helps 👍

    • @A1000Truths
      @A1000Truths 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@sebsyoutubechannel4252 Yeah unfortunately, the Sony in the U.S. is still way more expense used. It's about $450-500 used while the Samyang is less. I think for the price and using it as a kit lens its a good price. Thanks for replying!

    • @sebsyoutubechannel4252
      @sebsyoutubechannel4252  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @thomasgoetze
      @thomasgoetze 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Zeiss Sony is much sharper, has better micro contrast, faster and better AF and the picture pops much more out of the frame than the Samyang. If you are on a budget, go with the Samyang. It's a good lens. If you can afford a used Zeiss Sony, better grab that.

    • @chesslover8829
      @chesslover8829 35 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      From what I have learned by watching TH-cam videos is that Samyang has quality control issues.

  • @Pharesm
    @Pharesm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    They're not the same price. Samyang is smaller and about half the price. I do like 35mm for street photography and portraits.
    But it blurs out the background in a half-assed way, when you're walking and vlogging with the camera in hand, aimed at your face.
    Sony's 20mm F1.8 has a way better depth of field, so people can actually see what's around you, even when its focused on your face ~40cm away -
    On the 35mm, that large range where its neither sharp, nor does it produce any decent Boke, the footage looks accidental like a car crash.

    You should add the 3D pop effect that the T coating creates in all Zeiss lenses.

    • @FrankyFeedler
      @FrankyFeedler หลายเดือนก่อน

      “3D pop” is caused by what the transitions between in and out of focus areas look like, along with some contrast characteristics. A coating has virtually nothing to do with that as the only function of coating is preventing reflections, i.e. flaring.

    Your feeling are nice , but facts and test are more important when we talk about lens. the Zeiss is almost three times the cost and used market it is still double the cost of the Samyang 35mm f2.8 FE AF new. I have tested both and they are close (not the same but close). to me three time the cost should not be close. I soot the Sony a7 iii and I really like the small form factor of a light weight lens in 35mm. so don.t knock the Samyang it not bad lens in both sharpnest and autofocus applications. I don't shoot videos so I can't talk about videos. try it and test it with the samyang.

    This lens is a horrendous choice for vlogging. As your demo footage perfectly demonstrated, the crop is too tight and the lack of OSS means the footage is shakey and unpleasant. Do not buy as a vlogging lens.
