I used to "make" ZZT games in the community, probably back around 2000. Learning ZZT-OOP back in the day got me curious enough to get a degree in Comp Sci and software development later on.
The ZZT community has been enjoying a minor revival of sorts for the past few years, thanks to the efforts of many oldbies, especially Dr_Dos. MegaZeux is also still maintained and receiving new features to this very day!
I made and released three ZZT games back in 2002 and 2003, one of which was a Sonic The Hedgehog fangame, strangely enough. You can still find them on some archive sites.

Oh my gosh, I saw that CD-ROM cover on the thumbnail and clicked so fast. Those particular shareware collection discs were a HUGE part of my childhood, and we had the whole set. In fact, I've still got all the discs, but they won't run on new computers. I'd love to play them again. Crystal Caves was my jam!
Guy at the start got into Wrestling MPire, I've started playing Hard Time recently. It's fascinating how I went into it thinking "I'm gonna be a good little prisoner." and yet there are certain things that when the NPCs do them, I 180 on the spot into "This man must die.". I have noticed recently, however, that it seems that when the prison gets targeted for a terrorist attack that the explosions are not capable of hitting the staircase or upper floor of the cell blocks, so you can head up there to avoid getting your foot blown off or whatever.
I managed to leave prison having lost a leg and an arm. My guy walked out like it was nothing while the credits depicted how every single one of my inmates died horrible deaths. However, he lost his leg trippin in the shower and his arm because a guard hit me once because and i quote "didn't looked as good as him" Hard time is a goode game
With me the main spurs of violence tends to be the guards saying "Pay me or I'll bring you to court on trumped up charges." and my response being "You have signed your name in the Death Note and I'm gonna be the heart attack.". Prisoners can do things that get them on the hit list too. If I were a modding man, I would consider trying to write up a Hard Time mod that just makes every character's name appear over their head if your Intelligence is 70% or higher so that it'd be easier for me to single out anyone who's in for it. Random aggression from prisoners I just flip them once and leave them, though being my cellmate and running off with my stuff (I like to keep at least a Mirror, Comb, Dumbbell, and weapon in my Cell) can also result in being beaten with a a sharp object until motion ceases. I think my favorite story so far is that at one point becoming a Warden for one of the cell blocks, I can't remember which exactly, was effectively a death sentence. The Wardens of that block just started going through a revolving door after I killed one or two of them. "Warden Jackass will be patrolling I-Forget Block". Not so very long later... "Warden Jackass has been found dead!". I wasn't even doing anything to them at that point, the one or ones I tore up did something that aggravated me and the rest just died of shock or insanity or something. And also the tragedy of limpbizkit.mp3.exe, but that's not a story to be told here.
@@mweeee It's actually Wrestling Revolution, his steam and mobile upgrade of Wrestling MPire (though it is debatable whether it's better or worse) and he's a verified creator for Switch games or whatever so you can probably expect a good amount of games from him to end on up the Switch once he figures out Unity (he switched to Unity when he started working on what you see in the switch video because literally everything he's made games on before is outdated or soon to be outdated, lol.)

ZZT was such a cool series/game creation tool. Epic made a ton of great games in the DOS era. Man... Shareware Madness always makes me want to dig through some compilation CDs again and find some forgotten favorites.
Joel, in case you're interested, the source code was lost years ago for ZZT by Tim Sweeney [Epic Games, Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal Engine, etc], but somebody just reconstructed it byte for byte in March 2020. There should be several releases in the future for modern systems running it directly and enhancements. You should really check it out for one of your future streams and make a world on it with a great program called KevEdit. You'll definitely have fun.
Seeing ZZT I immediately had to go and check if Frog Fractions 2 overworld was a tribute to this game, _and yes it was._ A bit crazy that so many (including me) will see the tribute to such a cult classic before happening upon the game itself. And programmed by Tim Sweeney, eh? I really should have looked into that man's history sooner.

ZZT, like Jazz Jackrabbit, was developed by Epic Games, in fact it was their first game I believe, made when they were still named the "Potomac Computer Company"

You can play them with DOSBox emulator nowadays on your computer and/or android phone with Magic DOSBox app on google play
